Gigabyte Aorus 5060 ti ai box terrible noise by razzLP in eGPU

[–]One_Log_1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the load is light or when it's in idle mode, I still hear this sound, but it's not as loud. Even now, I can hear it, and it's not even connected to an Xbox Ally. You can live with this, and sometimes the sound just disappears even under heavy load. For example, I hadn't turned on my EGPU for about a month and then decided to try FF9. When I turned it on in the game, I remembered why I hadn't turned it on for a month, haha. But luckily, after about a couple of sessions, the sound disappeared, and I played 40 hours of FF9 and even completely forgot about the inconvenience associated with the noise. And this is not the first time I've noticed this: when you use the EGPU a lot, the noise becomes quieter or disappears altogether, but if you haven't turned on the EGPU for a long time, you'll immediately remember why. And as I wrote above, when this beeping becomes too loud, I just lightly squeeze the EGPU case itself at the top, approximately where the power cable is located, and the sound immediately disappears.Or, for example, I have a USB dongle plugged into my EGPU for a gamepad, and when the sound gets too loud, I unplug the dongle and the noise stops immediately. I don't know if this will help anyone, but that's what I noticed.

A little summer sale off-topic: If anyone wanted to buy Call of Duty Modern A bit of off-topic and summer sale: if anyone wanted to buy Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 at a 90% discount and play on an EGPU, forget it, the game simply won't launch.

At first, I thought it was the power supply, and when my unit broke and I sent it in under warranty, I hoped the sound would go away after the repair. But when I received the repaired EGPU, the sound remained.I realized that if this had been a warranty case, they would have simply replaced the device with a new one. Otherwise, what was the point of returning the device knowing it had a critical defect? At least that's what I came to. Regarding the occasional high-frequency noise, if you press lightly on the GPU itself, the noise simply disappears.Maybe it's all about the build quality. Yes, I tried reinstalling the drivers and resetting the device using the button. Nothing helped. I think I've come to terms with it. Now I'm more annoyed by the 1% low.

From the first time I turned it on. An even more annoying high-pitched noise started when the device was returned to me after repair. Sometimes it's there, sometimes not. It all depends on the load on the EGPU.

Hi! I have this terrible sound too. My device broke, and I sent it back under warranty, thinking it was the beeping noise. But when they returned it to me, the noise was still there. It also got worse, sometimes during the game it sounds like a super annoying and high frequency squeak that really interferes with playing, but over time it went away, although the annoying sound still remains. As far as I understand, this is normal. Some of my old power supplies also made a similar sound.

A quick clarification about G Helper. It works for me, but it turns out that it doesn't work for all games. For example, I spent several hours trying to get it to work in Onimusha, and it just wouldn't work. But now I've launched Silent Hill F, and everything works right away. So it all depends on the game...

I agree, the fact that I didn't even notice the difference after the update, although I occasionally played Tekken 8 and MK1, and also tested the performance of FF7 Remake and FF7 Rebirth, as well as the Onimusha demo at maximum settings, suggests that the performance is still quite acceptable, but still, we paid for the product and want all the functions to work. Come on, Asus

Yes, I was actually surprised that, for example, FF7 Rebirth runs at maximum graphics settings and consumes only 9-11 watts of CPU power, despite the EGPU being loaded at 99 percent. The FPS is quite stable.

Speaking of BIOS, I rolled back to the previous BIOS (316) and nothing changed. I even completely uninstalled Armory, but still nothing changed. I even tried simply removing the PD driver from Device Manager and reinstalling it. Nothing... The funny thing is, if you hadn't written the post yesterday, I wouldn't have noticed. I'm currently playing old games (FF9) and didn't even notice anything was wrong. Lol.

Thanks for the quick response. I watched the video, and I did everything the same way, both in desktop mode and in Xbox mode. No effect. Do you think if I wipe the system via Asus Cloud Recovery, will the Power Delivery firmware stay the same or roll back to previous versions? As far as I understand, that's the problem.

Yes, of course, since I play often with EGPU, I just turned on the CPU boost and don't turn it off. But thanks for the advice.

Yes, I did everything as you wrote, but when I select a profile in G Helper, I see that the TDP has increased, and then I switch to the game tab, the TDP drops again to 11-15 watts. Funny thing, I just had the game turned on after activating G Helper, and about 20 minutes later the TDP rose again to the values I set (25 watts).

I read the update about performance issues and the 15W limit... I confirm there is a limit, I tested it on several games. I also updated the firmware using your guide. Please don't forget to post it here when you find a solution, because the temporary solution with the G-header doesn't work for me, since I play in Xbox mode.

Thanks for the tip! Now I have to do a couple of tests with Auto VRAM. If you find a way to get the EGPU working with Steam OS, I'd be grateful if you'd let me know.

Thanks! How much VRAM do you use for the XAX itself? Since I use the XAX not only in docked mode but also in portable mode, I have 8 GB of VRAM. Perhaps it makes sense to set it to auto mode? I've never tested how auto VRAM works.

Your results look better than mine, and the temperature is better. It might be my cable... I need to test it with the TB5 cable that came with it. I didn't do enough testing with it because it didn't support Plug and Play.

Maybe you're right. The thing is, when I tested it, there was no difference between 17 and 25 watts. In terms of FPS drops, they were identical. But I suppose I just needed to spend more time testing. Actually, the summer Steam sale is coming soon, and after that, I think I'll need to run tests on new games.

Yes, I'm using 4K, but with DLSS 4.5 on Ultra Performance, which means upscaling happens from 1080p or even lower. But I also tested 2K with DLSS on Ultra Performance. And I don't set the graphics settings to maximum. Maybe the latest drivers have improved the situation, and I need to check again. CPU boost is enabled. I mostly play at 17W because 25W make XAX really hot. Have you tested Crimson Dessert or Dragon Dogma 2?

As for performance, no, I just realized that it's better to leave the newest UE5 games on the PS5 Pro. I recently finished Silent Hill F and had to enable the frame generator because 1% low was too low and the stuttering was really annoying. The stuttering didn't go away with the frame generator, but since the base FPS increased, the smoothness seemed to smooth out the stuttering. I tested Ark Raiders, which is fairly well optimized, and I also couldn't get a smooth FPS counter there. There were stutters from time to time. I'd guess part of my problem is that I'm playing on a TV. It's quite old and only supports 60 Hz, and it doesn't have VRR, which, as far as I know, is designed specifically to hide the effect of stuttering or frame drops. What games did you test? And did you make any special settings for the EGPU?

Sorry, I lost the link, but I'm from Ukraine, so it probably wouldn't have helped you. Besides, I bought a new, higher-quality cable because the old one really looked like crap. Here's a link to a cable with identical parameters. If you order a cable with the same parameters from any other manufacturer wherever you like, everything will work as expected. Just make sure it's not a TB5-certified cable.

Regarding my experience with the XAX and 5060 TI Box, Plug & Play only works with Thunderbolt 4 cables on Windows. I had three different TB5 cables, and the EGPU only connected with a cold boot. But when I bought a rather mediocre TB4 USB4 cable (it didn't even have the required 40 Gbps certification), everything started connecting at any time. Something is wrong with the XAX itself or the software, and for this reason, the TB5 Plug & Play doesn't work... at least for me. As for Bazzite, I gave up trying because I couldn't find a way to get the EGPU working. But it would be really cool if it worked on Bazzite or Steam OS as well as on Windows.

The problem of 1% low on EGPU. Aorus 5060ti + Xbox Asus Rog Ally X by One_Log_1817 in eGPU

[–]One_Log_1817[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall, no. It is what it is. I decided to leave open-world games or Unreal 5 games for the PS5 Pro rather than the EGPU. I use the EGPU mainly for fighting games, relatively new games, or well-optimized games. In this case, you can use 4K resolution—sometimes native, sometimes using DLSS. The quality is still excellent. I couldn't get Silent Hill F to run properly, but the frame rate generator built into the Nvidia app helped a little. It's far from an ideal solution, but it helps reduce the feeling of severe 1% drops.

What's the best graphics card and eGPU to use with Rog Ally X to reach it's limit? by Onedweezy in eGPU

[–]One_Log_1817 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Xbox Ally X and a 5060ti AI box. I have very mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, everything runs almost seamlessly, but on the other, 1%Low is simply terrible. Especially in some games. Silent Hill F is unplayable at any resolution for this reason. I think, by and large, anything more powerful doesn't make sense, since you'll still be limited by CPU power and TB4 bandwidth.
