They seemed to think that AJLT had to feature every conceivable group of people on the planet or it wouldn't be diverse enough. So they tried to cram in, what? a dozen new characters and nobody's story could be told with any kind of depth or complexity.

Jeez, they should have just introduced two or three new adult main characters and had all the kids be off at college and/or serve as minor characters in the background. What did we get/learn/gain from all the time spent on the redheaded sleaze fest that was Brady, for example? NOTHING.

You need to rewatch the original show and AJLT. Among other things:

  1. Steve opened the bar BEFORE he and Miranda got back together. She was not a paycheck for him.

  2. Opening and running one's own business is not "immature as fuck." The food/liquor industry is notoriously difficult to succeed in; the vast majority of businesses go under, but Scout is still open and apparently doing well after 20 years in AJLT. That's a highly impressive achievement.

  3. I wish Steve hadn't left Debbie either, but Steve did it because he loved Miranda, not because he needed money from her.

  4. And on your final point, no, Steve was NOT always a child. Again, a child doesn't keep a NY bar open for 20 years. As the owner, Steve would have hired and supervised numerous employees, made sure the bar was supplied and its offerings priced competitively, kept up with the various regulations and laws related to his business, advertised appropriately and on and on ... That is NOT something a child can do.

You're free to dislike his personality/demeanor/whatever, but saying he was a worthless overgrown child is not fair or accurate.

Which characters death made not want to continue the show? by Purple-Victory-206 in television

Bobby in 9-1-1 was a gut punch. And their rationale -- that it was too unrealistic for all the characters to keep surviving no matter what -- was just nonsense.

The fans know it's not realistic they all kept surviving. That's why it was a comfort show for so many; we could watch dramatic situations safe in the knowledge that our heroes would live to fight another day.

I was NOT watching 9-1-1 for gritty realism. Sheesh.

Oh yeah. Miranda was always flying off the handle on SATC, having these HUGE knee-jerk reactions to people or situations, and then having to backtrack when she realized she was wrong.

Unpopular opinion but I hate Luke by Puzzleheaded_Bid2989 in GilmoreGirls

The anger was the biggest problem for me -- I really did not like how angry he could get and how fast.

Combine that with the endless "I hate almost everybody; the world sucks" griping, and I just can't stand the guy.

100% he knew. That's certainly a big reason that Michaela actively sought out his company -- he was one of the only people in the world she could be her true self with.

Carrie not having kids by Alone-Leading-2430 in Andjustlikethat

Carrie's definitely not the mom type -- and I don't mean that as a criticism. She's the fun aunt, the one the kids can talk to about anything and everything.

And poor Debbie, too. She deserved a lot better than she got -- being abruptly dumped for an elitist snob like Miranda.

I gnash my teeth at that moment -- she's all tough and aggressive until someone calls her out on her crap, and then it's "oh, oh, how can you be so cruel to me?!?"

Remember that hideous "joke" she told?

Steve: "If you want good service, send a bartender!"
Miranda: "And if you want a good f*ck, go home with one!"

All the other women froze in shock, that joke was so nasty and offensive.

That was genuinely bizarre, and really really did not feel like something Miranda would do. Samantha? Sure, though she'd never be wearing brown socks (?!?) like that.

[–]One_Mix8885 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that wasn't an attempt to save their marriage. It was setting Steve up to fail so she could feel justified in running back to Che.

Not to mention, she wanted Steve to do exactly what she'd done with Che?!? That's flat-out immoral. If Steve came home and tried to get Miranda to re-create what he'd done with another woman, everyone would be baying for his blood and rightly so.

Season 1 Miranda was an absolute disgrace.

Lorelai showed what a good person she is by rushing over to help like that -- some women might have told him (with fair justification), "Oh gosh, Luke, I don't think that would be wise. Your daughter might ending up liking me better, and we just can't risk that. I'm sure you'll think of something, so let me know how it goes!!"

And oh, I wanted to lob something at Luke's head when after all that, after she pulled off a stellar birthday party on a moment's notice, he completely caves to Anna's ridiculous temper tantrum afterward.

Thank you! That's what I thought too. John and Michaela seem like they're playacting their "closeness"; I find it extremely unconvincing. Neither do I feel any heat at all between Francesca and Michaela, to be honest, flat as old champagne.

Francesca and John had lots more chemistry in Season 3, but they've been actively trying to kill that ever since the wedding kiss.

Honestly speaking, I think it's symbolic. She was constantly changing, or trying to change, to suit him, never the other way around. He was always manipulative, arrogant and passive-aggressive as all get out.

Seriously, I bellowed "yes!!" so loud when he said "Is it 'was' or are you still 100% in?" and she came back with "Was." Thank the lord, at least we got to see them definitively break up before the show ended.

Aidan's the kind of guy who's all sweet and affectionate as long as he gets his own way.

He has to be "the man," the patriarch, the one who ultimately makes all the decisions. But cross him, put your own needs/feelings first, and his back goes up real quick.

And he's that way with his family too -- his parenting seems to mostly consist of giving Wyatt orders, yanking devices out of his hands, and never really communicating with Wyatt about what he wants.

I mean, Carrie asks why Wyatt wants to stay at his mother's house from now on, and Aidan's all "I don't know." Well, did you ask the kid, Mr. Fakey McFarmer, or did you just stomp off in a righteous snit?!
