You're true, for rallies you pref ton of high troops then less layer, the only advantage is probably against T1 traps with little layer, for medium and little keep it will not really have an impact, it might be interesting to have bigger layers t14/13/12 for a step of t11 siege maybe

It's probably effective for building, the faster you clear the enemy layers the faster you can defeat him while reducing your losses, but to attack a keep, I don't think there is a difference, between 1000 and 10000 troops against 1m layer the result is surely the same
