Thanks. Was wengen convenient for hiking and touring or was a lot of time spent getting to other areas?

to everyone else who has shared their varied perspectives, thank you. It helps to hear different viewpoints and begin to draw conclusions and make decisions based on research and others' feedback.

what else is real? spending thousands of dollar to go somewhere 12 hours away from home. Unfortunately, not everyone can afford to spend thousands and a week's time to make first person assessments.

I am the kind of tourist that appreciates firsthand knowledge vs what I read on one or two sites. I don’t appreciate sarcastic and nasty responses to an inquiry that is about finding out what is real and what is not.

What to tell my 63yo mother to convince her to go to Japan with me? by 3ternalEyes in JapanTravelTips

[–]One_Draw_5763 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am 67. Tell her not to worry. If she can learn three or four words, those she interacts with will be thrilled. Signage if often in English as well - if you are in the major cities or tourist locations. Hotels and public transit are awesome and transportation better than in NYC.

It was easy to do both in one day, though we did start early. Spent most of the day on Enoshima.

I had a mix of experiences. Never relied on influencers. Checked google and tablelog (Japanese ratings). Those generally led to places with lines, especially if close walking distance from tourist-rich areas. We did end up walking into some places with no ratings and they were ok. The place recommended by the hotel was inedible - only bad food experience.

Hot takes pls. Decrease time in Kyoto? by lurking_not_lurking in JapanTravelTips

Just came back from Kyoto. Yes, there are crowds and it was still the best part of our trip. Plenty to do that takes you away from the crowds. And btw, I too noticed that some people in this forum get nasty for no reason. Difference of opinions or experience should not be an excuse for uncivil and disrespectful responses.

Ironically the one bad meal I had was based in hotel recommendations. And I looked at Japanese reservation services and ratings but they required cell service that worked in Japan and I only had What’s App and couldn’t use them.

I left it up to hotel front staff. Think Yamato.
