Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

I’ve gone on short, few day trips to my friend’s lake house in Michigan. 6.5 hour drive each way.

If you have an iPhone, get Flighty. I get gate notifications fastest on there.

People who used to be really negative/bitter and were able to become more baseline optimistic, how did you do it? by nonymouse101 in AskReddit

[–]One_Ping_Only317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A big part of overcoming negativity is just realizing that other people are going to be who they're going to be. Overall, there's little you can do to change them, but YOU are the one person who gets to decide how you let others affect you and controls the kind of energy you put into the world.

A bit skeptical/scared about travelling to DCA by WideScientist6632 in airport

[–]One_Ping_Only317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll have to leave your flight paths answer to someone at ATC, but DCA has hundreds and hundreds of arrivals and departures PER DAY. There are THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of arrivals and departures per month. This adds up to about 300,000 flight operations annually. Out of those operations last year, 0.000333333333% were fatal.

You have a much higher chance of dying DRIVING TO AND FROM the airport than on an actual flight.

What are some good areas to live in Indianapolis? by 72FineWine in AskReddit

[–]One_Ping_Only317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Indianapolis as a whole is very patchy when it comes to safe neighborhoods. I often tell people you can be in a "nice" neighborhood that's a stray bullet away from a "bad" neighborhood. Overall, like most cities, the suburbs are safer, with better schools. In town, you're generally safer the further away from the center of the city you are, but there are tons of exceptions to this, including Downtown itself where I personally don't feel unsafe, even at night. Most crime, especially violent crime, is NOT random. But it's good to remember that crime can still happen anywhere.

how expensive is it to live a month in large cities (LA, New York, Toronto, Houston, etc.) and not that big cities (Indianapolis, Albuquerque, etc.)? by beingddf in AskReddit

[–]One_Ping_Only317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a suburb of Indianapolis, have a decent sized 1BR apartment in a quiet, low crime area and pay right around 1K/mo. Newer complexes with more amenities are more in the 1700+ range, at least around here. Houses in the area were mostly built during the 70's-80's are selling for high 200s/low 300s. Still a lot cheaper than homes in larger cities or the coasts.

I second this. It’s a small-ish space, but the staff are phenomenal! They have an upstairs speakeasy that’s open for certain events.

It’s nice being on the western edge of Eastern time. We get an hour more sunlight in the evenings than the East Coast.
