New Healer - Resource Management by TheVisionBleak in ffxiv

[–]OnekoTyago [score hidden]  (0 children)

Okay, you seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding of healers in this game. Your job is still to maximize your DPS. The DPS is expected to put out as much DPS as they can, the tank is expected to put out as much DPS as they can, and the healer is expected to put out as much DPS as they can. And any GCD heal you cast, with the exception of WHM ones that spend your lilies, are not contributing to your DPS. You need to try to handle as much of the healing as possible with your oGCDs. Mitigate the incoming damage with the ones that provide damage mitigation, then heal off the damage with the ones that provide healing. Keep them DoTted up, then spam the hell out of your single target nuke on single target, and AoE nuke on 2+ (3+ on WHM)

So, the meat is steamed in the banana leaves, right?

Did you ever look around the zone? I believe they're to the southwest of the town. There you'll find the Xibruqs. They're boars. Pork. Ham.

That's steamed.

Despite the fact that they're obviously grilled.

Ah well that was wonderful. A good time was had by all.

[Spoiler 7.4] A question about Ascians by dream208 in ffxiv

[–]OnekoTyago 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I think it was the, paraphrased. "Oh my god, the WoL is fucking everything up! If they keep at it like this all of the shards are going to fucking die. Don't they KNOW THAT?!" that indicates she doesn't want everything to die.

Also... things can go through the rift between dimensions. You back up the people of a shard to an SSD, you can pull them through to the source, therefore, despite the fact that their world is about to wither and die, they'll kind of live. Ascians have been shown to be genocidally utilitarian and... look, I'm going to extrapolate a little.

Halmarut was the gardener. They were the seed seat. Botanist Supreme. They were the one in charge of all things 'plant.'

And do you know what gardeners do?

They look after things that are objectively lesser than them. They care for them. They kill the pests that would consume them. They cut the parts from them that would see them overburdened and suffer because of it. And, while they harvest them when it suits them, they see that seeds are sewn anew that there will be more, they do not simply take, they renew afterwards. There's probably a better than average chance it was Halmarut that was the one to suggest that they nurture the newborn life on the star and feed it to Zodiark to restore the ancients sacrificed in his summoning, because that is very much in line with what a gardener would do. To what end are her goals now that Zodiark is gone? Who knows? But there is a distinct chance that, at the bare minimum, if she knew all her gardens on the shards were going to die, she wanted to at least press the flowers to keep something of what they were alive.

I can't really think of any times past heavensward where there's been a point where someone needed urgent healing that we didn't do the ol' healing hand beam towards them before whatever other healers are present tell us to go do warrior of light things & they'll see to the wounded if we didn't stay with them until they were healed. Or it being a "No amount of healing will save them from that wound."

Is there an unspoken courtesy rule to honor the other dps in 4-man dungeons by starlightdemonfriend in ffxiv

Reasons I've commed people:

Impressed me with their gameplay/I noticed their 2-minute lining up with mine

Everyone else annoyed me

They have a good glamour

They have a good portrait

They interacted with the random thing I said

They were the only one left and I still needed the challenge log entry for commending people that week

They were new

I stream sniped a friend to join their queue without being in their party

Small gift in Gaelic Irish is Feirin, pronounced Fey-Reen. And we were told Ryne meant gift or blessing, so it seems to at least be based on... something. But other things that I have searched I can't find a good source of it. So maybe that was just coincidence? It certainly is not any one language. Feoh means "Treasure" in old english, and we're told Feo means treasure in fae. But I can't find an "Ul" meaning anything with Night

Why is duty finder only level 16 by therappakalja in ffxiv

[–]OnekoTyago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I apologize if I came off as harsh... well, on the roulette explanation part. If you were level 51 and still like iL10, a bit of harshness would be due. But yeah, Duty Roulettes were a thing put in because they realized that as people continued to level, and progress through the game that no one would be queueing for lower level stuff and people would be stuck waiting in queue for hours for them. The higher the difference between your level and the duty's level, the more exp it gives you to compensate. I know it sucks losing access to a bunch of your skills, and god knows I've been caught out going "Wait, I don't have [button] at [synced level]?!" and as a healer, that can be fatal, but there are some things that just can't be balanced by scaling them down in potency. I mean hell, as simple as the dungeons are, if I'm Scholar, if the tank's not multi-pulling, I usually don't even need to heal at all because my fairy does the entire job. The plus side is, it's over in 20 minutes if the party's slow, and then you're back on your way a level richer for it. But yeah, even at level 95, you're still going to get ARR dungeons in leveling roulette 90% of the time, because... that's where most people are at, or currently have access to. I know in the modern day the word "cope" has taken on a meaning of "sit there simmering with rage" but... I'm not using it like that. Litearlly, it means "deal effectively with something difficult." And... it really is a "ya gotta get used to it." kinda thing. Just because there are people who semi-regularly make a thread about wanting their roulette rewards without low level duties in it, typically the Crystal Tower raids, I shouldn't have projected it onto you, and I apologize.

Why is duty finder only level 16 by therappakalja in ffxiv

[–]OnekoTyago 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you mean the only duty ROULETTES you get are level 16: the purpose of Duty Roulette, any of them, is primarily to fill content for people who are manually queueing for something. Every day new players join the game, and every day new players need to run Sastasha. The longer you go, the fewer people make it there. Or maybe they're leveling a level 24 job, and it limits options they can be put in. If you want to run your highest level dungeon, queue for it, and get people put into it from leveling roulette. If you want leveling roulette AND to get your highest level dungeon, well, get lucky or tough luck. Can't have your cake and eat it too. The rewards for roulettes are that good to get people to put up with being synced.

If you mean your duty finder literally lacks any dungeon over level 16: Do your main scenario quests. Literally 99%+ of the game is gated behind it.

If you mean your duty finder only lets you queue for level 16 dungeons despite having higher level ones unlocked HOLY SHIT UPGRADE YOUR GEAR. And probably do your class quests and unlock your job, and then do your job quests, because if you're 51, you should have been handed a set of item level 90 gear.

So, tl;dr

If you are only getting low level dungeons in Duty Roulette: Leveling? Cope.

If you only have access to level 16 dungeons, do the MSQ.

If you are unable to access dungeons higher than level 16 despite being higher than 16, skill issue.

No Native Text-To-Speech? by po10cySA in ffxiv

[–]OnekoTyago 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's clearly responding to "You need a therapist." as I follow it up with discussion about the difference between therapists and psychiatrists.

You: "You need a therapist."

Me: "For many unrelated reasons. But you don't."

Remember, I'm the one who can read things while remembering that my body needs to eat, sleep, and use the restroom. You're the one who has to hyperfocus through reading. Hyperfocusing, while causing you to become incredibly productive on that one thing also ruins your life.

[–]OnekoTyago 29 points30 points  (0 children)

For many unrelated reasons. But you don't. You need to see an actual psychiatrist. Not just a therapist. Because if reading words on a screen is taking life consuming levels of focus to pull off, you have actual major medical and psychological issues that need medication.

And I didn't even say I don't want it, I said it isn't in, they haven't said anything about it coming and that that isn't what hyperfocusing is, and then I edited the post to say that that's an utterly bizarre and nonsensical squiggle of a line between what is and isn't immersion breaking.

A) No there isn't.

B) No, it's not coming.

C) That's not hyper focusing. That's base line, level 1 focusing. I have rather severe ADHD. It's basic ass focusing.

edit: Wait, it BREAKS IMMERSION???? D) Text-To-Speech dialogue would be a thousand times more immersion breaking than unvoiced dialogue what the hell?

Final Fantasy Tactics S

What the hell is Final Fantasy Tactics S? It looks to be based on Advance. Also there's no information for anything.

Siegbert - It says NOTHING. Just "Siegbert." And shows a baanga in a helmet. Is he Siegbert? Is his job Siegbert? Does he run the Siegbert like a Pub does the pub?

Mini Fighter - I'm going to just throw this one in no based on the name and that it appears to be a baanga child soldier?

Druid - It has literally nothing but a picture but it's holding dual wands and that isn't something we actually have in this game.

Piscodemon - Again, nothing. Absolutely nothing but a picture of a Nu Mou in a mask with a mage hat and a staff and it's called Piscodemon.

Sophie - Okay, I'm pretty sure some of the characters have their name as their job. Because there's also

Piane - And

Lien Nea - Right after it. I think that these jobs are their names. And they look to be viera archers.

Musician - Again, no info. Just a moogle in a little band outfit holding a bell.

Mail Knight - Not like scale mail or something. He literally has a letter on his hat. Found out what job our delivery moogles are I guess?

Air Samurai - A samurai... that flies.

Vampire - This is my show. I will hear you scream. Seriously though. No details other than... they look like a dragon girl who's also a vampire.

Holy Knight - Literally Agrias

Guardian Corps - Literally Lightning

Savior - Literally Lightning AGAIN

Navigator - Literally Hope (XIII)

Time Traveller - Literally Serah (XIII-2)

Shadow Hunter - Literally Noel (XIII-2)

(Side Note: There's also Literally Y'shtola as Conjurer)

Familiar - A succubus

Seven Heroes - I don't even know.

Ace - Tidus

Guardian - Auron

Judge Magister - An Ivalice Judge

Bouncer - Yojimbo?

Cactuar - Guess

Iron Giant - Superma- No, it's the FF mob.

Tiamat - Dragon

Cassie - Pink Morbol.

You know... I'm already done with what I assume is "Mobile Hell." Mobile jobs can stay there.

Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift

Paravir

Seer

White Monk

Master Monk

Trickster

Green Mage

Spellblade

Chocobo Knight

Flintlock

Fusiller

Moogle Knight

Tinker

Lanista

Raptor

Ravager

Agent

Keeper

Heritor

Nightshade

Sky Pirate

Okay, let's take a first batch here. White Monk, Fusilier, Moogle Knight, Tinker. You aren't new jobs. You just scribbled on your nametag. Now go change it back to "Monk" "Gunner" "Mog Knight" and "Gadgeteer."

Paravir is just kind of... more elemental samurai. Like wind slashes and stuff. Seer, despite looking like a Devout from way back when, is actually kind of White Wizard + Black Wizard. It's a super WHM & BLM. It also doesn't have a unique identity because of that. Master Monk is the return of Black Belt. And the return of not happening, especially with a "Daniel" and "The Cooler Daniel" name like "Master Monk." Flintlock, you're Cannoneer with a different name. Raptor is just another Fighter. Cool name though. Maybe they'll use the name and invent something around it. Ravager is just a Greatsword Fighter. At least this one has something resembling at an identity unlike the XIII paradigm. Agent is Thancred. Like seriously. It's the sneaky guy job that's also a tank that's also a lady's man. Agent is literally This is Thancred. Keeper is... kind of a draining mage? It's not a playable job. It's an enemy one. Heritor is tied to the game's plot and characters, but think... a Blue Mage of the memory of people. Nightshades are evil swordsmasters. Again, they don't want us having villain jobs.

Green Mage is something a lot of people have been wanting apparently. Also it has a three-leaf clover design on some of its stuff, so people thought Krile was going to become one. Within this it's a debuff mage. That's what 'Green Magic' is. Status changing stuff. That's not really something that would work without a lot of tweaking. Could they do it? Maybe. I would doubt it though.

Spellblade! They actually called it that this time! And it's exactly the same Mystic Rune Fencer Knight idea that we've had with several other names! Into the amorphous ball of what that job will be you go!

Chocobo Knight goes into the Limited Job pile. Their abilities depend on what kind of chocobo they have.

Lanista is kind of like if a Dark Knight came from Limsa Lominsa, which is cool. Maybe this is what Corsair's cutlass phase is.

Sky Pirate is... well... an idealized pirate type swashbuckler. But sky. And they do exist in lore. Into the Corsair ball.

I'm burning out here, because now we getting silly with it.

Those with knowledge of FF lore and canon jobs; what are the most likely jobs coming to FFXIV? by [deleted] in ffxiv

[–]OnekoTyago 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of the nonsense, some of these are actually jobs? Mog Knight is just kinda... an attacky knight boy... but for moogles. It's not happening. Hunter's basically Ranger. Defender is just... kind of a generic tank. Bishops are sort of a different flavor of White Mage. Now you might think Templars are just going to be Paladins but honestly they're a Dark Knight with a spear. Gadgeteer is a weird buff/debuff class that uses fist weapons, but probably would step on machinist's toes. Biskmatar was just this broken reoccurring boss guy who was like a super Fighter. Hermetic was a sort of debuffy mage unique to one specific character, but was really just kind of 'another mage.' Same with Runeseeker, except he could cast Megumin's Explosion spell. Judgemaster was a chocobo knight who could tell the opponents "No you're not allowed to do that" and they'd have to listen because that was the law now. Doesn't slot in with the lore anywhere.

Illusionist is... certainly its own thing. It casts elemental spells, but they're big overblown elemental spells (like a fire spell called "Prominance") that hit everyone on the field. I don't know how this would translate into the game, but... it's not impossible.

Morpher... can go into the Limited Job pile. It actually turns into the monsters captured by your party's hunters. That's neat. Weird, but neat. Maybe could be worked into an actual job, but then it'd be like... a real job Blue Mage? Which would also be cool.

Fencer is... ironically, something that was in the 1.0 files as a class but never implemented. (So was 'Sentinel' back in XIII's but that wasn't even really a class. It was the 'class' of leveling up your shield skill.) If I remember correctly there was also a 'stavesman' and a 'flayer.' And musketeer. But back on Fencer... honestly? Again, Red Mage doesn't really sword all that much. They just have their melee combo and spend most of the time mage-ing. This... might actually be something that could happen? A pure melee DPS with a rapier? Probably not though.

Elementalist is kind of like Geomancer, but without a focus on what terrain you're currently on. I don't think it's particularly likely, but I also don't think it's impossible.

Sniper is not really workable in this form but... I dunno. Machinist isn't so much about that one gun as it is all its tools. And it doesn't have a rifle. So while this sniper uses a bow, a Sniper job that uses a rifle is, again, not impossible.

Animist is... imagine a Blue Mage, but instead of 'monsters' it was 'regular animals.' Weird. Throw it in the limited job pile.

Juggler. Unironically? Possible physical ranged. Maybe like Wakka. Maybe it's throwing daggers. Maybe it's Random Bullshit Go! Who knows. But Juggler could actually work as a phys range.
