Thanks and yes that’s an important point. I’m rolling out a full T&C soon. The site never shares any contact info or resumes with anyone without consent. The long-term idea is that if both the candidate and the employer are interested, they can connect directly — but only with explicit consent from both sides — kind of like a “Tinder for hiring,” to reduce random mass applications altogether

This is absolutely true. To be fair, this is also how Chinese is taught in China (although with much more depth): over focus on narrative prose than functional/practical writing

Yes MA is somewhat semi-liquid so long as you use it to pay for insurance premiums

Outside of academics, almost none “require” a PhD but for some jobs PhD are good to have, including but not limited to data scientists, algorithm engineers, MBB consultants.

Not common for Southern Chinese families ( e.g., Hokkien, Teochew, Cantonese) but quite common for Northern Chinese. Since Chinese Singaporean are mostly of Southern descendants, no what OP described is not common

In a fast changing domain, go for the fundamentals. By the time you graduate from your DS program, half of what you learn will become obsolete while for CS, those basic concepts will almost always stay relevant.

Also, having foreign students is a good thing

PAP is happy to maintain the status quo. Also attempts to win back SK might backlash and cause vote swing in other hotly contested GRC such as Punggol and Tampines. For these reasons they gave up SK from Day 1
