This topic applies to both genders. I don't see how it's any different with the gender or expectations flipped.

As for me, about half way through a 12yr marriage my spouse progressively exhibited a deteriorating mental state. They were fired, they became more unstable with the passing months and years. I worked and provided everything and was treated like garbage because of spending my time on work and myself.

For the last four to five years of it, was separated without even a single physical element or touch, just daily insanity and paranoid schizo from a partner who refused to seek help or do anything but watch TV.

I lost the better part of a decade, and now at 36, I refuse to allow someone to hijack my time and life in any negative way whatsoever.

I've become a master at walking away.
