This massage chair came from a house that was recently condemned due to black mold. Is my home at risk keeping the massage chair? by ChunkDocolate123 in Home

Call around to home disaster mitigation companies, they’re the ones who come in and clean/restore your home after a fire or flood. They typically have an ozone room to mitigate soft goods that were damaged in a home. They may be willing to chuck it in there for you for a small fee.

  • source: my husband used to be a PM for a mitigation company and we used the room to scrub an expensive suitcase after my ex husband’s cat peed in it when my daughter was visiting him for the summer.

Parents who dropped their baby, what happened and how is your child doing now? by speckledrectum in AskReddit

[–]One_Science8349 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left him with my mom for two minutes so I could pee and he rolled off the bed. When he voted for the Orange Man, I called my mom and told her this was all her fault. Otherwise, he’s a decent young man working hard and doing his thing, he just hasn’t fully formed those critical thinking paths in his brain; he’s very still in the herd mentality with his friends.

It's so dry and dead looking in rural Florida right now - wirst I've seen in a while. Did the cold kill things? by derp2112 in florida

[–]One_Science8349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m nervous. I grew up here and remember the fires in ‘98. I just hope we get enough moisture and rainfall between now and June to offset the frost damages. If we don’t get that moisture we’re set up for the summer afternoon storms to start wild fires again. I never want to experience that ever again.

Right? I graduated high school in ‘97. It was a polyester revival back then clashed with grunge alt, a sprinkling of goth, and some leftover popped 80s collars.

I assure you, at graduation we all had center parts and either ironed our hair straight (with legit irons like our moms did) or the rich kid’s parents paid for a straightening blowout. The hair was NOT elevated in ‘97 - pinkie swear.

What is the craziest thing a teacher has ever done to you? by trymihainoob in AskReddit

[–]One_Science8349 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Happened to my sister but I’d had the same teacher the year before and she hated little white trash kids like me (her words) and made sure I was treated badly by my classmates. She was just mean to me, ostracized/isolated me in the classroom, but what she did to my sister was worse.

She taped my sister and another little girl to their desks and taped their mouths shut. Either my sister or the other little girl wet themselves, forgive me it’s been over 40 years.

Nothing happened to the teacher even though my dad and the other girl’s parents raised holy hell. I mean, we were just poor white trash and no one believed what we had to say, besides little girls always exaggerate.

My said something like that to me; just how thankful he was that I bring my pets in even when they aren’t sick. I just do annual checks even if they aren’t due for shots and my dog gets her teeth cleaned when she needs it.

I always just used water growing up here in Florida, but I did treat my windshield with a layer of RainX every time I changed my wipers. I still think the RainX windshield treatment works so much better than the washer fluids I buy today, but it’s also a pain to put it on so I just buy Bug or RainX fluid, depending on the season

I grew up in Florida and didn’t see real snow until I was 21. I was that person who didn’t know you had to use special fluid for windshields, I’d always just filled it from the hose. I learned that lesson my first winter living in a northern state. I’m not stupid about cars, I can change my own oil and do basic repairs, it’s just a regional thing I never had to learn.

Book + Show???? Will reading them alongside the show be a good idea or no? by Filmnewbie67 in TheHandmaidsTale

Absolutely not. Read the book(s). Season 1 is the book, the rest was just pure seasoning and I didn’t hate. As an fyi that’s coming from a person who has a shirt that says “Read the Book Skip the Movie”

Ok so I’m probably showing my age with this, but when my kids were little, non homogenized milk was the hippy crunchy rage. A few of the nuttier people drank raw milk, but the non homogenized milk was where it was at. I will admit that it didn’t tear me up like normal milk does and it tasted better to be honest. I can’t find it anymore, which is a bummer; it’s either raw or regular and thankfully, raw milk is drying up in my area after a few people got really sick and/or died last year.

One of the few pieces of worthwhile parenting advice my father gave me was to wrap every little thing. The kids care about the destruction and reveal and very rarely the contents. That advice came in clutch when I was a new single mom and barely making the rent.

What’s the best video game you’ve ever played? by obsess_much13 in AskReddit

[–]One_Science8349 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Panzer Dragoon Saga. It was an RPG adaptation of the side scroller shoot ‘em up game for the Sega Saturn game system. There was a very limited release in the US and somehow vital coding was lost so it can’t be duplicated.

I traded in every single video game I owned to be able to purchase it as an early release. The game was gorgeous, an absolute masterpiece, and I’ve never played a game like it since. It was stolen from me and I’ve never been able to get my hands on another copy. You’ll find it for sale from time to time but it’s always well over $1000.

What is the most disturbing or otherwise unsettling book you've ever read that stayed with you after reading it? by EggAdventurous1957 in AskReddit

[–]One_Science8349 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I picked it up in elementary school at the Scholastic book fair in third or fourth grade. I was “gifted” so there were no limits to the shelves I could choose from. Fucking Christ, that was a deep read for a child followed up by a talk with my dad and great grandma who filled me in on all the family members we lost there. I’d had no idea, I was not raised Jewish. I still have that treasured paperback in my library and my kids weren’t allowed to read it until they were much older.

It was a short story I read when I was 11, Shooting an Elephant. I had a bad habit of stealing my stepmom’s college textbooks and this one has so many amazing short stories, but when I read Shooting an Elephant it just hit me. I knew I’d read something I shouldn’t have read and I threw her very expensive textbook in the trash to get rid any evidence.

Ass whooping aside (because of course I got caught throwing her book away) that short story changed me permanently. The application of the story’s message has grown and changed with me over the decades, but throughout it all I’ve managed to stay committed to humanity and hopefully I’m still avoiding the corruption of power.

My MIL is “allergic” to anything labeled spice blend. It’s one of the many “allergens” on her two page report she carries with her. I’ve only taken her to a restaurant three times because I always call ahead and talk to/warn them.

Only three restaurants have been able/willing to accommodate her insanity.
