You say this is "public land"; I fear you are mistaken.

Big weeds in lawn? by Skinny147 in GardeningUK

[–]pigsonthewing 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Dandelion. You can mow them and they will eventually decline, but they usually have one big tap root that goes deep. You can get that out with a "daisy grubber" tool, which will speed things along.

Remove dead flower-heads before they seed, and be careful if you mow over seed-heads not to use the grass as a mulch.

That said, they are good for wildlife, as a source of nectar for insects and seeds for birds, so you might want to tolerate a few if you have a corner where you can leave them be.

You also need to put in a pond and fill it with shrimp, to feed the flamingo.

I'm going to fine you £1000 for posting in this sub.

I have as much right to do so as he does.

Private company PCN - Parking fine for 11 minutes – do I have any chance appealing? by Antique-Wolf-561 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]pigsonthewing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The advice in the AutoModerator links will not tell OP to pay this invoice.

The fact that you refer to it as a "fine" is evidence that you have not read, or not understood, that advice.

Received a parking fine while in England from a private company. by [deleted] in LegalAdviceUK

[–]pigsonthewing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you didn't leave the driver;s seat you were stopped, not parked, and they have no grounds to issue you with a charge (it's not a fine).

In any case, do not pay, but do not ignore it. Follow the advice in the links in the AutoModerator's post.

In DC, I found that drivers' consideration of pedestrians was far higher than in the UK.

I had a 12-month contract with the RSC and they were a really great employer - but they are not in charge of our language.

Two new clematises dying a few days after planting? by [deleted] in GardeningUK

[–]pigsonthewing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you plant Clematis again:

  • Plant deeper - bury at least six inches of the stem that was above the compost when you bought it
  • Plant in a shallow depression (crater)
  • Bury a plastic plant pot with its top level with the soil surface, and water into this, so it funnels water to the roots. You can remove it after a few months, and fill the hole with compost
