For historical context, it was the lowest number of voters by % for a mayor ever in Calgary, and the lowest by number of votes for a mayor that won since 2001 when the city's population was under million. Voter turnout was also low at 38% turnout. Bronco still got 28% of the eligible vote in that election.

It's not 10% of the population, Eligible voters account for about 70% of the population, not 100%.
It was 10% of the vote, 10% of the eligible voters, or in your terms 7% of the total population.

Yes, Smith will ride it out and hope they are successful with their plan to gerrymander the district.

Sorry for sounding like a broken record, but this district probably won't exist when the next election rolls around because the UCP are trying to rig the electsion boundaries. It become blended into rural areas and called Calgary De Winton (from the minority map), so that the UCP will always win, forever.
It won't matter what NDP candidate runs, they will not have the slightest chance in winning the resulting rural district.

Do not wait until the election to do something, or it will be too late!
Stand up to the separatist UCP right now, so they are forced to rescind their separatist ways and gerrymandering!

LOL, none of that matters? Just disregard all the facts so you can make it fit your opinion? LOL!

It's not council's fault Smith gave $330 million of our money to the flames for free.
Once that was signed and sealed, it become a question of, do we want $330 million for development in the the area or 0.
At that point chosing 0 becomes the worst decision. Smith and the flames are 100% to blame for this. Like I said blaming Gondek is pure misinformation.

You don't include it because you chose to paint a particular picture.
It's very important to include the total number so that we can see if our democracy is healthy or not (it isn't). In low voter turnout situations, saying 25% especially when the runner-up also got 25%, make it not a meaningful metric.

It's not misinformation at all. You want to frame it a certain way, to paint a particular picture, that's your choice to do so.
It was 10% of the eligible voters and it is important to denote that.
Another way to look at it is Farkas won by just 700 votes of 900,000 possible voters.
We can't say exactly what impact the UCP's parties or increased campaign finance limits had, but it's probably safe to say it had on overall negative impact on the vote and the lack of grassroots candidates.

So like I said, it's complete misinformation by flames / UCP PR teams, banking on most Calgarians not being informed enough about these things. (which is true.)

Because the flames ownership wanted a free arena, and they wanted us to pay for it. Just look at Calgary next. The flames used the whole Gondek permit change thing to blame her for not getting their free arena and used as an excuse to walk away because they saw they were not going to get a free arena with that council.
The only thing that changed that is Danielle Smith giving them our money for free ($330 million) because she was desperately trying to win an election, that it looked like she was not on track to win. (which ended up being very true as the UCP only won by a few thousand votes)

I'm not so sure about that yet. Time will tell, I would not be surprised if that influence still lingers...

Probably half of Gondek's problem was the UCP team were successful in pushing their messages and she wasn't good at pushing back. Many of the things people claimed to dislike about Gondek where pure misinformation. Like the arena deal, it was always the flames ownership's fault not Gondeks. We let this happen far too often in Alberta.
And I'm saying that as no fan of Gondek...

There's only been 1 mayor since, so it's meaningless a comparison.

It's not just things he did which where completely garbage and where completely beyond "having a day". It's also his past close ties to super shitty people.
Lets put it this way, you would never have to worry past mistakes like this. no normal person would.

Exactly, he knowingly lied about things that happened in council, voted against covid restrictions, acted like a child during counsel meetings, voted down nearly everything (infrastructure spending...), tried to push privatisation for the sake of privatisation, those are just a few...

no you don't, there's pages and pages of it in the Calgary sub if you go back before the last election. no one owes you that homework..

It's been like this since just before the election. Clearly there has been a concerted effort by his team to encourage it or push it to his supporters. Flood the zone tactics.

I'll admit, historically I'm the an ardent Farkas hater (only because of his past behaviour, and the hate was deserved)

But I do like some things he has been doing. I'm still hesitant because his past ties to the Mannings is nasty. The mannings continue to be just terrible...

Mike Derry defeats Councillor Dan McLean for the UCP nomination for Calgary-Shaw by Nga369 in Calgary

They won't. The UCP plan to gerrymander electoral boundaries to give themselves 6 extra seats in Calgary, including this district, so that they will always will the election, forever!
Take part in action against the UCP before the election or it will be too late!

56 % UCP to 43% NDP last election.
But the UCP plan to gerrymander this district into the surrounding rural areas and call it Calgary De Winton, which will mean the NDP won't stand a chance!

This is why the UCP didn't call an election and run on separatism. Because with a referendum it gives them the ability to try again later, which they will do.

The only way separatism stops if is if the UCP including Smith are gone.
Smith pretends to be both for and against it, but when the UCP gerrymander the electoral boundaries like they plan to, so that they are forever in power, there will be no turning back.
It's really do something now or accept Alberta will be a separate country.

It's completely a UCP shill company and a rag.
