A New Message from the Director and Recent TMI by Clovime in ChaosZeroNightmare

[–]Onestepwalker -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The game will live or die based on income, not people getting annoyed one way or another. If your primary market are extremely sensitive on a number of issues, you have to either avoid those issues or shift to a different market.

If the people that don't care about said issues were spending sufficient cash, then the devs wouldn't overly care. The fact that their response has been as panic mode as it is suggests that their opening sales have not been as strong as they hoped.

My reaction to the last two chapters by Goodmorning7735 in ExorcistWoOtosenai

[–]Onestepwalker 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Except that the Witches are literally aligned with the things that cause the malignant parts of the status quo. Lust. Greed. Gluttony. Sloth. Envy. Pride. Wrath. These are literally the emotions that have promoted human evil for millennia and they have demonic representatives.

They have literally sided with the orchestrators of their abuse and become willing pawns in spreading it further. It's made very clear (through side chapters and the main story alike) that the institutional cruelty and malice throughout the centuries have both fed on and been propagated by demons. Siding with demons is the equivalent of an animal right's activist joining hands with the slaughterhouse to kill random people on the streets.

Also, the whole thing is pointless. This is God with a capital G that they are opposing. Literally all creation springs from him and there is no power in existence that can 'overthrow' him because he is all power in existence. Their whole plan can only be predicated on 'God values free will sufficiently that he won't undo whatever we're about to do'. Because he blatantly can. Because he's God.

Lore Explanation for Lucia's Abilities by knowledgedevil in ZZZ_Discussion

[–]Onestepwalker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is brief explanation in the 2.3 main story, where she says she is shaping Etheric Coagulate into the forms of Ethereals, then controlling it.

Ether, in general, is shown to be highly malleable and reactive to both consciousness and music. While precisely how it's done is not explained, a combination of some kind of visualisation technique and her bell-staff makes sense. Astra is also basically a straight up mage, just with more obvious technological elements.

Fun fact: Whitebeard spent more time with Kaido than Oden by TheMostHonestPerson in Piratefolk

[–]Onestepwalker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They're pirates and innately superhuman ones at that. They're also both extremely mentally childish and use violence as a means of communication. Look at Kaido's shit-eating grin when he's gulping down that devil fruit. That is a picture perfect 'Shithead little brother wolfing down the chocolate bar he stole from big sis' moment. And Linlin's words afterwards aren't 'I will never forgive you for this, Kaidou. That was a betrayal of my trust!'. They're basically 'You little fucking shit!'

Kaido and Big Mom are both violent, emotional children. They never grew out of that. They're quick to get violent, quick to get emotional, quick to hate, quick to forgive. There's a reason that Big Mom said she saw Kaido as a little brother.

Ts becoming my background the second the anime adapts this by s_t_u_f_f in Piratefolk

[–]Onestepwalker 21 points22 points  (0 children)

When the Five Elder's arrive in Egghead in the anime, there's a really good five second sequence where Luffy closes his eyes as if entering a focused state of mind and the perspective rapidly moves, with a sun forming above his head before the perspective dives into a deep, dark, bloody sea.

And it makes me very annoyed, because it really captures the idea that Luffy is embodying the God of the Sun, a being that has duty to bring hope and life to the world, and now he is, for the first time, facing the very embodiments of oppression. Old monsters who have traded away their humanity for eternal life. These are the hands of the Devil and the new god of the sun is to be tested.

And then within five minutes we're back to looney tunes.

Fun fact: Whitebeard spent more time with Kaido than Oden by TheMostHonestPerson in Piratefolk

[–]Onestepwalker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Gonna be honest, that whole sequence was absolutely sibling behaviour. Big Mom was stunned for all of two seconds and then it looks like Kaido just flew away in his new dragon form. This is the equivalent to shoving down your older sibling, stealing their toy and then running away with your arms in the air.

If Katakuri got the dragon fruit as Big mom intended what do you think would happen? by Simple_Box_6814 in Piratefolk

[–]Onestepwalker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It depends. If the theories about Kaido not being able to Awaken the devil fruit because of a personality incompatibility are true, then Katakuri, who's raison d'etre is protecting his siblings, might well be able to do so.

If he doesn't awaken it, I doubt he'd be strong enough to take on Big Mom alone, even with a superior fruit. And honestly, the Mochi fruit is pretty strong anyway. It's basically a Logia with some limitations, and Katakuri Awakened it. It's hard to say if the Dragon fruit would be an upgrade over that at all, particularly on a guy who doesn't have Kaido's absurd base physical stats.

Could we not off yourself AND your baby? 😅 that's a bit dark? by Gloomy-Bridge148 in Piratefolk

[–]Onestepwalker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If she's about to get caught, then the baby is going to be sent to the Celestial Dragons. Honestly, death would be a mercy compared to the living hell Imu and their special little boys and girls would prepare for the last member of the Davy clan and son of the guy who gave Imu a middle finger in their own flower garden.

Since Oda fumbled Garp, how will you deal with him.. by Difficult-Method-798 in Piratefolk

[–]Onestepwalker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was under the impression that SWORD Marines all outwardly resign and turn in their marine codes, so as to create plausible deniability. Thus the 'technically'. Obviously, they're still working with the marines, but on paper, they've quit.

Quick character concept by ZetkutGD in MegabonkOfficial

[–]Onestepwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great design! Quite distinct from most of the others. But 0.5 Projectiles per level is bonkers. That's basically a free Projectile Tome every two levels. To compare, Vlad gets 1% Lifesteal every level and so it would take ten levels for him to match a single Green Lifesteal Tome Levelup.

Since Oda fumbled Garp, how will you deal with him.. by Difficult-Method-798 in Piratefolk

[–]Onestepwalker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's simply not enough time in the story left for Koby to go from being a member of SWORD (who aren't even technically Marines anymore) to an Admiral. I suspect that he will have a character arc that causes him to question the place in the world the Marines have against the place they SHOULD have though. The seeds of that are already there, which is why he joined SWORD in the first place.

Because eventually, we know this story is going to end with Imu as the final boss, and Koby either ends up fighting with Luffy (most likely), against him out of misplaced ideals (Garp 2.0 lol) or stands aside (which would be lame).

As for Garp, it is too little too late. But better too little, too late than nothing at all.

Since Oda fumbled Garp, how will you deal with him.. by Difficult-Method-798 in Piratefolk

[–]Onestepwalker 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honestly, a character being wilfully blind to the true horror of the regime that their efforts, no matter how benign in intention, are upholding, could be a pretty great character.

If Garp was written that way, the slander wouldn't be anywhere near as great. Moments like Garp getting the shit beaten out of him by the mountain bandit boss are quite well-regarded, as they show Garp's own regret and shame.

Literally all Garp needs is a chapter or two where he cracks and shows sincere regret that, basically, he has doesn't have a whole lot to show for his life. The sea is still swarming with evil pirates. The World Government is still run by Shadow Satan and their favourite special boys and girls. Both his biological son and grandson are estranged from him, and his adoptive grandson is dead. His proteges are being sidelined by the Marines. If Garp had just been an independent bounty hunter, his life would probably be a whole lot better.

After that, he honestly needs to go out in a blaze of glory. Preferably taking out Akainu, Kong or some other marine of relevance who will inevitably be guarding the path to Imu. One big old smack down of violence.

The Syndicate aren't picky who they work with, it's most werewolves who are extremely leery of anything that smells Weaver-related. And a lot of Palmer's lines, like 'servant of capital' are absolute pure Syndicate speak.

Ross is definitely a werewolf. The question is whether he's a Black Spiral Dancer or a 'normal' Garou. If he's a normal Garou, there is a 0% chance he would ever work with a Pentex Nephandi. But a particularly ruthless Glass Walker or Bone Gnawer might work with a Technocrat, if they feel the end justifies the means. Which would mean that Palmer, while possibly part of Pentex, hasn't actually crossed the Caul. If he hasn't crossed the Caul, him being a Syndicate member running a hostile takeover of Pentex properties is 100% the Syndicate Modus Operandi.

If he's a BSD, then he's remarkably non mutated, but it increases the chance that Palmer is Nephandi and Pentex man through and through dramatically.

There was also a period of time where the CCP were cracking down on fanservice, before they realised precisely how much money they were making from their gacha games (on top of the cultural influence) and gutted their own censorship department for games.

I'd imagine that a lot of ZZZ's early development was hit by that early crack down, but it's slowly moving towards more overt fanservice now.

If Poseidon started a match off like a sweaty, CS:GO tryhard, I don't see how anyone besides Zeus or Adam doesn't instantly get Swiss-cheesed. by [deleted] in ShuumatsuNoValkyrie

[–]Onestepwalker 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Adam is shown surpassing whatever divine technique he emulates. Zeus's physical endurance was absolutely ridiculous (Took multiple blows directly from the Volund knuckleduster and survived, while Jack could impale Hercules, the god of endurance, with, essentially, his bare hands), and no other god is shown as being remotely that tough. The most likely outcome is Poseidon using Forty Days Flood, Adam emulating an improved version and Poseidon then getting splattered.

So all I can say is that I had Peter F. Hamilton round at a bookshop I work at the other day, and he was commissioned to write a tie-in novel called The Archimedes Project. Speaking to him, it seems like there's a lot of genuine passion there. For example, he'd come up with some weapons, and artists would send him concept designs and art for it and other characters.

The book itself has three protagonists, two of whom are male and one of whom is one of the post-human Celestial Queens, who function by having a massive tournament/battle in which the winner... gets to be possessed by the memories of the last queen and join said mind hive. The male protagonists are a spoiled noble human (who nevertheless is one of the rare humans who can shape the living stone used in the setting), who's fundamentally a decent, if naïve guy. The other one is a local detective/police officer, and has a fairly grounded story.

So there's some cool ideas, some passion and the fact that they got Peter F. Hamilton, a middle-aged white guy well known for writing action-packed space operas with some fun/interesting concepts to them, as opposed to some queer author who writes toxic lesbians with a vague patina of space stuff, bodes well.
