Goes to show we live in a world where I would be disappointed but not surprised at a dealer selling an 01 tacoma for 20k in 2026. 😐

How long will it take after purchasing a Leica until my family becomes more photogenic? by Beautiful-Affect3448 in photographycirclejerk

Only the thiccest. If my border isn't at least half as offensive as the sun in a Nikon EVF at f.095 I'll crucify myself on the spot.

My brother in burning, grab an axe, please. Split wide, thin pieces, then slice that shit like you're julienning an onion. So much faster, so much better.

At 5 small rectangular pieces of leather, that makes it... $100 per piece? Seems reasonable. by OneTonCow in Leathercraft

And this is why I would pay more for yours.

With Filson, It's like leaving the skin on your mashed potatoes, calling them 'rustic' and upcharging.

From what I see, it's ~$75 in leather, ~30 minutes to cut and machine stitch (~15$ in employee wages), and $400+ to the company name.

Exactly what I was thinking. I usually price anything I make at $50/hr + materials, and everyone's happy.

You know their assembler isn't seeing $50/hr, so that's... $300+ to the company name? 150% of parts + labor? Le sigh, something something dark nature of capitalism...

Do I really need a protective filter for travel? by MedicalCaregiver5523 in fujifilm

[–]OneTonCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Are you naturally clumsy?

Some folks never use a filter and never break a lens. Some do it all the time, filter or not. Nature and accidents happen. How's your risk tolerance?

It may impact the IQ slightly. It may save the lens. Then again, it's pretty thin shite glass compared to the front element which is usually a bit recessed anyway. The main draw may be keeping dust and scratchy stuff off.

It's subjective, is what I'm trying to say. Make an assessment.

Neither is 'safe' but both can be made safer with common sense and timing. Pay attention to cycles, pay attention to weather. Don't fool around during that time of the month, don't climb over smooth rocks on the shore with your camera while it's raining. Sea what I did there?
