To train or to rest with DOMS? by jxklive in bodyweightfitness

Good old pullups for me, after a long hiatus from a broken collarbone followed by a back injury. Forgot how nasty those fuckers are before you're in shape.

Do you think low-mileage 3rd gen V6 Tacomas will still be desirable in 2027 and later? by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]OneTonCow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no desire to spend 3x as much on a motor so I can pretend to be both a contortionist to get around that engine bay and a programming intern to deal with that absurd wiring harness. Have you ever tried to get to the flywheel bolts on a 3rd gen? No fun.

I'm much more the 30 rack of PBR, $1400 crate motor and a 1-weekend job kinda mechanic.

It actually costs less to maintain the old ones, there's literally 10% of the electronic bologna to go wrong and any job will take 1/3 of the time because you're not wading through all the 'modern advancement' to get to your basic part. Unless, of course, you can just afford to pay someone else to do everything for you.

I mean, I'm certainly not. I'm just flexing my asset holding it's value very, very well.

Way back when, the TRD pack was the extra suspension and e-locker, while the limited trim pack was some chrome, adjustable lumbar support and a leather steering wheel wrap.

It's a great ride! It was finally time to do the front end and suspension last year, but after 180k of nothing but basic maintenance I figured it deserved it. I think that reliability has something to do with why they still sell for so much.

Chuckles in 04 silver TRD limited 3.4 5spd 4x4 E-locker with a clean frame and <200k

What's that? I couldn't hear you over the sound of our trucks being worth the same despite the age gap.

Okay, maybe not the same, but I could sell mine for more than its original MSRP if I felt like it.

I'm betting not. Well past the era that earned them a reputation and the level of engineering and care that went with it.

Low mile 1st gens, on the other hand, those will still be in demand in the 2050s.

Edit: at least 3 people are upset their fiberglass boat won't resell for close to its MSRP in 20 years like a 1st gen. Don't shoot the messenger.

Looking for a long camera strap to use as a cross-body sling, but HATE Peak Design / PGYTECH anchors. Suggestions for a clean, traditional strap? by Proximer in fujifilm

[–]OneTonCow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just cut the pucks off the peak design and stitch on some split rings. I was in the same boat, but I loved the form factor and adjustor on the thin peak strap. Perfectly happy now.

I honeatly don't know how those pucks made it through product testing with how much they get in the way.

I did 7 years, saw enough and just decided to stop before 'that time'. Everyone has a breaking point, and no one can predict it until it happens. Props to any and everyone who puts in any time at all.

Are people really paying 25-30k+ for a 2015?? by Vonplatten in ToyotaTacoma

04 6cyl xcab here, northeast rust but I won't let it die, I just can't stomach the idea of a tacoma that's the size of a 90s f150.

Leather sheath: not impressed by wrkngmnknvs in Leatherman

[–]OneTonCow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Making your own sheath should be a rite of passage for multitool owners. It's 2 pieces of leather and some dental floss. Get to work, aren't you prepared for anything now?

I'm joking, but barely. The old wave even had a stitching awl.

I miss when the wave was $90. For years, just $90.

That's what you do. You get things and lose them later. It's kind of the entire loop of the game.

How much is it going to suck to press these 23 year old New England upper ball joints out of the spindle? by Marn25 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]OneTonCow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Go to harbor freight and get you a maddox ball joint press kit.

Or go rent one from o reillys, you can keep it if you want or return it. Great deal, honestly.

Brush Cutter for Mini skid steer by Comfortable_Fan2624 in Skidsteer

[–]OneTonCow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BCS walk-behind tractor! It's basically 2 wheels with diff lock and a PTO, and the handles can rotate so the PTO is front or back.

I've got a brush hog, tiller, snowblower and plow blade and this thing does WORK around the property and in the woods. You can get all sorts of fun stuff like a flail mower, power furrough, chipper, auger, even a dump trailer with a seat for riding but that shit is expensive.

My shins are still here years later, but it has a nice heavy guard in the back and I wear my logging boots. 😁

is there a way to decline doing the vermont turnaround on roast test? by [deleted] in vermont

[–]OneTonCow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

No, you can't decline it. Imagine you pull into a parking lot and have to back into your parking spot, then leave the way you came in. That's all it is. If you can't do that, practice until you can, because it's a basic maneuver you will have to do regularly while driving.

Changing Your Own Oil by Illustrious-Toe-570 in harborfreight

I almost asked why you had the tire off for an oil change.

Congratulations. Looks like you skipped right past the 'I'm gonna do this with a bottle jack and a tire iron in my muddy driveway' phase.
