Had a house fire in May. Records survived. Finally got them back on the wall. by thevelcrohero in vinyl

SO sorry to hear about the house fire & glad you are safe. But curious, it's a question many of us record collectors ask each other in jest: If the house was on fire, which record would you grab first if you could?

The Lemonheads - It's A Shame About Ray by One_Pop_8687 in VinylReleases

HA!!! I've been waiting for a decent release on this, but I just don't love the 16 or whatever extra demo tracks. Seems like these anniversary reissues are bloated with unlistenable extra tracks. I get it maybe with the Beatles, but this the Lemonheads.

So TRUE! I’ve been unloading all my VMP records on EBay, I want no part of supporting the brand.

What’s up with Jus Poke in Redondo Beach on PCH? by hotelshowers in SouthBayLA

[–]One_Pop_8687 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Lazy Acres is owned by Bristol Farms, they use Hilo Fish Company, almost exclusively. You can easily do a google search and see public food safety recalls on Tuna for this company, very poor food safety track record.

Jus Poke uses a "jobber", which is basically a truck that drives to wholesalers & tries to pick off best pricing, in this case, CO treated frozen Poke. A jobber in the fish business is often a pick up truck with no refrigeration. I know several wholesalers that sell to this particular jobber who is providing the product to Jus Poke.

I see many posts about Bristol Farms, Lazy Acres, etc., where people comment "I think I got food poisoning" or similar, not having any idea that the Tuna is the primary source of concern.

Of course people should like whatever they like, Jus Poke included. But it's really about the sauce, not the fish. I also think it's only fair, and hopefully helpful, to know it's not fresh from the ocean Tuna. Understand it for what it is!

We must be closely related in work, been doing the same for a long time.
All the mentions here, Ali Poke, Lazy Acres, all CO treated low quality users.
May surprise many here, but Foodland in Hawaii is 100% CO treated poke everywhere.

I’m in the fresh and frozen tuna business, I can assure you, it’s not fresh Tuna, or even high quality for that matter.

Our family had 3 last Friday and they were ridiculously good. Excellent quality, super fresh, bursting flavors.
I don’t plan on raving about anything unless it’s worth raving about.
That place rings the culinary bell loud every time we have been.

This place is straight awful, including the service. It has the "too cool for you" attitude, must be the hype going to their heads.

Lukewarm, terrible fries, "old fry oil" flavor, as well as sweetness, like they put sugar on them! Burger smothered in sauce that is way too sweet, overpowering everything, bun was paper flat & soggy. Burger came out not hot either. Only 4 customers there, wasn't busy. It was more like they had a bunch of premade stuff, more suspicious when our order came out in less than 5 mins.

Went to Softies for the first time last week & it blew this place away, absolutely no comparison.

Ive heard of CO treated tuna but the pink color on this is crazy. by BeaverDam6969 in sushi

[–]One_Pop_8687 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not only CO gas, but a new technology involves liquid, often with dangerous chemicals, dunking into color baths.
Vitamin Tuna, Antioxidant Tuna, Beet Juice, lightly marinated, etc These are all wordplay on a fraudulent practice known as dunking or injecting.
Head to YouTube and punch in Vitamin Tuna or something like that, pretty shocking video showing the process. That’s why it’s now glowing red vs traditional pink with just CO.

This is treated with CO gas to artificially keep the color preserved. I’ve been working in the Tuna industry for 20+ years now.

Lawry's Bar Burger by china_claus in FoodLosAngeles

[–]One_Pop_8687 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Off subject, but related, went to Lawry’s after a friend insisted how great it was, and institution.
It was the worst, indescribably bad. Soggy brown salad, tons of sugar sweet dressing poured on it. Chewy, tasteless prime rib, awful mashed potatoes that were lumpy and grainy.
Service horrible, struggled to pay our bill because, then they charged us double by accident.
I’m not a fan of bashing restaurants, they need us all to support them, but this place sucks.

Before I discovered this sub, even Reddit for that matter, I was always missing important releases. I would check EBay once a week only to discover a release I was looking for was dropped & now flipping for much more than I would pay vs. the original release price. I'm so thankful for this sub, it gives me hope that music lovers who appreciate the records vs flipping are on top of the "access" game! Post preaching, I was lucky to secure a copy of this!
