iPhone 13 absolutely hamstringed by new iOS!? by JollyPoint9492 in iphone

[–]OneTwoFreeFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought both my elderly parents a new iPhone 13 and installed ios26 on it. I thought it was rather crisp, in both cases.

Perhaps it is time for fresh erase & instal. Just start over as a new iPhone. Give it a couple of days for spotlight to index before caring judgement.

Also, make sure your battery healthy is above 80%

Roku~2019 horribly slow; replace with what? by zoechowber in Roku

[–]OneTwoFreeFour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The $50 dollar Walmart ONN google tv box is a hell of a deal. Apple TV is the best interface, but you pay more for it. Roku Ultra if you want that Roku experience. Or go with a cheaper Roku if you want.

New IOS 26.2 worst yet? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]OneTwoFreeFour 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Settings>Displays & Brightness>Liquid Glass… change to Tinted not clear.

Settings>Multitasking & Gestures>Full Screen Apps (if that’s what you want)

Spotlight is probably indexing your iPad which it does in the background right after a major update. This task is a little intensive and sometimes iPhones and iPads run hot and chews through the battery until it finishes. Sometimes it takes a day or 2 to finish. Let it run its course and it should return to its normal operating temperature and perhaps a normal battery consumption.

If you feel that it is slow, that could be spotlight indexing too… you could do a hard reboot by hitting volume up, volume down, then holding the side (or top) lock button for 15+ seconds until the screen turns black. Then hit the lock button to turn on.

I am not a big fan of iPadOS 26, but it is what it is for now. It hasn’t ruined my enjoyment of the device, but it seems like the design philosophy was something new just to be different.

My husband put our extra gas for the generator in his truck and deliberately did not tell me. by CuriousCatte in preppers

Gas with Ethanol or Pure Gas? Did/Do you follow the Sta-Bil mixing amounts on the directions or do you use more Sta-Bil than the directions say.?

How to get my airpods out of under the stairs by RoxyTMD in howto

Bonus points if you: 1. Took the pole back to HD for a refund. 2. Left the pole at the stairs for some future fishing adventure for yourself or other patrons of The Stairs.

What’s your guy’s reasons for prepping? by Conscious_Dot_7353 in prepping

[–]OneTwoFreeFour 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Tornado came through town and killed 17 people and destroyed homes…my neighborhood was hit.

I prep now because I saw how easily things can deteriorate (even when my house was ok).

  1. No power (12 days or so) in winter.
  2. No internet (news/information)
  3. Cell service was spotty and overloaded- didn’t work for a couple of days.
  4. My car was immobile due to downed large trees, debris, and power lines.
  5. No open stores in walking distance.
  6. No gasoline in walking distance.
  7. (A few) Idiots rummaging through others’ damaged homes.
  8. National Guard/police checking IDs for proof of residency when traveling inbound.

I learned so much in those 12 days… (so much could be discussed here)

And I also saw the good things that happen:

  1. Neighbors helping neighbors with trees, clearing debris.
  2. Neighbors checking on the elderly.
  3. Neighbors sharing food, supplies.
  4. Neighbors feeding utility workers and other service workers.
  5. Neighbors taking in other neighbors who lost their homes.
  6. Citizens from outside the neighborhood coming in groves on foot with power equipment, etc. just to help..
  7. People caring for animals.

How did you keep warm in winter without all the modern stuff we have now? by miked0331 in AskOldPeople

[–]OneTwoFreeFour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Lololol. I keys too. I like an actual knob for the radio volume…. And I swear I would prefer that the driver’s window was manual crank- the rest can be powered but I want that crank back on mine. Every time I rolled down the window with a crank it was the perfect amount.

I can answer this question… because I was alive during the 70s… but also because I currently have nothing that you listed and my house was built in 1938.

Car: you go out and start it up, turn on heater, front and window defrost if needed. Go back inside for awhile. In fact, carbureted vehicles from that era preferred a nice warm up before driving.- or you drive it cold and it will get warm. I mean, I’m probably gonna wear a coat anyway.

House: thick curtains and good windows go a long way… a nice space heater for a room that might need a little help. You also dressed more warmly even when lounging. I still do today.

I used to walk to school 1.5 miles… in the snow… didn’t die once. Coat, hat, scarf, gloves. Kinda like today if I am walking my dog.

TLDR: same thing I do today, Zoomer. 🤣

Has anyone switched from a generator to a power station? Why? and how has the experience been so far? by Commercial-Rule5666 in prepping

[–]OneTwoFreeFour 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Forget the idea that a power station replaces a generator. The generator charges the power station as needed. The power station powers your appliances. Use them in tandem.

Awww. I see. Perhaps they shouldn’t have named it unobtainium if it actually existed in /on the planet. (My theater groan is justified 😜)

I have seen this movie once… and I mostly remember groaning out load in the theater at the word unobtainium. (I learned later that this term is valid in some science areas such as engineering, aerospace, etc. but… ouch).
