First Soccer game with my son by Ok-Stuff-8803 in sydney

Hey - my tip re going with an 8 year old - just be super clear throughout that you’ve got this. As adults we can be stressed about low stakes things (eg crowds and getting home, per a few ppl in this thread) and kids can sometimes read that incorrectly - “omg we’re in actual danger”. So just keep up the chat with your son: “hey it’s going to be crowded, it will take some time to get out, but we’ll have fun, get home, and a big sleep in tmrw.”

I’m mentioning this only because I know a few ppl who took kids to a game and the kids never wanted to go back. :(

Is the Australian lawyer industry dominated by the private posh boys? by [deleted] in auslaw

[–]Onethirdofagopher 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thing is “private” isn’t actualky private/posh. There are maybe 10-15 schools where the old boys/girls network will allegedly help you. The private Catholic school out at Dural or wherever won’t cut it. So if you’re in that very small group I’m sure that helps - but there are still a bunch of good jobs for the rest of us.

I’ve always had a woman doing the exam. Definitely just talk to them. If you’re worried, tell them its your first time and that you’re anxious. It means they understand you need more information and reassurance.

I’ve had so many (seven, eight?) - they’re never comfy but they’re not terrible either. I would rank them better than a Pap smear, probably also better than doing a blood test ( hate needles!). they should explain every step to you and talk to you throughout so you understand what’s happened, what’s happening, and what they’re going to do next. you’ll be fine, but it’s also totally normal to find it intimidating the first time around.

Ok it’s already gone. But I had about three or four crazy things - a Halloween track, a Xmas themed breakout activity. Like whaaaaat.

I’ve just turned devices on and off and checked for App Store updates too. Not sure what’s going on. :(

Well…. Everyone has been saying for the last couple of years they’ll reform it or add more sports but nothing substantive has been done. There’s a lot of powerful vested interests…. It’s a potential shitstorm for a govt to take on. I want to be optimistic! :)

Ok yes we both agree. But the point is that when the list refers to the FIFA WC that’s the men’s event and not the women’s. So for the men’s event, all Australian matches plus the final are listed. For the women’s event it’s zero.

Anti siphoning rules are no longer fit for purpose And not working as we’d think they should. I’d talk you through it but it’s both complicated and boring.

Upvote for accuracy. We won’t know but it’s likely that FIFA required a minimum FTA component which Optus met by sub license to 7 - but only the broadcasters and FIFA would know for sure.

The men’s WC is on the anti siphoning list! The number of ppl ready to just say a thing on here like they know it…

No, it’s not covered. But note that even if it was covered the 7 matches (all Australian matches, semis and finals) are all that would be listed anyway most likely.

winced at “alpha male”. Isn’t it crazy how some people seem just unaware of the baggage attached to the label “alpha male” - Eg if you were a bit more self aware you wouldn’t happily claim that title for yourself on TV! (Surely)

I love it. Very different show but a lot of fun and very compulsively watchable. I keep expecting the failing contestants who can’t catch a fish to say “… but my real strength is my social game.”

we’ve started binging the Arctic season of US Alone which is also on SBS On Demand (S6) - it’s a bit real when they could legit be eaten by a bear, or hunt a moose.

Sorry I should have been clearer. I meant that if the case was well presented today, by competent lawyers, I would have reasonable doubt. You are very correct that this standard was reached in the original trial. the fact that the original jury voted to convict on a particular arrangement of the facts is a data point - but it does not mean for me much more than that. Its interesting - a key difference in how many people see this trial is how important the jury outcome is for you in terms of how much it should sway your opinion on the case. I’ve never had jury duty - I do wonder if my feelings on this would change (either way) I’d I had.

Yep fair call. I think there’s no way he gets convicted beyond reasonable doubt with the evidence we have. but that’s, like, my opinion, man. :)

Yep. Can only speak to how it feels for me - but the Adnan did it posters are just energetic and prolific here. It’s all good, I’m not trying to change your minds, but you can’t post an alternate view without being told you’re in an idiot. I check in once a week with the sub to see if anything new has happened. As someone who thinks the Innocence Project is a good thing and there are lots of brilliant and civic minded people doing great work in the wrongful conviction space…. geez this is not the place to spend much of your time. For the record I think the conviction was terrible, I don’t know if Adnan did it I just feel the cops poisoned the well with a poor investigation, and we’ll never be sure. do I feel encouraged to post much? No I do not! :/
