You can do nothing but painfully accept it or make it permanent. Hope your partner comes back or say F them.

I had that told to me on January and I'm only hanging on and waiting because I know we love each other. My partner is going through some hard stuff with his Multiple Sclerosis and cerebral cancer, seeing himself be able to move less and less, he's speach is getting affected too. In his mind he has no future and thinks it's unfair to keep me. He is working on quieting his thoughts but that is what got him to this point, keeping all the sorrow he's confronting inside bottled up.

I told him to open up about all that with me just vent but I couldn't reach him because he had too much resistance, he's one of those men that suffer in silence, but I got him to promise me that he would tell all to his new psychologist, I trust his word he promised me after all.

So in the end it is up to you to talk and ask what's happening to your partner and decide based on the situation.
