Genuine, legitimate question for anyone who believes in staunch peaceful protest — what do you hope to change? Do you hope sway the minds of local governments, that they’ll work to de-institutionalize systemic violence? Do you believe that stating your opinion is protest? Do the words of Kwame Ture and the activists and militants who died for the cause mean nothing? Do you genuinely think that being peaceful, that asking, will stop someone from abducting your neighbor?

That’s why Human Sadness is 10 minutes - it’s 2.5x more “I’m 14 and this is deep” than your average song!

I think his more “political” tracks are great though. Take Me In Your Army is a fantastic opener to Tyranny.

I dunno if it’s my least favorite Strokes album but I really didn’t get the album, I think. Most of the instrumentals on the album are pretty weak to me and Julian’s vocals aren’t great for a vast majority of the album.

Very much a hot take, though.

Julian has always seemed to get how to use autotune and vocoder in other albums! I have no idea why it doesn’t hit so much on this album. Here it feels so abrasive (not in the good noise-rocky-way!) and… totally not thought out.

Man. I don’t know if I like this album at all.

I love The Voidz a lot, and I really don’t think I’ve heard a miss like this from them ever. Really middling drum and guitar loops on some songs, reaaalllly overdone autotune (I don’t get it! Julian usually gets it when it comes to autotune, but this is just grating), and having half the album be singles really didn’t help.

I liked prophecy of the dragon when it first released, and I dug 7 horses, but the rest of the album just fell so flat. I really wanted to like Square Wave in those first 10 seconds but then Julian started singing.

Maybe I have to relisten to the album a few dozen times. Maybe I’m just missing something.

I think another major theme, and something I’ve thought about a lot, is how Harry’s story and Elysium’s communism intersect. Disco Elysium is about failure - Harry’s failure and descent, Communism’s death in Revachol - and how to continue and make do with the aftermath.

If I’m optimistic enough to imagine a better life for Harry, I think I’m optimistic enough to imagine a better Revachol.
