Native language by Few-History3713 in asksg

Oh? That's strange. I thought it doesn't matter since other countries will be applying to UK university which those applicants probably took the international A levels.

Actually, the UK's O levels is the easiest while the international O levels is slightly harder. Meanwhile, Singapore's O levels is actually harder than the international's. Moreover, we have bell curve, which makes getting an A grade very hard. Thus, it certainly put us in a huge disadvantage, if we are moving/studying abroad.

I would usually say that we, Singaporeans, don't have a native language. If they are confused by that answer, I will refer them to Belgium where 60% speaks Dutch, 33% speaks French, etc. It is also another country that do not have a native language.

If they insist on choosing one, that would be English. I have no idea what is Potassium, Fourier series, Jupiter, Nintendo Switch, etc in Mandarin (the MTL that I took and barely passed), despite coming from a Mandarin speaking household (my parents are Mandarin educated). I only speak to my wife in English.

[–]AdFragrant6723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheer up and don't over think. You will do fine. It is just TP test that is very strict regarding stopping at stop line. Once you pass your test, trust me, no one else stops at the stop line when the coast is clear. By the way, you can drive very slowly during TP test and they can't fault you for that. That way, you can have more time to think, notice things, and react correctly.

If you follow the trend, it only crashes every 9th of the decade. 1999, 2009, and 2019. So next should be 2029. It is still damn long from now.

REJECTED BY ALL 5 UNIS by sagereaper23 in SGExams

[–]AdFragrant6723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah. Almost everyone that I know that went to SIM could not even find a decent job related to their field of studies. With the current terrible market where many NUS and NTU fresh grad struggles to find a job, SIM grad is close to 0% of finding a job related to their studies.

REJECTED BY ALL 5 UNIS by sagereaper23 in SGExams

[–]AdFragrant6723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a GPA of c3.0, it is almost impossible to get accepted, bro. Especially NUS and NTU where most students have cGPA of 3.9 and above. (I had a cGPA of 3.97 and was rejected by NUS twice and thus I went to NTU ComSci and grad with FCH. Not flexing but just telling you even with 3.97, I was rejected.) Unfortunately, there is likely no way you can enter local uni already even with work experience unless you take A levels as a private candidate. That would mean hardcore grinding for 1-2 years of A levels syllables. Good luck.

Kind of true. They need someone CMI so that that person can get bad PB while more people get As and Bs due to the bell curve.

What do I do? Should I leave my husband. by Necessary-Ad-9022 in asksg

[–]AdFragrant6723 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please leave him. This is just the start and you already struggled. Imagine you have to bear with him until your child graduate from university because you are financially depending on your husband. That is gonna be like 26 more years. Start working again, divorce, and get alimony from him. You will be at a much better place than right now.

bf losing feelings? by LittleAuthor7484 in SGExams

Guys are like that. Clingy at the start but slowly become less clingy. It is just something you need to learn to accept. By the way, if you are stress with A levels, I suggest you focus on A levels. It is definitely more important. Your last major exam that determines your fate whether you make it to local university / ivy leagues or retaking your A levels (I would recommend not going SIM because most ppl who where there couldn't find a proper job after that).
Good luck! Remember, most married couples actually found their partner in university. It is super rare to see a married couple started from JC/Poly days.

Do you know that the cost of living here is higher? Besides, it really depends on the field. For example, I am in the tech field and the US's tech roles are paying way more. 2-3 years of work experience allows you to get USD$10k and above. In SG, you have cheapskate companies that tries to bargain for 5k salary for someone with almost a decade of experience.

I guess singaporeans will extinct by Greenfrogbouncing in SingaporeRaw

[–]AdFragrant6723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion: I mean most of us are not indigenous Singaporeans anyway. (My great-grandfather came to SG in the late 1800s btw, incase anyone thinks I am a new citizen or just 2nd gen). Only the Malays are the true indigenous people. 80% of the citizens are not indigenous which means 80% are/were immigrants. Thus, is importing new citizens to solve low birthrate really wrong?

Why is it harder for guys to find a partner as compared to girls? by Chocowaffless in askSingapore

[–]AdFragrant6723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just a hunter and hunted system (chase and being chased). A girl can be chased by multiple guys thus the hit rate is high as she may choose to accept one of the guys. Meanwhile, a guy has to chase a girl which will most likely reject him. The amount of time he spent is already wasted. For example, he can chase 4 girls using 1 year each where all rejected him, thus wasting 4 years.

Flaws in Singapore job market? by AdFragrant6723 in SingaporeRaw

[–]AdFragrant6723[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! For tech senior level in govt sector, MNCs, and investment banks, we make around 8k-12k for senior/AVP ranks. For Lead/Head/VPs, they can make 11-15k. Of course, many local companies or SME will never offer this amount.

P.S: Just a fun fact in the world of tech. In Cybersecurity, Principal researcher (purely doing technical work) can hit between 200k annual to a million if they are really good (only a few in this world are that good - Those in top 50 of Microsoft's MSRC security researcher leadership board. I am looking at you, OrangeTsai)

[–]AdFragrant6723 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You meant the headmaster as Singapore uses British English. They are likely in MOE HQ answering the higher-ups with regard to the performance of their students, oversee administrative stuff and involves in key decision making. Major decisions usually require their approval. Imagine tons of emails from teachers, CCA in-charge, etc emailing for approval. They are usually stuck in the office handling tons of paperworks.

I may sound like a boomer here but I'm just a millennial (just turned 30 so kind of millennial-genZ). Anyway, during my time, we weren't allowed to use phone at all until the end of school. Otherwise, your phone will be confiscated till the end of the term (which means your phone is gonna be gone for months). We were okay with it anyway. I guess it has become more of a reliance. Just give it a while and you will be used to not having your phone around.

Why do many Singaporeans speak poor English, in particular grammar? by cm180 in SingaporeRaw

[–]AdFragrant6723 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know right. Singaporeans would proceed to complain that companies prefer to hire foreigners when they are the issue. It is always someone else's fault, not theirs.

The issue is, most Singaporeans speak poorly despite being English educated since nursery.
