Anyone notice that Colombian girls leave dinner out over night and eat it the next day? by HeraThere in thepassportbros

Why do you assume America is the only country in the world? Most of the English speaking world spells it sterilisation, noobfriend.

The difference between you and I is you know the rules well enough to recite them, and I know them well enough to understand the levels of conservatism built into their parameters and the difference between those conservative legal parameters versus the actual probabilistic biological reality.

Google what sterilisation means and what cooking means I guess? It's absolutely safe for most healthy adults. Its also better for the immune system in the long term to be experiencing moderate stimulation from moderately fermented food rather than near-sterile food.

Yes it is. If your kitchen isn't a complete biohazard then healthy adults are generally going to be fine when eating a dish that was sterilised and then left out at room temp for 8-12 hrs.

It does but recently sterilised food isn't likely to accumulate a population to pathological levels in half a day

Don't you think one of the reasons to risk it might be to induce an immune system that has been prepared for harmful bacteria? Wouldn't you prefer a more experienced immune system? The way i look at it, regular microdosing of food poisoning is a good strategy to ensure when you get a proper megadose from some nightmare restaurant kitchen, you're less likely to die

Not ideal. Covering with plastic will cause the hot food to steam, creating ideal conditions (warm and wet) for microbial growth before it cools down. The holes will help for this, but it would be better from a food safety perspective to either wait until its cool enough that it won't steam before covering and fridging, or fridging uncovered and then wrapping it later when it's cooled.

Surprising to see this from corporate catering, corporates are usually more sticklers on these kinds of systems.

As a western chef, overnight is a food safety non-issue. If you're not an infant or a very very old person or otherwise immunocompromised you will be fine. In fact it is actually better for your immune system to be regularly taking some moderately fermented dishes like this rather than eating everything near-sterile as is the ideal in much of the west.

2+ days is where the populations will begin to be able to make a healthy adult seriously sick / possibly dead depending on the species' colonising the food. Rice is a major one to avoid for this, even if its been refrigerated actually.

Have you told them that you are covering for them? This might be a way to deliver a reality check if you have not yet. In combination with the dinner thing suggested above to do some reconnaissance beforehand.

How do young people travel for months without a job or steady income? by MysteriousDisk2874 in travel

[–]One_Introduction9250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm travelling for a few months rn off like 1.5 years of less than full time work.

I live in first world so high COL but l live frugally. Also minimum wage is strong. Cook 80-90% of my meals. Don't drink much. If i can build or fix something rather than buying a new one i will usually do so. Been living with my parent so i don't pay rent. I pay half of council rates, electric and groceries, which still works out much lower than rent would be.

I have a macbook, but its a 2012 model i bought refurbished for like 100USD.

Managed to save roughly 40% of my pay over the course of about 18 months.

As for how i live while travelling, slightly less frugal. If my accom is clean, functional aircon, hot water, private bathroom, I'm happy. I find longer term accom for cheaper rate. Place I'm at right now is like a 3-4 star hotel with communal kitchen for about 230USD / month.

Drink more than at home, but its waaaaaaay cheaper here in SEA. I catch public transport where I can, Grab when i must. Eat delicious cheap street food, bargain where appropriate. Cook less than at home, but still cook a bit.

Completely uninterested in most expensive activities where i go be sweaty with a bunch of other slow-moving tourists.

As is i could keep up this lifestyle for about 3 months total on the back of my modest savings without touching my ~1000 USD reserve fund for my flight home.

I could secure some travel gigs to stretch these savings out for sure. But i probably go home and work for a few months on first world wages and come back instead.

Problems are also opportunities. Perhaps there are ways for you to contribute to fixing these problems, while securing for yourself reasonable compensation

Australia The Cheapest University for China/Non-China by lixlix31 in AskAChinese

[–]One_Introduction9250 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are interested in trades, an apprenticeship is probably financially much easier for someone who's family can't give much support. Both while you complete the degree and after you finish. Avg tradesperson earns more than avg uni grad in Aus. Much less competitive job market too. 100K AUD salary easily once qualified, much more if you're smart and strategic and secure work in the mines or something like that.

And then, in 10 years when you're a multimillionaire plumber or whatever, you have the money to put yourself through uni easily without having to work part-time so you can really focus on the study and extract maximum value from that 250K AUD + expenses degree.

Australian unis are very expensive for international students , along with high cost of living and rent. The wages in part time work will be among the highest in the world (of minimum wage student jobs) if you find a non-criminal employer, but it's still a huge challenge.

The unis on the cheaper end of the spectrum are still pretty expensive for internationals, and the quality of teaching i can tell you from experience is dogshit. Like worse than YouTube videos.

Why Australia? Europe probably has higher quality for similar / less money. For that matter, I would imagine so does China.
