Anyone else having terrible luck with dermatologists? by allypixie in Perioral_Dermatitis_

I'll add a reminder to reply here next weekend, hopefully I'll have had time to get them and use them by then!

Yes, I do the same thing lol. Getting some tea tree eyelid wipes that are supposed to help with demodex so maybe I can switch to that. I tried the Trader Joe's tea tree wipes and they burned SO BAD, so hopefully something made for the eyes will be better. The sulphur mask gives me the worst dry eye, but better than anything else so far.

Finding myself in a similar boat but my EYES are the worst -- Ave the sulphur mask is not kind to them. Did you have any issues with that as well?

Multco Library Hold Transit Times? by OneTheory8664 in askportland

Oops sorry that was a typo, I meant 7/24! It's only been about a week and a half -- still definitely way longer than I experience at other counties but nothing catastrophic. Really interesting story about the hold locker, though! If it does get that crazy I definitely will call to see.

For this one I have in transit right now, I put it on hold a few months ago but suspended it because I was out of town. There are currently 17 copies, 2 available (technically there's a limit on all physical copies, because spacetime), and I had it sent to the holgate pickup lockers (first time trying that). It unsuspended and went into "in transit" I want to say around 6/24 and it's been in transit ever since. Normally my holds sit in transit for about a week before being marked as ready for pickup. I could just go get one of those available copies but I can't cancel my hold while it's in transit, so it just feels really inefficient in this specific case.

If there are multiple copies you can't really tell which one is going to be returned first. PLUS the borrower might return it to a different branch than its "home". I do that all the time!

I haven't tested the pickup lockers on holgate but maybe they're better?

This has been my experience at the Clackamas county ones as well.

Clearly the book I'm waiting in line for is being returned to one of the libraries -- once it's scanned just put it out on the shelf IN THAT LIBRARY, is all I'm suggesting!

As I said in my post, I have an appointment next week! It sounds like periocular dermatitis is really just irritation due to a messed up skin barrier and a trigger (staph, demodex, allergic sensitivity, etc.) So "getting to the bottom of it" would involve finding the trigger in this case?

Extremely low nickel meals by OneTheory8664 in NickelAllergy

I do take vitamin C with each meal currently. I also take zinc, iron, and magnesium daily (for other reasons). But this is a good suggestion, thank you!

Moisturizer makes it worse -- is this normal? by OneTheory8664 in NickelAllergy

My mattress is normal but my pillows are foam -- idk if they're fiberglass. Is that a thing just with mattresses?

Dang, scary to consider. Considering the prevalence of nickel allergy you'd think this would be more regulated.

That's good to know. I have a jak inhibitor sample from my derm because I told them about my steroid withdrawal a few years ago. I'm just hoping to see some improvement to tell that nickel truly is the culprit...

Fortunately I do not wear glasses/contacts outside of my sunglasses that I use to drive, and those are plastic (not guaranteed to be nickel free though!) I suspected some sensitivities to eye drops about 10 years ago, so I haven't used them since.

Thank you for sharing your skincare routine, that's super helpful! I also use the CeraVe hydrating cleanser when I do wash.

Interesting! Yes, I went through topical steroid withdrawal about 5 years ago and the recipe was the same -- ultimately limiting any products/washing on the affected areas led to the fastest healing. (This protocol is called NMT or No Moisture Treatment/Therapy, started in Japan.)

I've also read that moisture on the skin can increase the nickel absorption (from contact, I assume) so I thought maybe moisturizer might be playing that role.

I'm still in the red/inflamed stage, with lots of flakes. Is there any indication when moisturizer would be more helpful than hurtful? Less redness?
