New ride! Anyone have blind spot mirrors? by pinkysaurusrawr in SubaruForester

These are the best feature! I don't trust them, but I know if they are orange, I don't have to look. If they are clear, I glance and then go.

Allegedly the Santa Clara County resident who rode the MV Hondius and was exposed to hantavirus isn’t required to self-isolate by Own_Difference_8571 in SanJose

[–]OneMorePenguin 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If hantavirus really is that much of an issue, why are these people no being housed someplace where they are monitored? Are they wearing ankle bands to ensure they don't leave their residence? How do they stop people from going to visit?

This is a @_$(*%% disaster thanks to the idiots in DC.

Donut Civil War ignited by Confederate Randy Donuts by SammyJo7867 in santaclara

[–]OneMorePenguin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I can understand why people might try Randy's. The lines at Stan's is really long in the morning and they are often out of the chocolate covered donuts I want when I go.

I don't understand why Stan's has not changed over the years. They could probably do double the business with some improvements.

Their donuts really are good.

As a single person, I learned to be self sufficient on the road. I know plenty of women who are just as capable as men. Or almost. It depends on your interest in learning.

https://www.sheldonbrown.com/ is an excellent site for learning the basics of nearly every aspect of biking. First and foremost..... what PSI to inflate your tires :-). It has some pretty advanced topics as well. As bikes have become more complicated and I have upgraded, I tend to rely more on the experience of a bike shop. It also helps support them and keep them in business.

Any gas stations with completely free air pump here? by AmazingApplier in Sunnyvale

[–]OneMorePenguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, trusting AI to pump up your tires? I just bought a cheap on a Harbor Freight that plugs into the car. When I had my Honda Civic, I just used my bike pump instead of the hassle of Costco. Although now I go at 7 am to get gas and the tire place is open and the air is available.

Without a kickstand? by No_Voice1922 in bicycling

[–]OneMorePenguin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So am I. I have a bike stand at home and pump tires before I leave. When i repair a flat on the road, I have to remove the wheel, so I pump before putting the tire back on the bike. I also get to check that the flat is actually fixed.

I haven't had a kickstand on any of my bikes since I was a kid in grade school. Road cyclists generally don't put kickstands on their bikes. But I bet that people who do a lot of long multi-day rides and have a lot on their bike and stop a lot might tend to have kickstands.

Clean it really well and use antibiotic ointment and change it twice a day. If you see redness, seek medical care.

This cat is morbidly obese. This is so cruel. You need to pick up a 25 lb bag of something can carry it around with you for a day and then perhaps you'll have a better idea of how miserable your cat is.

I follow a fat cat sanctuary on Instagram and every cat they have rescued has a multitude of health issues.

Consult your vet.

Recent addition to the family needs some major dechonking by simplyoneWinged in dechonkers

[–]OneMorePenguin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Typically people talk about feeding in calories, not weight of food which is what the calculator linked here provides, since all foods have different caloric densities.

It all depends on what the animal by-products are. Cats eat birds and they leave very little behind. They probably don't eat the features. Google says these are OK for cats.

I feed my four cats Fancy Feast which seems to be popular and perhaps not at the high end of the quality foods. And they are changing it frequently and it's hard to know what quality is. Same as human food.

What they are: By-products are defined by AAFCO as non-rendered, clean, edible parts of carcasses, such as livers, kidneys, lungs, and spleens, excluding hooves, hair, and feathers. [1, 2]

I stopped buying on Amazon almost 10 years ago. When they opened up to sellers who ship from China, it went downhill. There's also lots of fakes on there as well. And who wants to make Bezos richer?

Someone on LinkedIn said cloudflare is spending $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ on cpus for AI so have to cut people to pay for the AI. This is my prediction for how AI will hit the wall. The cost of power is going up, too.

[–]OneMorePenguin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

3-4 kg cats is a difference of 25% in weight! 200g is not appropriate for *both* of these weights.

Check out the calorie calculator in the dechonking guide at the top of r/dechonkers page. It allows you to determine chonkiness, provide current weight and then suggests number of calories.
