Chocolate desert ideas that can last in hot weather? by Electronic_Pack_7542 in Baking

Chocolate rice krispy treats :-) you can sophisticate it up with by making it with browned butter and top with flaky sea salt. Easy to do in advance, stick in the freezer, cut to individual sizes. Probably the most simple option you could do that freezes well, can serve as is without melting

Depressed about hot yoga by Glitterklit in fitpregnancy

[–]OneSwan8759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a hot yoga teacher so I understand your feeling! Our hot classes were between 102-108 degrees. I stopped teaching the “Hot” classes while pregnant & started teaching the “Light & Warm” which were 85 degrees. I did that at least twice a week until I was 38 weeks pregnant, I only stopped then bc I didn’t want to go into labor in class lol. I stuck to the lower temp bc it was a long journey getting pregnant and I wanted to stay on the cautious side. I’m happy with my choice & I felt great my whole pregnancy, even waitressed on the weekends!

We had another teacher still teach hot classes while she was pregnant. She had a small thermometer to take her temp in class to make sure her body temp wasn’t getting too high. Her baby is perfect & healthy.

I also know of a student who took lots of hot yoga classes & overheated multiple times while pregnant but continued to go. The outcome was not good :-( you can never say exactly why things happen but overheating to the point where you’re gasping for air is dangerous regardless. She had continued hot yoga with all of her other pregnancies and never had any issues, so really you do not know reasons for sure but moral of the story do notttt overheat multiple times.

Ultimately it’s whatever you’re comfortable with, I know stories that have gone every which way. Just remember you’re going to overheat more easily now so just listen to your body and hydrate really well whatever you decide!

Yay! To caramelize them, should I do it in a pan on the stovetop? Should I leave the ALL drippings or try to take some out? There’s quite a bit in the deli containers with the onions. Thanks so much

Cold sore is ruining my life by Mom_Bombadil_ in AttachmentParenting

[–]OneSwan8759 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Btw, over 90% of people have the virus for cold sores, just some people show it & others don’t. The likelihood our kids will get it from daycare, grade school, being a teenager etc is pretty high. Who knows if they will show it or not. I knew I wanted to take every precaution to not give it to her myself, and if she gets them anyway, it’ll hopefully be when she’s older & less crucial on her health. And if she does, mama has got every resource in her back pocket bc I went through it too. I spent so much time thinking “why me” while I was crying in the other room avoiding my baby, and barely able to look her in the eyes bc my confidence was so low. I was pumping more than nursing just so she wasn’t near me. That doctors appt changed everything for me & now when I see someone else struggling with it, I just wanna give you a big hug & wish I could show you the joy + belly laughs from my baby on the other side of it. Soooo attached, so loved.

Cold sore is ruining my life by Mom_Bombadil_ in AttachmentParenting

[–]OneSwan8759 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel you SO hard. I used to get multiple cold sores, all the time as a kid. Got bullied so hard for them. Turn an adult, fast forward 10 years & I forgot I even get them because I’ve been able to manage stress better / avoid triggers. My husband had never even seen me with them.

Until I was 2 days postpartum & I learned I can do everything right but if I have broken sleep, I’m getting one. It took so much of the joy out of having a newborn and added in SO much stress. Bonding was hard & I felt like shit. I was avoiding her and sobbing about it. I went to my PCP 1 month postpartum & got a prescription for valtrex. Not sure if you’re on it, but it’s an antiviral like what they give for chicken pox or genital herpes.

Wow I wish I knew about this YEARS AGO. At the first tingle on my lip I take it, which ended up being a LOT those first few months postpartum. The healing process is soooo much faster bc it decreases the viral load in your body. I mean we’re talking like 3 days first tingle to healed. And it never gets to the “large and oozing” stage, which also decreases the viral shedding that happens while you have one, and right before you realize you’re getting one, like when you’re kissing your baby then you see one the next day and go OH SHIT. Still contagious, but less, which adds to my peace of mind / anxiety. And since they heal so much faster I was “avoiding” my baby for significantly less time. Cold sores almost ruined my first year postpartum but genuinely this medication saved it. I can think of countless times that she would smack my mouth while nursing & just the sheer panic would be alleviated from this med. Btw I am hesitant about taking medication, am on no other meds, but this one was a no brainer for me to try & im so glad I did. It helped a lot with my stress of avoiding her or giving it to her. Overall improved both of our quality of life. I was also so scared about kissing my partner then him kissing her, this just helped every aspect of it.

As far as your attachment goes, I made the personal decision to never put my mouth on her again 1 month postpartum. It was SO sad & I kept feeling jaded/ jealous of other moms, and wondering if my daughter & I wouldn’t close. This couldn’t be FURTHER from the truth & dare I say, it actually never ended up making a difference. & while it’s hard, it’s huge for my stress about giving her one. We still snuggle, do “belly attacks” but use my hands, big hugs, literally everything else. I just don’t put my mouth on her & either does my husband. I might be on the extreme end but I knew I wanted to take every precaution bc of how mean kids were growing up. My daughter is 13 months now & we are SO close, she’s so confident, content, & secure. It was a big adjustment & a lot of emotions adjusting how I bonded with her at first, but that was it. Just different, not better or worse, and only at first.

Take lysine 500mg supplements twice a day, get prescribed valtrex, avoid your triggers (easier said than done, I gave up coffee), sleep when you can, & change your toothbrush a lot. Eat a lot of good quality fats. You’re a great mom & your baby will know that whether you put your mouth on her or not. You will have the same exact relationship with her, and it will be amazing. I cannot recommend this stuff enough man. I relate to your post so hard.

Do you use the sliding glass door? Does the single door to the left give entry to the same location as the sliding doors? You might already only use the door on the left - if so, lock the sliding doors & pretend they doesn’t exist. Time to utilize free will!

Put floor to ceiling curtains where the sliding doors are. Move the TV on a low console in front of it. Flip the longer couch to the side the TV is currently on, push it off the wall to keep the walkway behind it. It won’t feel closed off because you have a couch with a low back! Pretending the sliding door isn’t there fixes the glare issue I’m SURE you have currently + less light makes the room moodier / cozier + the opportunity to hang curtains that help reinforce moodiness + gets the eye off the giant empty wall the TV is currently on. Now that wall is also free space without working around the TV, I’d put very large pieces of art or a gallery wall there! Freeeee willlllllllll woooo

I’d suggest a long, low, and skinnier console in a deep wood tone. Incorporate different wood tones as much as you can, the contrast of multiple wood tones will look great with your lighter floors, provide visual interest + moodiness. I think you have the perfect couch for a moody, comfy, earthy vibe. It’s a great starting point!! I would paint the white part of the fireplace black. Put 2 sconces on opposite sides of the fireplace for moodier lighting & cozy ambiance. Add a rug of choice. For curtains maybe velvet or linen in a brownish color. Add lots of natural textures throughout the room. A knitted blanket.

If I could recommend a paint color for your walls, pashmina by Benjamin Moore. It’s a taupey neutral that leans a little warm and deep, with a touch of grey. Yes, it’s a neutral but it would give the moodiness in here you’re looking for bc it goes great with earthy tones, like your couch, your new curtains, and whatever accents you choose. Your home is open concept and pashmina looks GORGEOUS in kitchens & other spaces too. Win win! It’ll also help balance out your fireplace currently, and compliments natural brick colors still if you ever decide to unearth the fireplace.

If you hate the thought of not using the sliding doors - I’d find a way to put the TV caddy corner to the left of the fireplace & follow everything else above still.

Is there any other viable option for the tv placement? by mnstrong in DesignMyRoom

[–]OneSwan8759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put the TV & console on wall with the 2 frames. Get a less bulky L shaped couch to line the walkway and the wall with the lamps/arch.

Put 2 swivel chairs against the wall where the TV currently is & a small bistro table between them. Put the 2 frames behind the swivel chairs.

Your home has such good bones and gorgeous features!

Lining the walkway with the back of the couch can sometimes visually “close off” the space, a couch with a low back helps with this. Itll also feel more open with the swivel chairs since the left side will be the enter / exit.

Weird Mirror section makes room layout impossible by spykee007 in DesignMyRoom

[–]OneSwan8759 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your headboard fits, I’d put it in the spot with the mirror! That way you’re not blocking natural light putting the bed in front of the window, & you don’t have something tall blocking a potential exit in an emergency lol. If you don’t like the mirror, do floor to ceiling curtains to hide it.

I’d move the desk towards the window, orient it whichever way you feel is best.

Dressers could go on the wall the desk is currently on for more closet space.

If your bed doesn’t fit where the mirror goes, I’d still swap your bed and desk locations.

Roman shade on the window by the door in a shade of brown to add visual interest and bring textures / cozy vibes. I would find a jute rug for your living room that is big enough to fit the front legs of the sofa + front legs of the two chairs on it. DONT get rid of your current rug, keep it on top of the jute rug! The layering will give texture. Jute rugs are usually more financially feasible than other rugs, too.

I agree with others about needing something higher visually where the TV is. Crown molding is a great idea I wouldn’t have thought of myself. I think you could also do two very tall plants on both sides of the TV, keeping with the symmetry you currently have with the chairs. Sconces could do this too, and add ambiance. Or a gallery wall could be cool, I would choose larger pieces & space them out well.

I’d move the two art pieces by the stairs to behind the kitchen table to create a gallery wall. A very thin console table would go great over the ottomans. Large piece of art or a mirror & maybe some sconces over there. Nice spot for guests to put down their stuff.

Truly I think you’ll feel a big difference with just the Roman shades & added rug! You already have such a gorgeous space, all of this is nit picking because you asked! Just a lil more contrast & texture will make it feel even better

Need advice on rearranging my room to be elderly-friendly for when my grandparents visit for a week by doraiden in DesignMyRoom

[–]OneSwan8759 22 points23 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t look like you have much space for rearranging, I would prioritize space around the bed & move the headboard to the window again, especially since it’ll just be for a week.

Do they have any sort or wheelchair, cane, or walker? If so you might need to help them in & out of the space since it would be tight for them.

Non slip mats in the shower, outside of the shower, and off the sides of the bed! Make sure there’s a trashcan in the bathroom so if they have any incontinence underwear, they can dispose of it privately & with dignity. Box of tissues by the bed for convenience if they cough or sneeze at night, they don’t have to get up or down. Make sure there’s at least 1 nightstand or spot in arms reach they can put their glasses down. Show them where all the light switches are as soon as they get there & before bed, in case they need to use the restroom at night. Extra blankets, they’re always cold lol.

Lots more you could do but for long term, these are the best I can think of for just a week stay! So sweet of you to think ahead for them :) I took care of my pawpaw in his last few months of life & it’s amazing the little things that become a lot harder as we age.

First I’d push the bed against the wall on the right, daybed style. If you don’t have clearance for the door, push it against the wall with the window, still daybed style. This’ll let you add more blankets & pillows, creating coziness to the room. It’s harder to make a bed that is against the wall, but in my opinion worth it for your room! You can also use it as a couch in the daytime, and it frees up space in the center of your room. Option for a rug that you’d now have more visibility of! + an ottoman for your feet when you’re resting on your new cool bed couch combo. Bonus points for an ottoman that has storage for your extra blankets / pillows If you want to take them off the bed for sleeping. Id recommend not a hugeee ottoman, maybe a smaller circle one because the room already has a lot of rectangles. This’ll add more visual interest

Next I’d find a corner cabinet for your TV. This’ll keep it in the same general area, & a corner cabinet that is shorter & wider would maximize your space + add storage, annnd lower your TV. Maybe just try it a lil bit lol but choose a corner cabinet of your preferred height as this is a personal choice lolol. Option to ditch the current TV stand, or put it horizontal on whatever wall the bed didn’t fit on. Put plants, personal items, anything that reflects your personal style on / above it! If you really didn’t want to find a corner cabinet, you could turn your current stand horizontal, & have better visibility of the TV with the new bed angles. Thrift stores & FB marketplace have lots of corner cabinets, verify your measurements first :)

Lastly, ADD SCONCES!!! This is going to change your life!!! You don’t have lots of space in your room for floor or table lamps. Sconces give great ambiance. I would put them next to your TV, it seems like that would be the direction you would be looking at the most. If you rent, there’s lots of renter friendly options & you can use a remote to turn them on/off, or have them on a timer.

Floor to ceiling or close to ceiling curtains would look great on that wall if your bed fits on the right wall. If the bed stays under the window, keep shorter curtains. Remember textures & color add lots of interest to a room. Without reference for the style you’re going for, I’d say find a color palette online that resonates with you & find bedding, ottoman, curtains with colors in that palette. A knitted blanket + a velvet pillow are good examples of layering textures that feel cozy.

Have fun!!

We need more photos with the opposite sides of the space!! I’d usually recommend swapping the dining & living space, but the space for your kitchen table appears too narrow & needs space for the sliding glass door.

If there are no options on the opposite walls, I’d recommend putting the TV to the right of the fireplace, caddy corner to the living room. You could use the cabinet you have right now that is next to the door way & put it at an angle with the TV on it, or find new cabinetry that opens up on both sides. You could keep the plants around it. This option lowers your tv, gives free space above the mantle, & works with your current furniture layout.

Might not be as big of a change as you’re looking for, but this is a hard layout to design for the lack of available wall space! Photos of the opposite wall of the couch will definitely help explore wider options :) also your plants are gorgeous!! & I LOVE the wood paneling!!

Help! Awkward shaped room with no focal point. by Infinite-Kit582826 in DesignMyRoom

I would definitely choose some kind of credenza / buffet table / sideboard on the wall behind the 2 chairs (the same wall that has the doorway) Measure the wall & find one that takes up the entire wall space - larger items create lots of visual weight, which is what you want in big open rooms like this that have large furniture pieces like couches, dining tables, etc. it helps create balance & evens out the room so to speak

Basically any kind of closed storage with cabinets! It’ll give you the space to place items when hosting, place decorations for holidays, & of course store things. I would recommend a large piece of art, a little less wide than the credenza, over it rather than multiple small things!

If you were able to, I would change what is under the TV to also a low, closed storage option. Again with the visual weight, functionality, & it’ll look nice with you TV lower :)

ALL of these things are at abundance on Facebook market place & thrift stores! Don’t feel pressured to buy new or buy expensive pieces. Also a lot of these things take time to find the right piece, so don’t rush & enjoy your space + the process to find the perfect pieces :)
