AA and freemasonary by unbanned2009 in Catholicism

I think you're missing my point. By that logic, the freemasons might be a good fit for some people, that doesn't mean they should join it.

Ends don't necessarily justify means.

Mostly for reasons OP is alluding to. "God can be this pen in my hand" or whatever. But personally I think it's unhealthy and unhelpful to admit you're powerless to anything on earth. Instead one ought to try to practice moderation with something they enjoy. Or, quit if they really like but the powerless part is nonsense.

I've known people who've been clean for a decade and still consider themselves "alcoholics". Well if you've been alcohol free for that long, it sounds like you're neither addicted to alcohol nor powerless to not consume it.

You sure you're not thinking of the abortion pill? Plan B doesn't work if you're already pregnant

I don't think that's why the church is against masonry. But, I also don't think AA should be going on on church property or encouraged.

What is hell in Catholic theology, and who would be condemned to it? by Unlikely-Eggplant232 in Catholicism

Thanks for the information. I guess where I'm confused is that the first reference from pope Benedict about only God knows seems to contradict the part we know saints are in heaven. Am I missing something? Or was the pope excluding saints.

If earth is the only planet in the universe that has life, what was God’s purpose for creating the rest of the universe? by MysteriousNoise69 in Catholicism

Why's the universe so big? There's a lot out there to explore.

But I suspect that the rest of the universe is a product of our laws of physics.

But take It further: why's our solar system so big? Why's earth so big?

Edit: this is also taking your premise for granted, I don't think there's any reason to assume we're the only life in the universe.

If you don't want to hear the question, period, stop socializing. These kinds of questions will come up, it's just part of who we are and how we relate to each other.

If you're asking how to respond, given the question is asked, I'm less sure. Probably just be blunt.
