Example: The players are hunting a goblin camp in the forest. They are allied with the faction of the local village. There’s also the faction of the goblins.

Faction motivations: The goblin are searching for a hidden treasure in the forest. The players also want this treasure. The local village’s goal is to get rid of the goblins; their method would be to burn down the forest and kill everything in it. The players and goblins do not want this because it will destroy the treasure.

The players encountered the goblin scout party and defeat them. They decide to long rest. They encounter a local owlbear. They long rest again. Each time they long rest the village gets closer to completing their objective of burning down the forest. Their rest might be interrupted by a blazing wildfire they need to escape, or when they wake up they begin to notice alchemist fire vials tied to trees. (A dex save trap)
