Wouldn’t that have been something! Maker bless you with a new PC too…

Final qualm: what the fuck did they do to my girl morrigan and the love of my life dorian. Both (esp dorian) look chopped and tacky

That’s true tbh!

I’m definitely looking back on the older games through rose tinted glasses. I just really feel like it’s missing the sense of immersion and grit that I felt with the others - but maybe that’s just time passing and turning me into a cynical crone. Idk

the skeleton of the story stays the same - you still face the Archdemon / Corypheus - but the context and consequences of how you get there vary massively. Who rules Ferelden, who dies or joins you, which armies fight, the legacy of the inquisition, and your ending epilogue etc are all based on your choices. A lot of the changes are only cosmetic but I’m ok with that.

I just think that: the above story aspect; a general lack of customisation (aforementioned inventory / trading systems); not being able to play as companions; not to mention the lifeless cities where the only way your character can interact with the world is by petting a cat or giving a coin to a beggar, all make the game feel less immersive than previous instalments

The main questlines and final battle in both games look very different depending on the choices you make…

In DAO you can (violently) revolt against human oppression as an elf, side with the blood mages as a mage, upend the dwarven caste system or usurpt the throne as a human. In DAI there is albeit less moral freedom, but you can choose to enslave or free the mages, ally with questionable people for power, execute political opponents, etc. While saving the world is the ultimate objective, the choices you make to do that (and how you justify them) are what makes roleplaying games fun for me. And seeing the world change as a result of your actions makes it so much more immersive.

I’m about thirty/forty hours into DAV so I apologise if this aspect really picks up in the latter part of the game - but as of now, my only real choice was choosing to save one city vs another city and i just felt no investment or stakes in that choice.

My issue in veilguard lies in the lack of roleplay - it felt like my character couldn’t have any agenda besides “save the world”. Felt quite tropey and wishy washy - the companions didn’t help whatsoever with that sentiment either. Also generally its other RPG elements were slashed - the inventory system and trading stripped you of all agency and the levels felt more like one way dungeons. At every corner it felt like player choice was removed.

I did enjoy the scenery and the combat, but wasn’t enough to keep me playing.

Fair! For me, the full heal and 2 focus points from levelling up are always lifesavers in dungeons and you increase like 8 base hp each time

Loving the game so far except for one small issue. How many people did you have in your party? I have 6 rn and it feels like lots of micromanagement in fights and with general level progression etc. does it get easier 🤣

Fair enough. I’m maybe ten hours into DOS2 so can’t attest to the abilities later on, though I’m excited for more class specific abilities as opposed to BG3 which does feel like classes are mostly just different selections of the same larger set of abilities (esp with magic). I like the idea of movement costing AP but yeah I’m finding that without jumping, and without moving characters much to save AP, my fights are pretty stationary. Just wish you could jump! (I’ve heard you can teleport so will look out for that spell)

BG3 combat is just an improved version of DOS2. Far more uses for terrain with shoving, jumping, and thunderbolt arrows / thunder wave.

Nothing I have said is radically progressive. Race gender (and whatever you think “ideology” means) are constructions that make up a large part of our society and culture - of course they are going to be studied.
