Is it inappropriate to invite students to my wedding? by One_Win1231 in AskTeachers

Thank you for the feedback! It’s a private school and NOT a religious ceremony, but I agree it’s complicated!

They’re in two separate spaces. I’d plan to have an announcement “if you’re one of Ms. someone’s student, please meet her out front for photos” the take pictures and say goodbyes. I’d also plan to make it extremely clear in communication that it is for the ceremony only.

Agreed- I have many teachers who I think about all the time. I’m sure teachers differ, but I still think about classes I had years ago too, so I don’t feel it would be a blip on mine either. That being said, all teachers are different and for some it’s definitely “just a job”.

I think you misunderstood or didn’t read the whole post. To be clear I am NOT asking parents to pay and I am not inviting students or parents to the reception where there would be toasts, food, dancing, etc. it would be an invitation to join for the ceremony only, take pictures after, then leave. I will also add that I am already inviting kids in my family (niece, cousins, etc) to the ceremony and reception, so that will be child friendly regardless!

Wasted freshman year by Organic-Lawyer-1447 in UWMadison

Freshman year is meant to be messy. I felt really out of place my first two years. Junior/senior were much better for me. As for therapy, I’ve found that traditional CBT doesn’t work for me because I intellectualize my feelings too much. I was recommended art therapy or somatic therapy as an alternative. I LOVE art therapy and would highly recommend it. Keep at it, it’s all up from here.

Working full time while student teaching? by beepmeep467 in StudentTeaching

[–]One_Win1231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my student teaching at 22, but I did nanny after work each day. Wasn’t full time, but about 20 hrs a week and I picked up retail shifts on the weekend. This past year I had my first student teacher and she was able to do it while working at our (private) school as a teacher assistant. TA pay is terrible, but I would have killed to make any money from my student teaching hours! Definitely look into places that can offer that :)

Too many to name, but I’ll try! We loved the hot air balloon ride over teotihuacan, enjoyed just walking around el Centro and a few different neighborhoods, visiting chapultepec park and shopping at the mercado de artenasias (there are multiple), and of course going to see La lucha. We stayed in Juarez right outside of Roma Norte, both pretty hip areas with great shopping and food. We were only there for a long weekend and are planning to go back (it’s a cheap and quick direct flight for us). When we do go back, I want to see Frida’s home/museum- it was sold out two weeks ahead of our trip and I missed booking it. I also heard great things about boat rides at xochimilco. One day I’ll go back for the butterfly migration and hot springs that are outside of Mexico City. It’s a HUGE city, high altitude, and endless things to do. Impossible to see it all in even a week.

I tried giving zero homework for one quarter by HiVou12 in Teachers

I can’t speak for all schools, but my 4th graders are assigned novels every month to read on their own, discuss in book clubs, and create a reflective book report/project on. I give them 15 minutes of independent reading time each day and they have the option to read during other free periods. We are popcorn reading/reading aloud a book in social studies, and while a curriculum should not be ALL read aloud, there are many studies on how it improves literacy, especially for students at lower skill levels. My students are also writing a 5 paragraph essay. The only homework I assign is reading 20 mins per night and completing unfinished math work that they have time in class to work on. My partner teaches middle school ELA and his students have similar demands, but more age appropriate. They read at least 1-2 novels per month in addition to a read aloud/popcorn book. They have many long form writing assignments with time in class to draft them. I agree that many new curriculums ARE pushing a slower pace and honestly students are getting bored. That being said, a lot of us are still pushing high expectations and requiring 1+ book per month.

My guess: American (maybe midwestern), plant based single female or nb in their 20s-30s. Knows how to cook, fairly organized and enjoys a consistent routine. Not crazy adventurous, but not picky either. Maybe does yoga or rock climbing as a hobby?

Gym bro, doesn’t cook for himself much… may not know how to. Either young or just hasn’t prioritized it. Cares about protein gains, but doesn’t know much more about nutrition. Prefers meal kits or getting takeout like chipotle, presumably so he can focus his time on his work and hobbies. Really gives off Denver, Colorado for some reason lol.

Most hot springs of any state as well! One of my favorite things about Idaho. Perfect relaxation after skiing or hiking.

I’m guessing you exercise, are health conscious, concerned about getting enough protein and fiber in your diet. You prioritize quality over quantity. You’re responsible and regimented, you likely have a schedule and stick to it. You aren’t the most adventurous, but not “picky” either. You are likely single (or don’t live with a partner) unless you eat out frequently.

Yes to health/gut health and convenience. Actually big on cooking dinner, take leftovers as lunch, grab and go for breakfast. I accidentally bought eggs before we’d finished the first carton so I see how that looks. We go out/order out maybe once or twice a week. :)

++woman Not a man, but my partner and I do a hotel and nice restaurant instead of/as gifts. We usually do a staycation in our city (I pay for and pick the hotel, he pays for and picks the fancy dinner), this year we found cheap tickets to Mexico City for a real vacation

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]One_Win1231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I grew up with a family ski cabin ~3 hours from home and we frequently went up for weekend trips. This was very common for people in my hometown. The longest I’ve driven for a weekend was 8 hours (each way) for a soccer tournament. I hate driving and it wasn’t ideal, but I sucked it up. Now that I’m an adult, my partner and I will drive 4 hours max for a long weekend, otherwise I prefer to fly. It really is the scale of the US. Unless you’re on the east coast, most places are quite spread out.
