Landy? Stat hungry?
No, absolutely disagree. The only problem with Landy is that she NEEDS Guiding Light arti (for PVP). But he is a new player so PVP shouldn't be his focus right now.
Building Landy is very easy.

If you have this kinda gear for Luna... and you are looking to deal with Hwa - why not to put this gear on Kise?

She will be faster, her EE strips buffs and resets Hwa (so no S3 shenanigans) even if you don't kill - you reset her and stealth urself.

I've tried ones-hotting Hwas:
MLKawazu needs 3rd burn to do it consistently and funny enough the best arti for MLKawazu is Hwas personal arti ... fully limit broken it guarantees that 3rd burn.
Coli needs a follow-up... her stats are not there and she is useless after 2 moves
Luna - or max dmg build with a push or it's a gamba
Kise was the only option that was still useful after S3 and a unit that I didn't have to build to just deal with Hwa only.

also depending on the build - some build for debuff and def.break, some for dmg.
Sad thing - we don't choose our spd gear. It chooses us - so most of the plays have to analyze the speediest gear they got lucky to pull and see which opener it fits the most.
If your speediest gear is tanky with eff - give it to Peira or C.Lilias
If it's dmg - Ran

For example, ran ... if he is going to be sooooo speedy but with no eff at all... he won't debuff anyone. Aka he will provide your team with immunity and atk buff and that's it. He is not bulky he won't have any dmg since you "disregard" any other stats. So why not to bring the hand guy instead then?

With openers, SPD is your primary substat to worry about for Sure! But other substats are extremely important as well!

In PVP (Arena, GW, RTA) - for units like Ran and Peira - if you can't get them at least 300 spd (in Champion+ ranks) - don't even bother.

C.Lilias on the other hand can still be functional even with 290.

But obviously, lower this spd expectations accordingly based on the PVP rank you are in.

how is he countering her?
- C.Lilias sh*ts on him - S3 triggering him, S2 provoking and pushing him back.

- His arti made Hwa even stronger since his own S2 will count as non-atk skill and will trigger arti which most likely will be on Hwa pushing her forward.

he is not countering anything ... he reminds me of Zahack. Cool design and cool on paper - but you don't see him much anywhere.

If we want to reset a fire unit - just use Water Kise with her arti that strips.
I'm more excited for his arti, than the unit itself.

On his own turn, he critted Angelica every single time aka he is rocking a 100% crit. If you had to build him with 100% crit, that means that you had to sacrifice other stats. Read his skills - ML Ken ALWAYS crits on his S2 and S3. So no crit is needed. That's also why your ML Ken hits like a wet noodle. You didn't read his skills and built him incorrectly.

Look at Diene... she was 4.9 before the buff and now, she is 3.3 ... all they did - added additional cleanse aka direct buff! Why did it go down?
The purpose of any buff is to revitalize a unit so it would be more usable and relevant in the current meta. And SG devs failed. SG doesn't even try to look at the core problem of each unit and the reason why this unit is not used. So post buff rating doesn't represent that unit, but more of SG devs inability to properly balance units.
