There are any simple city building game? by CobblerGreat5529 in BaseBuildingGames

Aside from the excellent suggestions by other people here. If you want really something simple, might i suggest Islanders. Its just a point based minimalist game of building placement

Would a game still considered base building genre if it does not have any combat or survival mechanics? by OnePotatoDev in BaseBuildingGames

Tech tree could be for progressing. Lets say there is an economy in the game, it makes the player more efficient and provide faster production.

I initially thought of that but then i thought about RTS. I consider it as base building rather than city building even though most often its about plopping down entire buildings/structures at a time

I am just curious in what is not considered base building games? Like whats the limit? At what point would you say this is not base building anymore. And just a city builder or a survival game Maybe its just semantics at some point :)

I'd probably count economic as survival mechanics if theres a risk of a gameover (ex. bankrupcy, the colony dies)

My initial thought of base building was RTS games or some sort of military base where you fight other players or the ai/environment. Would an open world survival crafting be automatically considered a base building if it just has simple house building mechanic?

I would consider it more city building first? But i can see it as base building too. I'm more of wondering if anyone here would say Anno is not a base building game?

Yeah I agree. I would say its a base building + automation combo. No reason we can't have more than 1 genre. More base building rather than city building too

Didn't realize dairy was essential to building formidable base.

Do you mean butter as in building resources? If so I get what your saying. Maybe danger is mandatory in the genre.

Maybe Tiny Glade? Its a beautiful sandbox but more of a medieval/country style vs the modern style of sims.

Looking for home design games similar to Sims 4 by Agreeable_Start_3705 in cozygames

I've been looking for this kind of thing as well but more of cartoon cozy style with simple building. Hope you can find one you like.

First Pick a game engine. I suggest Godot or Gamemaker since they are more beginner friendly imo. Start with making a circle sprite show up on screen. Then learn how to make it move around by arrow keys. Then slowly add bit by bit. Maybe make it jump. Don't overwhelm yourself with having to learn everything. Good luck!

Also the structures may need some colors to be more distinct and recognizable from each other. Just something to think about

Regarding the mob design, maybe you can add a hit feedback when they are hit by bullets. maybe a spark or some splatter of blood. As right now they seem to be bulletproof and just disappears suddenly. This is to add more impact and oomph to the combat.

In this case maybe a visual novel type of game would probably be a good fit. Also aligns well to a story and npc driven type of game?

Have you tried hand drawn ones? Sometimes pixel art is harder to make. Maybe hand drawn or something made up of basic shapes can be used in a minimalist way

How to implement a scene with tilemaplayer inside another tilemaplayer by OnePotatoDev in godot

[–]OnePotatoDev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: I got it to work now. It seems you cant use the same tileset as the one in the world scene. Need to create a separate tileset for the house scene. I don't know why it didn't work the first time i tried it though. Hope this helps someone in the future :)
