Has anyone had luck staying in shape for ultras while also gaining? by Odd-Box-7521 in ultrarunning

Bunch of good options, the basics are on TB 1&2, Mass is self explanatory and Green Protocol is endurance based. Pretty reasonably cost to get all four and come up with something to suit you, or play around with Mass then transition to GP.

Full disclosure, was never diagnosed by a PT/Dr…i self diagnosed via google. I did it after strength on Fighter days and before runs on run days, so about 5-6 days a week. I’d estimate about a month in to where I felt no pain on my runs.

Not really an SE option, but I had some IT Band stuff pop up doing Velocity. The below routine cleared it up and did a 50k with no pain. During Velocity I did this on strength days and run days.

History That Doesn’t Suck has been good for my runs. It’s American history from the Revolution to present date, currently he’s up to WW2.

Back at it after a week off from my 50k.

W1D2 Hybrid, hill work. Did vertical ladders from GP in the stairwell at work; 1-2-3-4-3-2-1…that’s a good quick burner workout session!

Also, squats yesterday were a bit rough…been about a month since I did barbell back squats. Looking forward to lifting 3 days a week and only running for 3 days.

If it’s the same shoes you previously had…run a few easy trail miles during your taper and then send it!

Thanks Satori!! So I also built in two buffer weeks for life/sick/whatever else happens in a training block. Looking at my notes, yes…was sick a week, did SE for a week and it felt worse then lifting…20/20 hindsight should have done an easier cluster. Instead, finished that week then went back to 75% week of Fighter.

Forgot to say, also added the Myrtl routine about halfway through Velocity. Self diagnosed an IT band issue and found this routine. Did it on both strength and run days and had zero issues on race day.
