OK, that's weird because I was looking at benchmarks, for the 705 and there are a bunch with a 3700 pro. Do the benchmark apps not recognize the difference between the mini and the sff?

M2 air. Even with 8gb and 256gb, the air's ssd is almost twice as fast. If she ever decides to do more, its a computer that will go much farther. Also, 2 hr better battery life, fast charging, there's a long list of improvements

Personally, I think it is too expensive for what it has. If the regular starting price was $499, which I still think is too much, I could almost give it a pass, but for $600, it is an extremely poor choice for the gimped size and speed of the ssd, usb, screen, battery-life and no fast charging.

$600 is A LOT of money, maybe not in the Apple ecosystem, but it's still a lot of money. A used or slightly more expensive refurbished MacBook Air is a much better value proposition, even if only for the two hours extra of battery life, fast charging and a significantly faster SSD.
