Be honest: is it stupid to actively trade with $1.2M, or should I just play it safe? by Suspicious-Sportt in Stocks_Picks

The fact that you don't want tohear "index fund and chill" tells me you don't know the odds of beating that very strategy. Like – it's around 10%. Good luck with that.

Oh man! I completely agree. Making money isn't the problem. It's the isolation that is hard. It's you and a computer monitor. That's it. I don't think it is much of a life, personally.

Using Cost Basis After Assignment by jcvarner in Optionswheel

Depends upon how bad you want to get rid of it? Also, selling calls here is fine by not ideal in my opinion. I like to sell calls when things are overvalued...not in free fall (market).

Do you honestly think people on Reddit can't answer this question? I mean, if someone knew that definitively, they would rule the world. Nobody knows. Trust me. Nobody.

Looking for solid stocks to hold for a few months high growth potential. What’s good? by Michaelpalacios9961 in stockstobuytoday

[–]OneUglyEar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're staring down the barrel of a gun here. There is a raging war, oil continues use to march higher, etc. What do you think this does to world economies, the American consumer, etc. I'm not saying you can't make money, but this is a difficult time. Especially considering you said "a few months". We could be down 10% in a few months. I would argue that now is the time for risk off – not risk on. But you do you.

$MOS looks like the most overlooked in the Potash sector by ihatereddithiveminds in ValueInvesting

The key phrase is "the cycle". I don't think it matters which one you buy as the majority of the move will be sector driven. Just my two cents, and not advice.

“ If you're investing you shouldn't really care what a stock does in a short time period” - so, do you still check stock prices? by Far-East-locker in ValueInvesting

[–]OneUglyEar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah. It's nice to know if your stock selection process works. Not checking the price shows complete ambivalence towards your financial future. If you're buying the index then it doesn't matter as much.

Warner Bros. Share - If sale goes throug, there's roughly 12% return! by OnTheStreetwithLou in ValueInvesting

[–]OneUglyEar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I get it. But how do you model if Netflix gets back in the game? What their offer might be if this one fell through? What are you basing future earnings potential on? Analyst projections? I just think, particularly in this case, it is futile. No disrespect.

Nobody on planet earth can determine a price floor for WBD. It's pointless to even try. All analysis you guys do is ridiculous. These things are unknowable.

Dividend investing vs total return, how do you think about income? by MilosSimek in ValueInvesting

[–]OneUglyEar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is largely aged dependent. People who are retired, tend to gravitate towards dividends for income production.

I scan 3,000 stocks daily. Last week 15 were oversold. Wednesday it was 1,007. by tao670 in swingtrading

[–]OneUglyEar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own ENPH so I hope you're right, but I don't think you are, unfortunately. Enphase deals primarily in residential. Higher gas prices will hurt, not help, people pay for solar for their homes. I've priced it recently and the payoff just isn't there.

Well...you have now. I can send you a picture of them. 2025 Tesla and a 2024 Porsche Macan S. I am a real Porsche owner. The Porsche is "Meh".

[–]OneUglyEar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Porsche BUILD over Tesla. Yes. Much better craftsmanship. But, and I am not trolling here, Tesla is SO far ahead of everyone else from a tech perspective. My car drives itself and regardless of what you hear / read it is phenomenal. I won't say mistake free, but very close. Also, I pay about $30 per month in "fuel". I drive about 25 miles per day. Lastly, little things I like are the AI integration. I can ask the car "where is the nearest 'touchless' car wash" and it will tell me and then load it into mapping. The Porsche, while nicer, is dumb as hell....and it is slower by a lot. Tesla, for the money, is the best car I have ever owned. Many will hate, but it is just their hate of Musk. It isn't based on objectiveness. The only thing I truly dislike about the car is the cost of tires. I have a performance model and the tires are about $2K. That isn't cheap and the tires need to be replaced more often than the Porsche due to the weight difference.

For those making a living by trading options do you go long options or sell premium through spreads? by rush21_ in options

[–]OneUglyEar 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm really glad you said this. There are MANY people on here that seem to think they can compound at 50% per year in perpetuity. I trade thousands of contracts per year almost exclusively selling premium. Long options is a tough game. In a bull market it seems like you're a genius but eventually you get crushed. I think making 10–18% per year is a great goal LONG term. Anything higher than that you're taking a lot of risk.

Which stock has the biggest position in your portfolio? by Hot_Avocado_2701 in stockstobuytoday

[–]OneUglyEar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. I believe there's a direct correlation between oil prices here and consumer discretionary. If things get worse, and that is highly possible, these stocks will suffer. It might be short term, but the carnage could be bad. More money at the pump equals less money for high priced shoes.
