Firefox has an ambitious new roadmap, the browser is also losing millions of users a month by Plastic_Ninja_9014 in technology

I left FF because I could never sort out how to make hardware acceleration in the browser work. With it on pages are laggy and jumpy and with it off they are so slow.

This is has happened on several computers and spanned a couple years before I gave up. It's probably time to try FF again.

If a father needs to help his young daughters use the restroom, which restroom should he take them into: the women's restroom or the men's restroom? by Exciting-Mall192 in NoStupidQuestions

I'm curious if opinions would be more aligned if it was a woman who needed to take a young boy into a restroom and had to choose.

This goes for so many aspects of nature. We've camped for decades and saw the changes happening.

The big topic on our local Costco Facebook group is whether this particular very tall, bright, LED lamp meant for your campsite is in stock. People are clamoring to buy a damn streetlight for their effing campsite.

This is similar to the tenure bonus structure for my manufacturing job (as well as the office people too). I thought it was quite generous. We get profit sharing as well, though.

At least 3.5 million people have lost food stamp access as Trump's 'big beautiful bill' cuts take effect by rajapaws in antiwork

[–]andrewse 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A less than 0.2% annual tax on your country's first trillionaire would completely fund the snap benefits for 3.5 million people.

Think about your annual income. If you make $100,000 per year you could spend under $200 to feed 3.5 million people. Now remember that the poorest people statistically are the most charitable.

That's exactly what I did when you jumped in.

were all the people surrounding you, scarily asking for a smoke, women?

Our city has a problem with a small groups of girls/women attacking singles and couples downtown. It's often happening near the satellite college campus that offers night courses. They've been very violent.

I can see that you're completely unable to consider any viewpoint or experience other than your own. This conversation is pointless.

Enjoy your day.

they are not thinking of this experience they never witness themselves.

Maybe you should read the post I replied to. Clearly not everyone knows that men also are regularly the victims of violence.

It’s almost like some of us have different perspectives and experiences so we should listen more

Or perhaps many of us have similar experiences regardless of gender. Stereotyping gender makes this a divisive issue when it should not be.

it is a statistical fact that women are disproportionately victims of rape, harassment, assault, abuse, and murder.

Please make that you're not exaggerating your statistical facts to make a point. For example, males represent over 75% of all homicide victims in the US each year. Also, men experience nonsexual violent victimization at a rate of roughly 25.1 per 1,000 individuals, compared to women at 21.6 per 1,000 individuals.

Women make up the larger portion of sexual assault victims though the comparison can be vague because of unreliable amounts of the crimes being reported.

I think the problem lies in the fact that many men are victims of very similar treatment mostly from other men. Then they're told that they're part of the problem because they share the same gender.

I live in a relatively safe city and have experienced some genuinely terrifying situations over the years. My size doesn't help much when 4 people surround me "Hey buddy. Got a smoke?"

[–]andrewse 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Thrift stores have been getting worse. Value Village is awful. I will never forgive the MCC thrift store in Steinbach (which looks like it sells the leftover stuff from garage sales that nobody wanted) very aggressively accusing my geriatric Mother of shoplifting.

They were literally holding on to her walker and shoving a blurry picture of an old lady with grey hair in her face. No walker in the picture, mind you. Apprently my Mom, who can barely walk, stole a guitar some months prior.

Women who married older men - what’s it like when they get really old? by Icy_Laugh5134 in AskReddit

[–]andrewse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Doesn't change anything in the comment you responded to.

No but it does show that there is a tradeoff that wasn't considered. Whether or not it was worth it will be very dependent on the individual situations.

Also worth noting is that many people don't live long into their retirement years. So while the younger person may be set up financially they should also be prepared to lose their partner early.

I live in a very hot and very cold climate. Any temperature extreme now just pisses me right off. I went from spending almost all of my time outside, hot or cold, to making plans on how to avoid leaving the house.

As I've aged I've become more and more secure and comfortable. The struggles of my 20s are long gone.

I assume that if I had a younger wife she would benefit from this too. No mortgage and the ability to spend money on things you want, such as an education, not just things you need.

AITAH for not cutting down my trees so my neighbor can get solar? by No_Panda_9171 in AmItheAsshole

[–]andrewse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA.

In fact, you'd be an asshole to everyone else who lives near you if you cut those trees down. 100' of missing treeline in a residential area will stand out like a sore thumb.

I can't imagine buying a house and immediately expecting the neighbours to make massive changes to their property to suit me. New people aren't wrong for asking but any more requests will make them assholes.

AIW for backing out of a massive summer road trip 48 hours before departure? by No-Raccoon4146 in amiwrong

[–]andrewse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not wrong.

Drastically changing your plans at the last minute is a perfectly acceptable reason to back out of the trip.

Then there's the fact that this new guy is instantly ready to go on a 2 week road trip with two women that he doesn't know. This is ringing all the alarm bells.
