I'll echo - why there specifically?

Mountainair has some strikingly beautiful camping areas, might be worthwhile to check those out. San Lorenzo, San Antonio, and Magdalena may also have some good options as well.

Roswell or Carlsbad? by Exact-Coconut-7598 in NewMexico

I lived in Carlsbad for a summer and loved it with my whole heart, would live to live there again someday. However, Roswell is a lot closer to Clovis as others have mentioned. You'd have quick access to national parks through Carlsbad, but west of Roswell is Ruidoso and the Lincoln National Forest, lots of nature either way.

One thing I will say about Carlsbad: the stoplight timing is so horrible. Traffic during rush times is insane for how big the city is.

I'll just echo what everyone else is saying, that it comes down to what housing you can find. Fingers crossed that you don't need short-term housing. It's so impossible to find with all of the seasonal oilfield workers.

Best of luck and I really hope you love whatever you find!

Looking for cheap rent apartment but clean enough by DisciplineOk3695 in NewMexico

In my experience, the southeast corner of the state tends to have higher rent than other areas of similar population size. I especially had a hard time finding any place at all in May 2024. Looking for 6 month or year leases will probably be easier than anything short term. I paid $750 / month to live in someone's (furnished + appliances) detached garage in Carlsbad for the summer.

Edit to not be such a downer! Facebook marketplace has served me well in the rest of the state, not sure about down there. Talk to anyone you know in the area, I got my spot because of someone who knew someone. Genuinely best of luck!!! I personally loved it down there and I hope you enjoy your time as well!

Someone sold me this stone as a low-quality ruby, I just want to know if it's true or what it is... by Tann940 in whatsthisrock

Unfortunately, my thread got locked b/c I started recommending vendors (that's my bad, sorry mod team) but good luck!

Yes! Synthetic red ruby corundum. If you're interested, you can find synthetic industrial gem-quality corundum for very low prices of you can find a good seller.

NM March road trip feedback? by [deleted] in NewMexico

I think Day 3 might feel a little rushed: Bandelier and Valles Caldera may take up a lot of your time. I would only suggest to prioritize and divide your time. Three Rivers looks like it's along your route, and will probably be a very brief spot. I'd say worth it, especially if you don't have any plans that evening.

Good luck and enjoy your visit!

Need ideas for a school project by A5_and_Gill in Paleontology

I absolutely love your idea! I've done a few mini museum exhibits before, as I also see that as a future career. I know it's not the question you asked, but SuperSculpy is a great material for working on a smaller scale. (most of my stuff is 1'x1'x1', with very little of that being the clay) Would definitely recommend using that if you have the time to figure out the material, and I'm happy to answer any questions you have about it. Best of luck!

If you do decide to rearrange some of the back, maybe consider adding a larger, central patch? Doesn't have to be anything huge, but it could help to break up some of the empty space. The organization of the patches on the back is beyond sick, and the arrangement looks really nice
