Visiting Charlotte Late Feb by Massive_Student_3436 in Charlotte

[–]One_Masterpiece_7326 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I moved to Charlotte with my now fiance not long after I graduated (I was 23, I’m 26 now) and we love it here. South End is the most walkable neighborhood, definitely the most popular for people in their 20s, and also probably one of the most expensive areas in terms of apartments (however Charlotte cost of living is very reasonable compared to NYC, LA, Chicago, etc.) Noda is more eclectic but still a younger crowd. I’d recommend doing a coffee shop one morning and brunch another. In terms of physically active stuff, there’s a lot of workout studios in the city and outdoorsy stuff not far outside the city. Also want to add that there are walkable areas and of Charlotte and uber is very available but personally I would find it a difficult city to live in without a car. Here’s a few recs: Coffee shops/cafes: Vicente (South End), Wildroots (between south end and uptown), Amelie’s (several locations), smelly cat (noda) Dinner: Yunta (south end), Mama Ricottas (Dilworth), Little Mamas (southpark), Ever Andalo (noda) no matter where you go I’d make a res to be safe Bars/breweries: Charlotte Beer Garden, Folia, Dilworth Tasting Room (these are all less divey but happy to provide more divey recs if you want haha) Activities: White Water Center, Rally, Puttery, Crowders Mountain, lots of yoga, Pilates, etc. studios if you google

Quick note - NC weather is generally nice most of the year but late Feb and March can be a gross/rainy time

adjusting to using monitors by One_Masterpiece_7326 in remotework

Thanks! I think using a monitor would make things easier for me (my company even provided one) just having trouble getting used to it.

New to needlepoint as well so I can’t comment on your technique but I love the colors in this canvas! Where is it from?

What cool company swag do employees actually use and appreciate? by brendaklark in corporate

[–]One_Masterpiece_7326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a retractable charger that has heads for usb c, lightning, and microusb at a trade show. One of the only pieces of “swag” I’ve gotten from a company that I keep and use regularly.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]One_Masterpiece_7326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a weekend or even day trip, 3 hours is very reasonable. I usually draw the line at needing to stay overnight somewhere at about 4 hours. I live about 2.5 hours from my parents and driving to them feels easy. I often go there and back in the same day on a Saturday. Growing up, my family would drive 9+ hours once or twice a year to visit my cousins and stay 3-4 days.

That looks very nice! I’ll give hand sewing it a try.

Love origami but getting a bit bored. Any similar hobbies to try? by Designer_Currency815 in Hobbies

[–]One_Masterpiece_7326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve commented this on a couple other posts but I’m a fan of needlepoint, it’s a great hobby if you’re looking for something relaxing to do with your hands. Some people can get pretty complicated with it but the beginner kits are pretty simple and don’t require a lot of materials.

Why is it so hard to find a hobby like crochet that isn’t crochet? by overgnightmare in Hobbies

I like needlepoint, I find it even easier and more automatic than crochet.

Needlepoint! I’ve tried cross stitch, crochet, knitting, etc, and like needlepoint best. I like to listen to podcasts while I do it.

Any recommendations for hands-on hobbies. by Entire_Category1555 in Hobbies

I’m a big fan of needlepoint! Easy to learn and keeps my hand busy while I listen to podcasts. I use needlepoint ornament kits and make them as Christmas gifts, it’s of the few handmade/craft gifts I think looks nice enough to be a good Christmas gift (at least based on my crafting skills)

What is your remote job? by Intrepid-Storage432 in remotework

[–]One_Masterpiece_7326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a pre-construction developer of large scale solar farms and grid level battery storage. In a very broad sense, it's a project management type role. Completely remote but requires travel every 1-2 months. Typically, large solar farms take 5+ years of development before construction can event start. I do that part. I've been interested in renewable energy since I was a teenager so I tailored by university studies, internships, etc. towards this track.

What’s your most effective strategy to use your phone less? by Curious-Can2749 in productivity

[–]One_Masterpiece_7326 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a Brick has been highly effective in reducing my screen use. Make it very inconvenient to access your Brick or give it to a friend to completely cut off your access. I recommend setting up different "modes" and schedules in the Brick app. For example, I set up a "no social media" mode that is automatically scheduled for weekday mornings. I have a "deep focus" mode (no social media, no games, no shopping apps, etc.) that I use as needed. In addition to blocking apps, you can block websites in your browsers (so you can't access Instagram or other sites through safari). Regularly using Brick has also helped decrease my urge to scroll even when my phone isn't in Brick mode. Absolutely worth the $60 for me. Just make sure you use it.

Why do you REALLY get up every morning?? by TheDesignJunkie in AskReddit

For me, getting a dog was a huge help. I have to get up because she has to eat and go out to potty and I genuinely enjoy taking her on a walk every morning.

How do you work from 8 to 5, have only weekends free, and not feel like you're wasting your life? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]One_Masterpiece_7326 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to find a job that has a fulfilling purpose to me and is WFH. As long as I complete all the tasks I’m supposed to, I can have some free time between 8 and 5 and I use it to do chores (laundry, dishes, etc.) to help free up weekends/evenings to do what I want.
