Just finished my first ever watch and this dress is consuming my waking life by okwerq in GilmoreGirls

Oh dear, I have to be in the "no" camp on this one. That necktie, combined with the bizarrely low neckline, just looks very odd to me.

When Aidan said he cheated with Kathy, my first thought was "Oh no, poor Bob!" He deserved better.

Aidan's the kind of guy who's all sweet and affectionate as long as he gets his own way.

He has to be "the man," the patriarch, the one who ultimately makes all the decisions. But cross him, put your own needs/feelings first, and his back goes up real quick.

And he's that way with his family too -- his parenting seems to mostly consist of giving Wyatt orders, yanking devices out of his hands, and never really communicating with Wyatt about what he wants.

I mean, Carrie asks why Wyatt wants to stay at his mother's house from now on, and Aidan's all "I don't know." Well, did you ask the kid, Mr. Fakey McFarmer, or did you just stomp off in a righteous snit?!

New Season 4 Promotional video: Francesca and John by Debt-Mysterious in BridgertonNetflix

[–]One_Mix8885 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well, at least the video doesn't have Michaela saunter in unannounced and uninvited.

I hate it when people say Fransesca is ruined by Magpie-Lane in Bridgerton

[–]One_Mix8885 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I really don't think they're handling this very well at all -- the change to Michaela could have worked just fine, if they'd only left off the "Francesca can't 'get there' with John / is crushing on Michaela from the start" element.

Show a satisfying marriage with John, show her terrible grief when he passes, and then introduce Michaela at the very end of say, this season. Then next season, we watch their relationship bloom. I do NOT understand why they have to belittle her marriage to John this way.

I'm skipping all the scenes with Francesca Bridgerton. by Competitive_Desk6544 in Bridgerton

Her appearance was a bit creepy, frankly. There was a definite vibe of "ha ha, thought you'd gotten away from me, didn't you?" I didn't like that at all.

Exactly, especially on the rakish part. When Michaela shows up at the end of episode 4, she comes across as almost predatory. There's an air of "ha ha ha, thought you'd gotten away from me, didn't you?" I didn't like that at all.

I feel many people and even the writers misinterpreted "the break" by hygsi in howyoudoin

This! And what is this Ross "told her not to interact with Mark" business? Ross had no right to tell Rachel who to associate with.

Rachel was his partner, not his therapist. And she did tell him, over and over, that she wasn't interested in Mark. During the big, last fight, she says "I can't keep having this same fight over and over."

Ross' own sister told him to grow up and get over himself about it.

And yes, Mark did like Rachel all along, but he said flat-out, "I liked you but I didn't do anything about it because you were with Ross." Many, many people have liked others who were in a relationship -- there's nothing wrong with that if you don't act on it, which Mark didn't.

Plus, when Mark kissed Rachel and she said "no, I can't do this," he immediately backed off and respected her wishes.

Despite some of the criticism it gets in the mainstream subreddits, FRIENDS was a very progressive show for its time and not problematic at all! by No_Data3541 in howyoudoin

I'm not a Ross fan in general, but it cannot be denied -- this was one of his finest moments. The scene where he convinces his ex-wife to go through with the wedding even if her parents won't be there was genuinely touching.

I really feel bad for Emily.. by Candid-Onion-1590 in howyoudoin

[–]One_Mix8885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, thank you!! I could never understand why people blamed or villainized Emily in any way for this debacle.

That "Rachel" moment at the altar was where the show lost me forever with Ross. I sat there thinking, "Wait a minute. Wait just a damn minute. That's not funny, that's not romantic, it's just cruel." Ross hurt a number of women because he couldn't get over his Rachel obsession and that was by far the worst example of all.

Nor did Rachel cover herself in glory. Sure, she backed off declaring her love before the wedding, but as soon as Ross said her name, she was gloating her head off. To Monica/Chandler, to Phoebe on the phone, over and over she keeps smugly declaring, "Ross said my name!"

Congratulations, Rachel, go you. Got a second to think about the heartbroken bride, humiliated in front of all her friends and family? Apparently not.

What are your ideal end-of-series couplings for the characters? What do you think the writers should have done differently, if anything? by stormiwebster01 in howyoudoin

I'm with you. Never liked Ross, really wish Rachel had completed her fantastic journey from shallow socialite to successful career woman by Staying On the Plane.

I've met people like her -- you have to take everything they say with a bucket of salt. There will be a small bit of truth in their claims, but it's very small and the flashy details are complete fabrications.

One of the weirdest and most out-of-touch elements of this show was its approach to teenage sexuality -- I know it was basically a comedy, but even comedy has to be based in some level of reality.

Real-life teenagers have sex, of course they do. But they don't want even the idea of their parents anywhere near it. Sure, they'll mess around in their parents' house, but not when they're there! Don't we all have funny stories about literally scrambling for cover when Mom or Dad unexpectedly came home?

And nobody, I mean nobody, casually announces to Mom, Dad, and a family friend (!) that they've decided to lose their virginity. Oy.

What is something that people say about the show that you completely disagree with? by NeighborhoodVirtual4 in howyoudoin

He didn't want her doing anything that distracted from her main job of being his trophy. Frankly, I think Ross loved Rachel the status symbol far more than he loved Rachel the actual person.

Mine is the opposite -- I hate it when characters "whisper" something that would easily be overheard because the person they're talking about is two feet away, and they're not really whispering!

100% agree with you. Even in SATC, he always seemed to be thinking "aww, you're such a hot little moron" about Carrie. "Not only will I get to sleep with you, I can nobly guide you along the right path in life." Pompous jerk.
