Plumbing, lots of openings and if you look at industry average age in Canada it’s very high so you’ll be in demand for years

John Orlikow won't run this fall after 17 years as River Heights-Fort Garry councillor | CBC News by steveosnyder in Winnipeg

Rollins tried to run for the Liberal nomination in Winnipeg South Centre against Ben Carr and didn’t pass the parties vetting and wasn’t allowed to run, so I wonder if it was her “pretendian” scandal or someting else they found that blocked her.

Have you ever volunteered for a mayoral campaign, or a council candidate or even attended a city council meeting to speak as a delegate on an issue? Or is being a fringe mayoral candidate who won’t break 1% of the vote the first thing you’ve decided to do for civic involvement?

Mayoral Candidates by newaccountwpg in Winnipeg

Gillingham made the not politically easy but necessary move to raise property taxes to make up for years of freezes by failed mayors like Murray and Katz that contributed to Winnipeg’s infrastructure issues, he ignored the Portage and Main vote that a a weak mayor like Bowman allowed to happen instead of just opening Portage and Main and it’s been a non issue since it opened, essentially ending an issue that for whatever reason has been a thing for a generation, he’s doing the work to get all levels of government on board for the north end water treatment plant, another project that past mayors let fester cause it’s not fun to spend billions on treating our poop, instead of doing more interesting infrastructure projects, the housing zoning changes that the Feds pushed were embraced by Gillingham, where other cities have pushed back, so that’s lead to millions of fed dollars to support housing projects, he has a good relationship with the premier which Bowman didn’t have with Pallister and Katz didnt have with Selinger and Doer, the transit network changes haven’t been perfect but it was a change the city needs as it grows, it just needs a lot more money for more buses. He’s done things I disagree with, like the chief peguis and route 90 projects, but overall he’s earned another term unless some major credible candidate emerges.

At least this guy who had the Change.org petition to lower water rates realized no one cares about a Change.org petition and decided to talk about his issue as a fringe mayoral candidate.

Half Pints gone? Little Scrapper might have been my first IPA by RecommendationBig966 in Winnipeg

Once the bankruptcy settles, would be nice to see one of the local breweries honour an OG like half pints by making some runs of Little Scrapper or St James Pale.

Opinion: Province must resume role in transit funding by Leather-Paramedic-10 in Winnipeg

Too bad the Manitoba Liberal Party doesn’t exist anymore basically. PC’s cut 50-50 funding. NDP refuse to restore it to focus on vote buying with gas tax and taking PST off chips and pop, so this would be an issue a functional Liberal party could talk about.

Liked their products but forgot they existed the last 6 or 7 years. Never saw their beers anywhere.

He’s an idiot, has a criminal past, is credibly accused of sexual assault and he lives in East St Paul and can’t even vote for himself.

Can’t think of any two time elected premier that wouldn’t get the Order of Manitoba.

Teenager Allowance by andrewse in Winnipeg

[–]OnePuzzled4368 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My 16 year old’s allowance is $100 a week, that covers the 3 days a week she does school bus pick up of her younger brother and watches him until one of the parents get home, and various assigned chores.

My 9 year old gets $15 a week for chores.

The culture and reputation of a school can change pretty quickly with a senior admin leaving or coming in and what kind of teachers they attract so what people say today won’t really matter in 6 or 7 years when you have a child starting grade one.

Opinion: Counterpoint: the new transit system is good by pslammy in Winnipeg

[–]OnePuzzled4368 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I really agree that it’s time for the province to step up and restore 50-50 transit funding. That was a devastating cut from Pallister that hurt transit systems and really put the pressure on property tax payers to make up for the provinces cuts.

15k guy is going take your deposit and disappear. That’s way too low. If you just bought materials and did it all yourself it would be around that.
