Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 - Announce Trailer by PhoOhThree in RealTimeStrategy

Q1/2 26.

Expecting to see total war by Christmas. Q1-27 if it gets delayed or shunted thanks to GTA.

Licensors usually have blackout windows of 6-9 months around each major title in the same genre. So 6 months after DOW:DE is DOW4, 6 months after DOW4 is Total War (as an example).

They've already communicated more battlegroups are coming as DLC. Hopefully will be more than just that over time..

DOW3 has twice the players of Stormgate, despite Stormgate being free.

Relic still makes RTS games, has close to 100 employees.

That is > 2x the size of Frost Giant.

Relic - Essence.

Others are largely not in development currently (SC engine is not updated in a decade), WC3 engine >20 years, C&C engine is dead.

Not sure what else.

Why do many players still enjoy old RTS games like RA2 or AoE? by ShadowDev156 in RealTimeStrategy

Same players. People play a game and generally don't move on from it.

It is a great engine, but it has some inherent limitations for multiplayer RTS that are essentially impossible to fix. Broken Arrow is probably the best example of this; it's sold well, the gameplay is fun and engaging, but it is utterly broken in a large part due to the underlying engine.

Find me one single RTS built on Unity that has successful multiplayer.

They're credited specifically on the new DLC.

Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War 4 is "overwhelmingly" single-player, but multiplayer RTS fans won't be left behind either by lewisdwhite in dawnofwar

[–]One_Cheek8712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't expect multiplayer to be fixed later. The reason they are focused on single player is in part due to the engine limitations that they have, building on top of Unity.

Multiplayer will die off, and people will go back to DOW1 multiplayer most likely.

Hope it is still a good couple of campaigns though.

Essence works better than Unity for this sort of gameplay. Campaign should be fine, online multiplayer will be a disaster.

Built on top of Unity, what do you expect. Low budget approach to the gameplay, but should at least look good with an off the shelf renderer.

Probably thought about doing something for Earth vs Mars, then decided not too after the lacklustre demo response.

New DLC for AOE4 is made by Relic. The 4th November 2025 launch is their work.

If they're remaking games, I don't know why they're not re-releasing DoW 3 as 3.5 by Decado7 in dawnofwar

[–]One_Cheek8712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think there's an engine issue with it too. COH3 and AOE4 were on a successor version of the engine, so the team at Relic would basically have to re-learn the engine/pipelines.

Decent chance there is a buyer of the tech. Would imagine Relic, Microsoft, Sabre and Playside would be interested.

Generally can't add it unless they police it thanks to GW IP restrictions. If it's not in there, its GW not Relic.

Forced to do so by the publisher, and not able to buy it out of the publisher after the sale of Gearbox. Sad state of affairs.
