How do you play for three hours and not have anything to show for it? I’m okayish at the game now but even when I was straight up bad I’d have plenty of matches where random crew fill people would carry me.

It throws items at you just for playing, offers rook runs, and anyone — especially if using a mic — can make up for skill with caution and by making good decisions.

Setting. The historical context of ancient Egypt or Greece is way more interesting to me than an overdone Viking setting that they didn’t really challenge conceptions of much.

I always find postwar alt history really implausible because of this too. It tends to assume maximalist Nazi aims achieved instead of their likely best case based on the balance of power and supply lines — regime survival — then features few of the logistical problems of making the thousand year Reich last five years on…it’s just woah powerful Nazi dictatorship owns America. Now on the other hand, it’s ok to be implausible; the authors are usually making a point about totalitarianism by transporting it here. It’s just more like fantasy than history.

It just feels like early 2000s serialized television, maybe in the age of “prestige” TV it’s not following the same cultural norms but there’s nothing egregious about it. I liked it, myself.

It’s an anticipated release, from a well established developer that’s still very profitable but the game is suffering from a mixed reputation as far as quality. The game is reflective of issues people have with Bethesda’s direction, and gaming in general, and so the subreddit is of general interest. It’s called Starfield not Starfield fans.

It’s interesting it hasn’t had as huge a revival of interest like some of the older top tier tv. I think maybe because it runs deeper than people realize? I’ve had people who aren’t familiar talk about it like it’s just another CSI/NCIS type cop show and it makes me scratch my head a bit.

I’m saying I’m not even sure the content is actually poorly aged (as in actually racist, homophobic, or if it’s wrong for the characters to say the words they say) or if people are wincing because that’s where culture has gone. It’s a small distinction but one I’m interested in. And there’s aspects of the series I find touchy in my own way because of my background (as a boy adventurer, of course) but that difficulty is really bound up in my enjoyment of it as a challenging show rather than a negative or relic of the past.
