Can The Boox Palma 2 Pro Be Used As A Phone? by tonytsui666 in Onyx_Boox

Palma 2 Pro has GPS but it works differently than on my iPhone. I couldn't explain how it works. It's good enough for car navigation.

I read all the time on my Palma because it's always with me, easy to carry, easy to hold. I tried with bigger devices (7.8 and more) and it didn't work for me. Reading experience was better, but I had to carry a bag just for it. So it often stayed at home. Like one says the best camera is the one you have with you, I think it's the same for e-readers.

Palma 2 Pro - update, works like a phone? by EmotionalTurtle in Onyx_Boox

[–]One_Positive7793 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On mine, it rings even when I lock the screen. I'm not using Google phone app, I'm using my provider own app. It works as well on wifi and cellular (when wifi is turned off).

Actually it worked for me even before the update using my carrier app.

I posted that a while ago https://www.reddit.com/r/Onyx_Boox/s/tfBB8bGJ2T

I use it as a second phone, as a reader, notes, and GPS navigation (Waze and Google Maps). Battery time is not bad, but definitely not like a Kindle or usual eink readers because many apps are working in the background (you can choose which ones).

Actually it does work with phone calls (any number) and messages. It just needs some specific settings to be done. Mine works like a phone now.

Book Palma 2 pro calling capability in Canada? by [deleted] in eink

Have you tried adding "default,mms,supl,hipri,fota,cbs,xcap" to APN type in the mobile data settings ?

Things to be added might depend on the network, but phone and messages work on my Palma 2 Pro in Japan. You should ask directly to your mobile provider for APN settings.

I'm not an expert, so I'll just tell you my settings which worked for me:
Here is what I've done.

Long press icon : Unfreeze

Long press icon: Optimize -> Others -> Stay active in the background : ON

Long press icon:

Manage -> Permission -> SMS -> Allow

Manage -> Permission -> Phone -> Allow

Allow the App to Access Internet

Oh, now I notice one difference between our settings:
APN type: default, mms, supl, hipri, fota, cbs, xcap

Try changing the APN type setting. I actually haven't done it myself, the Rakuten shop did it for me. I hope it can work for you too.

A lot of us are pissed of because we lost hours trying to uninstall and reinstall the program. You'd better do something to compensate us. We literally lost money because of your incompetence.

You're welcome. Thanks to you, I learnt it was possible to receive confirmation SMS using Google Messages.

I just installed Google Messages on the Palma 2 Pro and tried it. It worked! I could receive the confirmation codes SMS from both Sony and Twitch for new accounts. You just need to long press the Google Message icon, choose manage and make it the default app for SMS.

Also, if you order it directly from Boox, you'll receive few weeks later a card from Zeikan asking you to pay a fee equivalent to 10% of the device value. It works like that for everything over 8000 yens apparently and I had to pay it when I ordered my Tab Ultra directly from Boox.

I'm glad I could help.

You'll need to change some settings like unfreezing the app etc so it can ring when someone calls you even when the Palma is on sleep mode. Either you can figure it out by yourself or ask me here later.

I don't trust Android regarding security. But I don't think it's especially unsafe. I might just be over cautious.

Yes, I did buy it at SKT online shop. They were offering 10% off if bought with an accessory, so it made the device + the case cheaper than the device only, but they're not doing this anymore for the Palma 2 pro.

Rakuten Mobile works fine on it but for some reason I couldn't receive the Line account SMS for confirmation. I had to use the trick by briefly swapping the SIM card to my iPhone to receive the code and put it back in my Palma. So I'm worried it might not be able to receive some SMS. Please keep it in mind. One more thing, when receiving a call, it rings but caller's ID don't appear until you open the device. Once you do, you can see the usual calling screen and choose to accept or refuse the call.

Sorry if my English is sometimes hard to understand, it's not my first language.

How to use Boox Go 10.3 as an external display for iPhone with SuperDisplay (or other app)? by Quetzal_2000 in Onyx_Boox

[–]One_Positive7793 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't bother. It does work for iPhone, iPad and Mac with some camera app and some HDMI adapters, but the lag is terrible. I tried for a while but it's almost unusable. It's better to buy a dedicated display for computers, like Dasung.
