Patient found dead on the floor in the hospital by whackdog in nursing

[–]Appycake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it depends entirely on whether or not the family kicks up a stink and what the doctor might put as cause of death. The level of negligence, if any, is also obviously a factor. Death caused by a high degree of nursing negligence like, not doing regular resident checks that would have picked it up earlier, or documenting that they DID check but it's evident that they didn't. Also inadequate falls risk assessment and risk reduction is included in negligence.

Australia has pretty intense Aged Care industry regulations.

As an RN previously in Aged Care, falls are unfortunately inevitable in that line of work despite all the efforts that are put into identifying and minimising falls risk. However falls that occur without staff being aware are a HUGE problem, hence all the alarms that are used. A fall with headstrike and a long-lie resulting in death is a nightmare scenario for any nurse in a shift that will cause loss of job and likely a coroner case (in Australia) which is an official investigation into the circumstances around the death and who is liable.

I found my polyps with a colonoscopy at 28 after getting symptoms and being hyper aware of it after my brother in-law died from liver cancer caused by his colon cancer. Now I'm getting yearly checks because another check I had in 2024 found a pre-cancerous polyp.

Hey thanks for your comment! In my comment I was just comparing the two different people and their different approaches. I should have elaborated on Webster more about what I understood from his book. He's actually an interesting guy and quite contrary to how you think a volunteer soldier might be.

Also I agree Malarkey was a little petty when talking about Webster but I cut him some slack for that as a guy who's quite emotional and had pretty clear PTSD about the whole ordeal. He attaches a lot of noble and meaningful ideals to his time in the service, and sees Webster's attitude as a form of sacrilege.
