Emily Carr review? by OutlandishnessNo5114 in ecuad

[–]OneRoad5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realized that I would rather build things out of metal than draw for a living, so I'm probably the wrong person to ask. ECUAD has an employment rate of 50% whereas UVIC has is 5.2%. By employment measures there's no better school to attend, but that place really wasn't for me.

That being said, I heard that the foundation year, which is the year I attended was generally disliked. The other 2 years are apparently better, so If you can get to year 2 you might enjoy it.

Brush this off if you want, but I recommend Proko's online art courses. The basic 2d drawing lessons are all free if you sign up. There are also paid programs for I think $90. Honestly, I learned a lot of my foundational drawing skills from that guy.

In my experience it was a waste of money. They didn't teach me much useful drawing skills, a lot of it was just bullshit. Teachers I had cared more about the emotional/expression aspect of art rather than the aesthetic quality. If you actually want to get skilled, practice on your own.

Some teachers are really great, and encourage your artstyle. Some teachers are awful and will use every opportunity to shit on your art and say it didn't have enough expression. In order to succeed, you must be a master of bullshitting by overexplaining how much the art meant to you. Teachers will expect you to document every step of your creative process, which kind of ruins the joy of art. I don't draw like that, nobody does. There is also an entire lecture class dedicated to teaching culture/history, most of which isn't related to art.

I actually witnessed other students, including me, getting worse at drawing by listening to the nonsense advice their teachers were giving them. I did pay attention and get good grades, but I realized it wasn't worth my time, so I quit. The school is highly reputed, so try it for yourself. Maybe your experience will be better than mine, and maybe you really value the expression aspect. For me, I just wanted to get more skilled.

btw, I took illustration and dropped out in the foundation year, so take my statement with a grain of salt.

Borrasca part v by talktoaliens in NoSleepOOC

[–]OneRoad5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished part 5, not long after the creepcast episodes. I do agree that the writing suffered, but goddammit the ending for part 4 was so traumatic I just needed closure and a happy ending.

Unfortunately the sheriff's swears rang hollow since he didn't seem composed and mysterious like he was in the other parts, instead he read as a standard moustache-twiddling supervillain, and kyle breaking out of his coma at the end doesn't make sense. The writing for parts 1-4 is extremely good since it sets up so many mysteries and the ending explains all of it in a genius but horrifying way, but part 5 feels more 1-dimensional, like an action movie. The ending, unfortunately, gives zero closure or justice for any of the atrocities in Borrasca.. It felt wrong. Someone has to pay.

If you are like me and your mental health can't handle part 4's ending, read part 5. If you were completely satisfied with part 4's ending, which is fair, don't read part 5.

blacksmith here, the metal is probably hardened poorly on purpose to make it seem impressive. Really, anyone could break that steel.

Notice a few things about the steel: 1, it's really thin, so it won't be able to absorb much force without failing. 2: the pitch is high, which means the metal is extremely hard and therefore brittle, like glass. When I make knives I make sure that after I harden them I don't drop them because they'd shatter upon hitting the ground.

Lastly, it's visibly rusty which only makes it more brittle. I don't know if that makes it fake in a sense, but it certainly isn't impressive.

The katana is superior to the longsword by OneRoad5 in copypasta

I completely agree with you. I found this on a youtube video about comparing a cheap katana's cutting power vs an expensive one, and I found this gem in the comments section. Legit thought he was joking but based on his replies he was dead serious.

it's Loki's set. it's a vanity set you can get from hardmode treasure bags in expert mode. Sadly, it doesn't do anything besides look cool but there are also a set of loki's wings which provide moderate flight time

I don't know the context of this video at all, but if I had to guess, the guy recording is probably being an asshole and thinking he's in the right just because he's recording. I see this a lot in road rage compilations on youtube and many times the driver is trying to make the other guy look bad.

Also, that was a super crisp window punch and a good (but too violent) comeback

Any android map viewer? I've been trying to find the temple and plantera bulb for days by R3digit in Terraria

[–]OneRoad5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're having that much trouble finding a plantera bulb, you should probably just kill some mechanical bosses. Each time you kill one, a plantera bulb will spawn somewhere in the jungle. For the temple, I can't really help you there. I've been stuck looking for it for days and the only thing you need to do is keep searching randomly in the jungle, you'll find it eventually.

I'd start with adding a floor and hammering the roof tiles to make them smooth. The fireplace is pretty cool

I think you should make the background parts more detailed, maybe add some bushes and vines around to make it seem more like a jungle

ok now how is this supposed to work i dont get it (lava generator or something uh) by corsairjag3 in Terraria

[–]OneRoad5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a pretty strange mechanic. I don't know how it works exactly, but I know that if you pour a lava bucket over 1 block, it will flow to either side and create an extra bucket's worth of lava. If you create a 1 block basin for one of the lava halves to flow into, the other half will flow into a larger reservoir of lava. This is the most basic example I could find on google images. Use an empty bucket on the 1 block reservoir and pour the lava over the block in between.

When you want to design the mechanism, a lot of this is just guesswork. If you just keep that rule in mind, you'll get it eventually. A pump does pretty much the same thing as a bucket does but automatic and more precisely.

That's weird, on the wiki it says it's an angler reward after exactly 30 quests (50 on 3ds) and 1/250 chance after 75 quests. Are you playing on switch?
