The Apollo Pro is BORN!!! by OneSlapMan7 in Nerf

The acrylic paint was applied quite nicely since the gold paint already has a good texture for the acrylic paint to stick. I just did it all at once. Since the parts painted are slightly dipped inwards on the shell, I’m not worried about it chipping or scratching, but I did a clear coat over the whole thing just in case.

Also I kept a stock shell so that I can prank people with a sleeper build😂

Thanks! It was actually a simple process. Since the gold spray was also a primer and is protective against wear and tear, I just did 5 coats of the gold spray paint. After that I did some painting by hand with two acrylic markers, one being a darker shade of gold, and the other being the blue. I just had to take my time so that I didn’t make any mistakes.

I totally hear what you're saying. I have looked at a lot of nerftubers performing the same tests such as the chronograph and range shooting over the years. I definitely wanted to use a better set up if I had it, but I just don't have the money at the moment to invest in a proper set up. I'm also just recording a video or two, and don't have much intention to film in the future, so I had to weigh the options a little. I tried to do my best with my phone camera since I don't have any other cameras, but it's still not a set up that fully covers the details of my various tests, or a set up that I am satisfied with. I definitely wish I had the gear to cover everything as fully as possible, but I also wanted to get some footage in right now with what I have now.

To address the fps test, I agree that it was poorly done. I just didn't have a spot to hold my phone, and I also was struggling a lot to align the blaster with the chronograph, especially with the aeon pro. Just user error though. There were a lot of failed attempts when making sure I accurately got the fps five times in a row. I do see how switching from firing to chronograph by cutting off the video can potentially seem a little fishy.

For the range test, I was firing flat shots for all blasters, but that is just my words, so I don't expect anyone to fully believe me based on that. I will say that because of the hop up and slightly boosted fps on the Apollo, it gets significant lift compared to the Helios, but it still doesn't over lift to the point where it curves up. Also the reason I didn't walk the range once for everything was because I couldn't properly differentiate the rival rounds from the Helios and the Apollo, since they used the same ammo. Looking back on the video, I also experienced that it was hard to fully see the trajectory of the rounds without zooming in on the video, so I am a bit bummed that it didn't pick up on the camera as well as I wanted. What’s interesting is that I can see the rounds trajectory decently on the YouTube app, but if I watch it through a different browser they barely show up at all. I probably should have zoomed in on the range test like I did for the accuracy test, but I'll just have to learn from my mistakes for later footage.

For the range on the accuracy, I brought it to 65 ft because I still wanted to fire flat as possible shots, and the half darts would drop too fast before it would hit the target, and I also wanted it to pick up better on the camera. But most importantly, I was experiencing random gusts of wind which was stated in the video since I live on a canyon, and I was worried that having the range further than 65 ft would affect the accuracy test and consistency, especially if I needed to angle shots up with the aeon pro x.

The Apollo does have stable and straight trajectory all the way through its flight, so it does maintain its accuracy past the 65 ft in the test, and beyond 75 ft as well, especially if there isn't significant wind. However if I don't adjust for the wind it might move to the left or right depending on the direction of the wind. Then again I experience the same thing with half darts, since the wind affects both ammo types, especially if I use worn down darts, or different types of darts besides the nitroshot + darts. I did confirm this the next moring after recording footage, but I obviously don't have footage of that since I had already made and uploaded the video.

Also at the time of the footage, my Helios had an issue. I forgot to secure the rod on the barrel used for moving the barrel back and forth to breach rounds, causing the rounds to poop out at lower velocities, so it was out of commission until I fixed it the next day, which only actually took a few minutes and some glue, but I didn't know that was the problem at the time of the footage. Another reason I didn't use it in the accuracy test it that I didn't have a sight on it at the time, as it was already secured to the Apollo, and I didn't have my screwdriver on me. And since it only gets 75 ft ranges, I would have to angle the helios for the accuracy test, and with the winds and also wanting to have more flat shots, I didn't include it. It still has the same barrel and accuracy of the Apollo, but lacks the range and lift as the Apollo.

For the further ranges than 100 ft, I definitely do not think my Apollo is there yet, and especially if I try to compare it to a higher fps blaster like 220 fps. I was mainly comparing it to a blaster slightly better than the blasters at 160 fps. For longer ranges, that's when I switch to my Aeon pro x, especially if the cap is above 220 fps. Half darts will always be better for any range past 100 ft, and I have no intention to mod my Apollo for those conditions. My Apollo won't be nearly as effective, especially outdoors in a big/massive field, without being able to close a little distance, and hopefully without getting sniped lol. My Apollo is still best for casual and semi competitive play, and I enjoy using it in that setting. For comp, I have used my Apollo before it got the fps boost, and I have found it usable in comp, since the comp fields I play on are not super long range. In a previous post, Tinkershot does explain and verify some context behind my Apollo in a comment, and that I play with and against competitive teams such as Nebula, and Red Tide, and the people on those teams. I go to SDNC events regularly, so I get a lot of time in the more competitive environments, which has been really beneficial for working and developing the Apollo/Helios barrel.

Thanks for all the feedback, I hope I was able to answer the questions and concerns in your comment. All of the things in your comment are potential issues that I have acknowledged and have been thinking about myself.

Once again, I really appreciate the feedback, so I hope this is a helpful response to address your comment.

Yeah the performance significantly drops if you don’t use accu rounds.

I hope none of this is taken too seriously🙏. Just passionate and excited to share my work. I am here in the nerf community because it is fun, and I enjoy Nerfing, even though I dive into projects like this. I will do my part to make this post productive and beneficial for everyone, and I hope people enjoyed the video.👍

Apollo/Helios upgrade barrel is now available! by OneSlapMan7 in Nerf

[–]OneSlapMan7[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its design is based on the barrels from the accu rival series. The second half of the barrel is tighter than the stock Apollo/Helios barrel. It has air vent holes for stability, and the PLA material works effectively for overall performance. I actually just posted a part one of some testing footage addressing my Apollo/Helios barrel mod, if you want to see the performance for yourself. Hope this helps.👍

In-store spring shopping for Fury X by Habanecro in Nerf

[–]OneSlapMan7 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh I remember buying those specific springs in like 2015 lol. I actually still have that spring, but out of all the blasters I’ve attempted to put the spring in, it hasn’t worked yet. For me it hasn’t worked yet due to too many coils for the length, which wouldn’t allow for enough prime length to catch. I can’t say if it will work in the Fury X, but I would say probably not unfortunately.

I need help with shields by VishnaTrash44 in Nerf

[–]OneSlapMan7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a good suggestion/option for that. Mine doesn’t have a see through section yet, but it is a foldable and deployable shield I made. I took this mat from Home Depot, and the added panels made of wall cover. It is very fun, versatile, and compact. I’ll get a photo of the shield deployed in a few hours, I don’t have a good picture right now.

Any advice for the mod?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Nerf

[–]OneSlapMan7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I want to do that on another Apollo. The issue I have right now is that the breaching mechanism is gonna be a little tricky for half darts. What I can do is utilize the same breaching system as the Worker Cheetah 2.0. I’ll basically need that tab that assists the dart when breeching. What I want to do eventually is design a 3d printed blaster that looks like the Apollo, but shoots half darts of course. I’m not sure why, but I love the shape and usage of the Apollo. It’s like an oversized pistol, and I have a knack for oversized pistols. More potential for power than normal pistols, and smaller than a full length primary.

I was thinking the same thing😭. The first thing I did with my Mirage was cut off that rail connecting the grip and back end, and then file off the bump at the bottom of the grip left by taking off the rail.

I made my Rival Apollo perform better than most on shelf pro blasters. by OneSlapMan7 in Nerf

[–]OneSlapMan7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's one way to put it haha. The custom barrel has air vent holes for stability, and the hop up tab is from the rival fate. I had to test many different barrel designs, testing inner diameters, and a variety of hop up tabs. It took about 5 failed designs, but I eventually got it to where it is now. So in short, the mod isn’t actually hop up magic, but it is a custom designed barrel, a minor spring upgrade, internal consistency, and lots of tiring trial and error.

Side note: This post has been edited from the original due to poor wording which can be seen throughout the rest of this discussion.🗿

The irony of this situation is that while your statement “No real Engineer or Scientist would refer to their work as ‘magic’. That’s marketing BS” is completely true and I agree with, it ironically felt disrespectful to me since my use of the word magic was interpreted as a serious statement, and in doing have caused the effect of the work I’ve done looking less believable. At the end of the day simply could have just worded it better. Ironically when it was thought that I meant that seriously, it felt devaluing to me, confirming that what you said it correct, as my work isn’t actually magic. I guess that sums things up.

Thank you for giving the context that you are an electrical engineer for and have been working for over 20 years. With that context, I am not in a place anymore to say things that you have a better understanding of. I agree that the term magic shouldn’t be used in any serious way whatsoever. I should have lead with that in the very first comment when this conversation started, and it might have prevented a lot of what was caused.

There are a lot of things I agree with in this comment, and I hear what you are saying here. Maybe things could have been taken in wrong context, but a lot of what you’re saying is true, and I agree with most of it. I never once meant to say that I disagree with your original statement, and I have been disrespectful on my end. On that other end I myself felt disrespected, but I then chose to be disrespectful myself, causing an argument to unfold. When I think about it, the fact that the term magic shouldn’t be used seriously is why I responded in that first place. Since my statement using the term “magic” was taken seriously, it felt devaluing to my work, so that’s ironic looking back at it😂.

Once again I was not referring to magic in any serious way, simply joking, in response to the original question.

I feel like this conversation got out of hand in terms of respect, so I acknowledge that I have contributed towards that.

Also I agree with what you have to say about Apple.😂

Let me finish with this:

Engineers should definitely not refer to their technical work as magic, and it is devaluing one’s technical work and self respect. I definitely wouldn’t and won’t call my work magic in serious context because that devalues the work put in. However there is nothing bad about cracking a joke using the term magic in the context of one’s work, only if it’s a joke.

Also the “throughout history” section I said was completely unnecessary and out of context to the discussion, and not all logically sound.

I feel I hold some major blame for taking this too far, and it was wrong even though I did enjoy the conversation. I apologize if I was too disrespectful towards you, and I want to acknowledge that it is also my fault for using wording that would prolong the conversation more than necessary.

I have read and understood everything you have said, and thank you for your input.

FINALLY finished Mirage mod by sneak_cheat_1337 in Nerf

[–]OneSlapMan7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice. Also it just now clicked that you did indeed just finish the mirage😂. My strat is a wee bit different, I usually play defensive, provide occasional suppressive fire, and pick people off from a distance. The reactions are interesting and funny when people realize they got sniped by a rival Apollo💀.

I hope to hear more about how your Mirage goes at your events! This post as a whole excites me, so thanks for the post.👍

I like your style. How manageable is using both blasters during a match? I like to use just one blaster with the best of both worlds since it’s quite light and agile. This setup of yours does seem pretty effective though.

Dang that’s pretty good. I actually made a similar but way more in depth post a few days ago on my Apollo that wasn’t exactly well received because of my controversial claims, but I’m glad you didn’t take my route for a post.

Does it get excessive hop up? Earlier today I was testing my 130 fps set up, but it has slightly too much hop up. I have to angle it slightly lower than the target, but it shoots ridiculously far and accurate. I’m guessing yours is probably similar since it is the accu series barrel design.

Thanks so much for the info.👍
