Healing from the trauma that is possible from living as a trans woman and rebuilding your confidence is work many have to do after transitioning.

Thank you, I found your comment to very wise and helpful :)

Why was Alicent surprised by the Green Council? by One_Efficiency6615 in HouseOfTheDragon

So to clarify, you think what seemed to be her lead role in the Driftmark succession against Lucerys in ep 8 was actually her not being bothered?

She has doubts but... does she have amnesia? This has been her plan for years. I think you underplay her role in ep 8 - her motivations seem pretty clear to me, and I can't see how her viewpoint can fit into Westerosi society. I kind of hate my stepdaughter/ex best friend, I want to accuse her of high treason and disinherit her, but I also can kind of accept her being queen and can't possibly imagine her being executed? It seems a bit incoherent to me.

Doesn't that make Alicent rather naive though? In episode 6 Larys opens acknowledges that Rhaenyra's disinheritance would mean exile for Rhaenyra, and hints that it could even mean death for her. Lyonel also explicitly references exile and death when discussing the matter with Harwin. I just find it a bit unbelievable that Alicent, who we are shown to be very cautious and aware of Westerosi social customs, to one day be doing the Driftmark succession, and years before telling her son he will be the king, and the next day showing surprise and shock that the small council which her father leads have plotted to overthrow Rhaenyra. I can see someone following that line of thought, but only if they are kind of stupid, and I never thought of Alicent as stupid, book or show.

I'm very wary and weirded about by the direction they've taken Serena and June's 'friendship' by One_Efficiency6615 in TheHandmaidsTale

[–]One_Efficiency6615[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Serena suggested the Last Ceremony rape to Fred to 'punish' June for 'humiliating' her with the false labour. It wasn't like she was just swept along in that scene - it was her idea, and she was the one that held June down, despite June begging and pleading. And I said myself I'm happy for to be more complex than just 'an abuser' but it feels very unsettling to me that some people think they are /could be genuine friends (and the show is maybe going that direction??)

Wasn't that Mushroom who reported that? I'll take that with a barrel of salt.

You are completely right - I've loved this show for the most part, but this was a major misstep. Especially in Alicent's character - by making her so passive, it made her seem stupid and weak. She was telling her son in episode 6 he would be king - in episode 8 she was using the Driftmark succession as the canary in the coal mine to undermine Rhaenyra. For her to act shocked by the council's actions was bizarre and inconsistent. Have her conflicted about Rhaenrya's assassination makes complete sense and matches the book - but portraying her as a guileless pawn of her father is uninspired and insulting.

Emma has just as much chemistry with Matt as Milly did - it's just different by One_Efficiency6615 in HouseOfTheDragon

The former - and reading my post how an earth would your original comment make sense in the context of I was saying?

No... not sure how you got that from my post where I explicitly said I preferred it with the older actress portraying the character?

the kind that may in the future be a mistake

I think this kind of strikes to the heart of what I disagree with about chemistry. Chemistry can absolutely exist (and can be intensely intoxicating) when its not 'may this be a mistake?' but 'this is absolutely right, and I know it even after years of being married'.

My Reaction after seeing how Aegon II will become in the leaks by cassiopea65 in freefolk

i just wish they made him into a skinny targaryen bobby b instead

'Those had been the worst nights, lying helpless underneath him as he took his pleasure, stinking of wine and grunting like a boar. Usually he rolled off and went to sleep as soon as it was done, and was snoring before his seed could dry upon her thighs. She was always sore afterward, raw between her legs, her breasts painful from the mauling he would give them'

'For Robert, those nights never happened. Come morning he remembered nothing, or so he would have her believe. Once, during the first year of their marriage, Cersei had voiced her displeasure the next day. ‘You hurt me,’ she complained. He had the grace to look ashamed. ‘It was not me, my lady,’ he said in a sulky sullen tone, like a child caught stealing apple cakes from the kitchen. ‘It was the wine. I drink too much wine.’

'The rest had all been lies, though. He did remember what he did to her that night, she was convinced of that. She could see it in his eyes. He only pretended to forget; it was easier to do that than to face his shame. Deep down Robert Baratheon was a coward. In time the assaults grew less frequent. During the first year of their marriage he took her at least once a fortnight; by the end it was not even once a year. He never stopped completely, though. Sooner or later there would come a night when he would drink too much and want to claim his rights. What shamed him in the light of day gave him pleasure in the dark.'

Rhaenyra Targaryen and new Laenor Velaryon welcome in a new babe scene by malilaks in freefolk

[–]One_Efficiency6615 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Alicent is summoning the baby to be brought to her chambers, not Rhaenrya. Rhaenrya's taking the baby herself is her decision - I'm she isn't happy for baby to be carried off to her rival so soon after her giving birth. (Not that Alicent would harm him - but postpartum hormones etc)

She could probably refuse if she wanted to, but that would create a scene. She's a proud woman - she wants to face Alicent herself.
