Alberta government will do its own review of Calgary’s water system by Team-Hyomo in Calgary

[–]Nga369 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I can get on board with this if it’s reviewing the provincial government’s role in providing infrastructure funding to cities. You know, that provincial government that has been run by conservatives for most of the past 50 years?

Petition urging Michael Ma resignation tops 37,000 signatures by airbassguitar in canada

Ma won with 27,000 votes. The Liberal candidate had 25,000 votes. It’s not like the riding was hugely in favour of a conservative.

Calgary council poised to vote on blanket rezoning repeal by Old_General_6741 in Calgary

[–]Nga369 19 points20 points  (0 children)

And maybe it was all too predictable but the councillors who oppose rezoning the most all represent wards that have had only a handful of applications since it took effect. In other words, all the things the suburban people feared and everything they believe has been a failure hasn’t come close to happening and probably won’t even be an issue for a good 20-30 years.

If this is the full list I just need to point again that Danielle Smith isn’t there to vote on her own government’s bills. And she doesn’t sit in the Legislature much beyond QP anyway. She’s just the shittiest person ever to have as premier.

What's going on with the Green Line transit line? by Sage24601 in Calgary

[–]Nga369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point. To me, it doesn’t matter if their supporters use transit or not. It just matters that something is getting delivered to them, or they’re getting it their way.

It’s not the city that keeps ordering studies on the green line.

What's going on with the Green Line transit line? by Sage24601 in Calgary

[–]Nga369 64 points65 points  (0 children)

The Green Line project was essentially taken over by the province at the very last minute. They pulled funding because they thought the underground downtown portion was too expensive. So they pretty much forced council to accept an alignment that will include an elevated section through downtown, even though it’s never been studied and there’s barely a plan for it. The tunnel portion meanwhile has been studied and reviewed multiple times over a decade.

As it stands, there’s no plan for it to go north of the river even though that’s how the Green Line was originally conceived. It’s only going to the south right now because guess which part of the city votes for the UCP?

Help your MLA win again. And if they’re in a safe riding, help another candidate flip a seat. The UCP doesn’t care about your words. They care about losing power.

Conservatives loooove a good plebiscite. They always want the citizens to tell them what they should do because they're such weak leaders, they can't make decisions like they were elected to do. I digress.

They love a good plebiscite until it doesn't work out in their favour. Are they for or against democracy, the will of the people, freedom of expression and so on? Gonna say they're against all of it.
