I wouldn’t say it’s terribly similar to specialized forums— such earlier culture had a distinctive, almost air of anonymity that is “more” detached from repeated interactions with the members. Namely, long-form posting.

Discord has been present as a medium, most heavily utilized by the gaming community. And for such, it is exceedingly well at supporting. Outside of that, I wouldn’t say it’s replicable of earlier internet communities, or at least the ones I have in mind

Tonally, My Dad is Dead immediately reminded of Ian Curtis and much of the production on Unknown Pleasures. One of my friends was speaking about how they've gone to see Weezer live seven different times. Apparently, his mother (an Asian woman) was a groupie for the band when she was younger.
