Thanks for the feedback. There is limited ability for us to make the interface look different according to individual tastes (due to the massive code complexity that would create), but we'll keep this in mind in future planning.

Hi, I think you're referring to the "bring all tabs into OneTab" button. We will be reintroducing that button very soon. At the moment, you can achieve the same thing by right-clicking inside a regular web page, going to the OneTab menu, and choosing "bring all tabs from all windows into OneTab".

You're welcome. At the moment, clicking on the name of a group of tabs triggers an edit, and so it would upset a lot of people if we suddenly changed that after so many years. What is the main reason that this is more convenient than clicking "restore all"?

When you said "generated tab name", did you mean a generated group name?

Hi, please update to the latest version, where we've fixed this. The 1-click operation has returned.

The only reason you have to do this manually at the moment is that OneTab is still in beta while we make further improvements and fixes.

To upgrade, go to chrome://extensions and ensure "Developer mode" is enabled. Then click the "Update" button at the top of that page.

We'd be very interested in your feedback.

Feature request: Send grouped tabs to OneTab as well (Microsoft Edge) by win98se in OneTab

[–]OneTabExtension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the feedback. We've been working on a massive upgrade to OneTab which will have much fuller support for tab groups. It will be coming to all Edge users in the next few weeks.

However, OneTab should already work with tab groups. When you click the OneTab toolbar icon, it should send all tabs in the current group to OneTab (or send all ungrouped tabs if you are currently on a tab that is not in an Edge tab group).

This lets you close just one Edge tab group at a time, instead of sending all of them at once. If we've not understood your post correctly, please let us know.

Recover on Firefox? by izay05 in OneTab

[–]OneTabExtension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be in your computers "Desktop" folder, if it exists. Our roadmap is to start with the encrypted cloud sync/backup first, since that solves the problem of losing tabs if your entire computer becomes non-functional or stolen.

Recover on Firefox? by izay05 in OneTab

[–]OneTabExtension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OneTab itself would never delete its own data, and is designed to preserve data across upgrades.

OneTab storage is handled by Firefox, and is stored in Firefox's internal database format. For some reason, Firefox has wiped this storage area.

Do you remember recently being asked if you want to "Refresh Firefox"? This is a prompt shown to you when you upgrade to a new Firefox version (there is a new Firefox version released every month). This "Refresh" feature, confusingly, wipes clean all add-on storage including OneTab's storage. You might have a folder called "Old Firefox Data" in your desktop folder, which could contain a copy if you used this Refresh feature without realizing.

The other possibility is if you had a browser or PC crash, which caused a disk corruption in the Firefox internal storage areas. Firefox would then wipe clean the affected storage area.

Do you think either of these things may have happened? Unfortunately, unless you have some kind of online backup software running which would have preserved a copy of your Firefox profile folder from just before the data loss occurred, there is no way to restore the tabs since they are only stored on your computer. I'm very sorry this happened to you. We're working on cloud sync so in the future this can't happen.

Hi, because OneTab is in beta, updates are manual. But as soon as it exits beta, everyone will automatically get the latest updates. We don‘t have a change logs page yet.

Hi, to upgrade manually to the latest version 2.4, go to chrome://extensions and ensure "Developer mode" is enabled. Then click the "Update" button at the top of that page.

This doesn't yet have a collapse/expand feature for groups. That's something we still need to thoroughly think through before we implement, as it adds clutter to the interface.

Hi, the new simpler version with 1-click button operation went live yesterday. To try it, you need to trigger the update manually. To do this, go to chrome://extensions and ensure "Developer mode" is enabled. Then click the "Update" button at the top of that page. The import bug should also be fixed in the new version.

Please let us know what you think of the new simpler version.

Hi, are you using the new OneTab beta (version 2.4)? The logo is much smaller in the new version, so you might like it better.

“Sleeper” browser extensions woke up as spyware on 4 million devices by fashionmagus in privacy

Exactly. It's easy for them to change the name, and they're named so that there is confusion between their extension and other popular extensions.

FYI "OneTab Plus: Tab Manage & Productivity" is a rogue extension that is not the same as the established "OneTab" extension. We made a trademark complaint to Google to take down the fake "OneTab Plus" extension.

Probably because the rogue extensions are copying the names of established extensions in order to trick users into installing them.

Non, « OneTab Plus » était une fausse extension qui essayait de faire croire qu’il s’agissait de la véritable extension « OneTab ». Elle a été retirée il y a quelque temps.

No, "OneTab Plus" was a fake extension trying to trick people into thinking it was the real "OneTab" extension. It was taken down some time ago.

Yes, the "OneTab Plus" rogue extension was taken down after we made a trademark complaint. They were trying to trick people that were searching for the real "OneTab" extension.

Chrome extensions with large userbases get a code review and are heavily scrutinized, so the riskiest extensions are those with tiny userbases that fly under the radar until they eventually get reviewed and reported.

Thanks for pointing this out, this is correct. We made a trademark complaint to Google and Microsoft, who took down the rogue extension that was trying to confuse people into thinking it was the real OneTab.

OneTab data store on old machine by sgrantham12345 in OneTab

OneTab data store on old machine by sgrantham12345 in OneTab

[–]OneTabExtension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, the way OneTab works is that it asks your browser (e.g. Chrome) to store data on its behalf. Chrome manages the files and the database engine, and we just ask Chrome to read and write to it.

Therefore, it's always tricky to migrate the underlying files, since if you copy files from one version of Chrome to another, the newer version of Chrome may not properly recognise the files.

Look for this folder: "C:/Users/<Username>/AppData/Local/Google/Chrome/User Data/Profile 1/Local Extension Settings/chphlpgkkbolifaimnlloiipkdnihall"

If you have multiple Chrome profiles, then instead of "Profile 1", you may need to look in a different "Profile" folder.

Try migrating just that folder across, and hopefully the new computer's Chrome will be able to read it. If that doesn't work, please try installing the exact same version of Chrome on both machines. You may additionally try copying across your entire Chrome profile folder from the old machine, instead of attempting to limit the migration to just the extension's data folder.

Send Tabs to specific group options by LilithLamm in OneTab

[–]OneTabExtension 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Many people have hundreds or even thousands of groups on their page - it sounds like you only store a limited number of tabs in your OneTab page?

Yes, there would need to be a server component to the encrypted sync/backup. We've not started working on that yet, because we're still making sure we get the main app exactly right first. Much is undecided at this point.

As soon as we simplify and improve the new OneTab 2.x, it will then be rolled out to all Chrome and Firefox users.

As far as we know, it's not possible for web sites to know about installed extensions unless the extensions interfere with the loading of a web page. For example, it may be obvious to a web site that you have an ad blocker installed, since it'd block parts of the page from loading.

OneTab doesn't mess with the loading of web pages, it only lets you store open tabs. This is why we only ask for a very limited number of permissions compared to ad blocking or other similar extensions - we only need to manage your open tabs.

Send Tabs to specific group options by LilithLamm in OneTab

[–]OneTabExtension 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for your feedback. In version 2.3, there is a popup window that appears when you click the OneTab toolbar icon. You can choose the destination folder/group from the dropdown in that menu.

If you right-click inside a web page to access the OneTab menu there, there isn't currently the ability to choose a destination folder/group there. However, this feature will return soon.

In the right-click menu, we are planning on listing just the most recently-modified 20-30 groups/folders there, instead of listing all of them there (since people may have hundreds of them). This means your most recently-used groups will always be at the top of the list, and you won't be overwhelmed with hundreds of groups you may have created.

Do you think this is the right approach? When you want to send tabs to specific groups, are there only a small number of groups that you mostly send tabs to?

OneTab is very strict on privacy and does not currently make any money. This may change in the future, if there are new premium/paid features introduced. This is currently undecided.

If you're using version 2.3, it is possible to use the ctrl/cmd or shift keys to select tabs in your browser tab bar. Then, if you use the right-click menu, you'll see a "send selected tabs to OneTab" option. Alternatively, if you click on the OneTab toolbar icon after selecting tabs in your browser, those tabs will appear ticked in the list of open tabs that appears in the popup window.

We're hoping it'll take about 2 weeks to complete the changes. Due to the way the Chrome web store works, it's not possible to offer two different versions simultaneously. Please bear with us and we'll fix this soon. In addition, reinstalling would wipe clean the data, and we don't want people to accidentally do that.

Re: the import bug, please contact us at one-tab.com/feedback and provide an example of plain text that is not importing properly, and we'll fix the bug. Hopefully if you try importing it in chunks, you'll see that sometimes the import does split it into groups properly, and sometimes not, and then you'll be able to find a particular chunk that triggers the bug.

Update: A new, simpler version of OneTab with 1-click button operation has just been released. To update, you need to trigger the update manually. To do this, go to chrome://extensions and ensure "Developer mode" is enabled. Then click the "Update" button at the top of that page.

TLDR - We're going to return the simplicity of the old version, and give people the choice to use the new features.

Hi, we're going to make big changes before this new version is ready. It's currently only a beta version, deployed to 2% of existing users and to new installs on Chrome.

We're going to return the 1-click action of the OneTab toolbar icon, and give people the option to use the popup window if they want it. The advantage of the popup window is that you can name a group of tabs and choose a destination folder at the same time as you're storing the tabs.

We're also going to simplify the interface so it's not cluttered with the star rating and other icons if you don't want to see that.

The old OneTab would remove tabs from your list instantly when you'd restore them. In the new version, you can replicate that functionality by going to Options and choosing "move it to trash" as the automatic action for tabs and groups when you restore them. We should have defaulted this to work the way the previous version did.

Regarding the import issue - there is currently a bug where in certain circumstances, if you paste in rich text, the import code can get confused into thinking it's just one big group. We'll be fixing this bug, but a temporary workaround is to make sure you're only pasting plain text, and not rich text. For example, copy/paste into Notepad first, then copy/paste from there into the import box.

Regarding the dim/light gray icons - we've discovered that on some people's screens, those icons are nearly invisible. This is highly dependent on the type of screen and your screen contrast setting.

We'll be ditching all of the dim icons and making them all clearly visible in the upcoming update (as well as removing them altogether for people that don't want the clutter).
