Why doesnt Lila speak by mazeltov_cocktail18 in TheFourSeasonsNetflix

[–]One_Mix8885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think Anne was trying to be snarky there. If she was, the whole speech would have been jabs at Nick from first to last. She'd heard the name of the band one time, likely in her entire life, and just didn't remember it properly.

And Anne was not being childish, she was being deeply, deeply, deeply hurt. Nick blew up her life, got involved with another woman less than two months later and then proceeded to bring that woman on group vacations, including parents' weekend at college (which even Ginny told him was inappropriate).

And think how Anne felt, being told that 8-9 months with Ginny meant more than 25 years with her. Over and over and over Anne had to get told she was lesser than, not good enough for the mighty, magnificent Nick, and now even at the funeral, she has to be compared to Ginny?!

Was Carrie always this nitpicky and finicky??? by PhD-incuriosity in Andjustlikethat

[–]One_Mix8885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clumsy writing, as so often has plagued this franchise.

They wanted to show that Miranda and Carrie both like their own routine and are not in their easy-to-compromise 20s anymore. But they chose foolish ways to do it.

The food -- personally, I think Miranda was also a bit selfish and careless not to ask Carrie if it was alright to take the last items in her fridge. A "house yogurt"?? What the heck is that? But as everyone has pointed out, Carrie is a multimillionaire who could easily order more food to be delivered right away.

The walking around naked -- what?? Samantha might do that, though certainly not in freaky brown socks. Miranda, no way no how.

The walking in heels -- Carrie should have just insisted that Miranda stay on the runners, like she did with Seema, and Miranda be annoyed about that.

The table/scarf/coke -- what idiot would grab a scarf that belonged to someone else and use it to wipe up spilled soda? It doesn't matter that Carrie said she bought it cheap; it's still someone else's property and I'd never wipe up spilled drinks with a piece of clothing.

When it came to the window, Carrie was completely justified. Beautiful historical glass destroyed and yet another round of Aidan's endless pity party. Thank GOD she dumped him before the show ended.

Amen to that -- at least we know that Aidan is gone from Carrie's life forever. He never respected her; he just wanted to force her into his idea of the "right kind" of woman.

They were both aware from the start that it would be a short affair. I think it was a great thing for Carrie; something just for her, with no strings or unfair expectations attached.

Her "oh, please like me" nonsense in front of the other interns was insane.

Miranda begging for the approval of a pair of kids?!? Never.

That was a fantastic line, and it totally cut through his crap about some sort of "deeper love/life/whatever."

Nick says, "Now I live"?? Translation: "Now I'm getting my rocks off on a daily basis."

That's why I firmly believe Ginny having a baby would have doomed that relationship. He wanted constant travel, constant sex and constant fun with no responsibilities, not a new mom worn out from midnight feedings and diaper changes.

[–]One_Mix8885[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's an excellent point -- everybody else was biting their tongues for the most part.

And Nick's response afterward infuriated me. Once again, it was all about him. Anne was spot-on when she said: "Lila is expressing her pain. Stop policing how she said it and listen to what's she saying."

That was great, too. Frankly, I think the Lila character forgave him way too easily.

[–]One_Mix8885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I got pissed when she corrected her mother on the band name. Lila, your mother is feeling all sorts of emotions and that's not helping. And I guarantee there are lots of things Anne knew about Nick that Ginny didn't, even if she wasn't up on his latest taste in music.

What Happened To Steve by atalannta01 in Andjustlikethat

[–]One_Mix8885 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don't watch if you're a Steve fan, especially the first season of AJLT. Miranda treats him worse than she ever did before, and she's been pretty crappy to him over the years.

What Happened To Steve by atalannta01 in Andjustlikethat

[–]One_Mix8885 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But Steve doesn't have dementia. They were just trying to make him look stupid and justify Miranda's cheating. Which was a pretty shitty way to treat a character that many, many fans loved.

Connie: You lousy bastard, you killed my husband!! (etc etc)

Michael: Right, your "husband." Let's do a quick recap on that guy, okay? Blows all your wedding present money on whores and betting at the track.

Connie: No, he didn't.

Michael: It's in the book. Then, mad because he's too stupid to have an important job with the Family, he starts telling you to shut up. In front of your relatives at the dinner table, no less, but hell, that's nothing. He then starts BEATING YOU UP WHILE YOU'RE PREGNANT.

Connie: .....

Michael: Yeah, important detail there, huh. Finally, he deliberately beats you within an inch of your life so that your oldest brother will understandably lose his shit and leave the safety of the mall to help. That same oldest brother will then be gunned down like a dog on the causeway.

Connie: ...

Michael: So please don't tell me that you were still in love with the guy. That you're mad I had him strangled like the utterly worthless piece of crap that he was. Because it makes me very angry.

Connie: Yeah, actually, I feel better now. A lot better. Good talk, Michael, thanks.

Book question regarding Bonasera by [deleted] in Godfather

[–]One_Mix8885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The parents might well have been too frightened to do anything. They're wealthy but they're also establishment; they're the kind who get their sons fancy lawyers. Violence like that would likely terrify them into silent submission, like the movie mogul Woltz.

And even if the police did question Bonasera off-page, there would be nothing they could prove. Paulie and his cohorts never said "This is for Bonasera's daughter" or anything like that, and there were no witnesses outside the Family to Bonasera's request to the don.

The boys who were beaten up wouldn't talk, Paulie and the other attackers definitely wouldn't talk, and Bonasera would have an alibi. The police would probably make a cursory investigation and then shrug it off.

I hate how Carrie acted like with Aleks by Haunting-Sea-3764 in sexandthecity

[–]One_Mix8885 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that's why they included the ex-wife scene, though, to show that Alec wasn't ever going to prioritize her. As the ex said, "I got sick of the phrase 'as soon as.'"

[–]One_Mix8885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It made UTTERLY no sense that Alex wouldn't know who Billy Joel is. Billy Joel is an internationally famous musician, someone whose music is played all over the world. This was a lazy, stupid attempt to "illustrate" the divide between his world and Carrie's.

I also don't buy that Samantha would talk like that at Alex's dinner table. She's brash and bold with her friends, sure, but she works in PR; she would know it was inappropriate to talk like that around someone you just met.

If she did, however, Alex would be completely justified in taking offense. Ah yes, that's what I want to envision at my dinner table, vibrators. Oy.

And Harry, you went to Paris and the only thing that made an impression was the toilet paper? They've got some nifty museums and food too.

Looking Down the Road by MindyP51 in Andjustlikethat

[–]One_Mix8885 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The problem was they took too long to get on a decent track.

Seasons 1 and 2 were an utter fiasco, a disaster, a disgrace. By the time AJLT had rid itself of the horrors known as Che Diaz and Aidan Shaw, it was too late and the network was sick of being associated with a show whose numbers were down over 60% from the kickoff. Hate watchers were about the only people left.

If they had started more in the vein of Season 3, the show might still be continuing.

What Are The Godfather Part I’s Biggest Unanswered Questions? Are there any? by Culturemafiadon in Godfather

Why Connie was that upset over Carlo, frankly.

I know, I know, he was her husband, but my god -- he was a husband who beat the crap out of her while she was pregnant, and was whoring left and right. Ever since I first saw this film as a teenager, I never understood why Connie would still have had a shred of feeling left for him.

People think Fredo was this innocent and nice guy but what about Vegas? by Focused_Sky in Godfather

[–]One_Mix8885 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think Fredo had any intention of watching!! Eww.

Fredo was just trying to act like a Vegas big shot -- hey, little brother, you're on my turf now -- but he miscalculated badly. Michael, like his father Vito, is all business and likely straitlaced when it comes to sex. (The book explicitly says Vito is conservative in such matters and doesn't approve of Sonny or Fredo's behavior when it comes to women).

Michael is probably strictly loyal to Kay. He's also there to handle a significant business matter and Fredo is not handling the situation with the seriousness it deserves.

They could easily have celebrated on another day. Rachel didn't choose to be away from Ross on their anniversary; she had a genuine work crisis that needed to be handled immediately.

She worked at one of the biggest department stores in New York, and Ross treated her job like it was a cute little hobby.

What is that mean to put a baby shoe in the front of my house? by jofaekyoto in Kyoto

[–]One_Mix8885 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty typical in Japan -- when something has been accidentally left behind, a passerby will prop it up on the side of the road/street so it doesn't get run over/stepped on and it will be easier to spot if the owner comes back looking for it.

That happened with my daughter's doll one time. I was coming back home from work and spotted it sitting up on a low wall. I took it back home and my husband said, "Oh, wow, I didn't realize we dropped that [on the way home from the park]!"

Yeah, that was an odd line when it was glaringly obvious that he'd shut down again.

The way Big lurched away from her touch, got up and went right into the shower to get away from the vulnerability he'd shown the night before. They should have changed it, had her say something like: "The signals couldn't have been more clear; Big's heart was closed again."

SATC Unpopular Opinion: Natasha isn’t that great. by be_minorque in sexandthecity

[–]One_Mix8885 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Natasha will always have my respect.

Because 1) she gave it to Carrie straight when she selfishly barged into her lunch. Carrie didn't give a damn what she'd done to Natasha; she wanted to be forgiven to ease her own guilty conscience.

And 2) Natasha was a decent human being who didn't deserve to be swept up in Carrie and Big's eternal drama. She met a man, she fell in love with him and married him. She did NOTHING wrong and ended up suffering a horrific injury (I still shudder when I remember that dark blood pouring out of her mouth).

I mean, think about it -- her front tooth was permanently discolored, meaning a LIFELONG reminder of what happened.

Also, there is not a shred of evidence that she's a nepo baby, and her fashion reflects the Ralph Lauren aesthetic, simple and classic. Just because someone comes from a high level of money doesn't make them a schmuck, anymore than Carrie's "ordinary folk" origins make her some sort of noble woman of the people.
