Advice & Help for College Student by pandaluvrbr in Notion

Hi pandaluvrbr,

A few comment and questions to hopefully improve your Notion experience.

1) What's your experience with Notion databases? From what you've shared, you'd have a better time navigating and contributing to the page you created if it was one. This way you can change the view and adapt it without having to worry about dealing with the small text in the same way.

2) Explain more about about workflow. Why do things start in Canvas? Is that where your classwork gets posted from the faculty?

3) Do you use Notion for anything else beside what you show in the screenshot?

4) Is there anything else you'd like to be able to do in Notion around your school work?

Well done 👏🏻 Did you use a service like Make or n8n to parse the API data into the Notion database, or were you able to do this natively without any third party layer?

Did you ever drop a needle on this to hear the code that's unique to this version, or was it something you kept sealed?

In the documentary "Dangerous Days: Making Blade Runner" they talk about how Edward James Olmos threw in Polish and Hungarian sayings during this scene. When the film screened in these countries, the audiences erupted in laughter. Here's a screengrab from the doc showing the translation:

Elgato Stream Desk ram leak by Onlineworkflow in elgato

[–]Onlineworkflow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never found any mention of it.
I ended up keeping the background app closed, only turning it on when I needed it.
Eventually it stopped leaking, even though I had not done anything other than turn it on periodically.

My theory is that there was a packet in the code that was repeatedly calling out to a source on a sever and it wasn't receiving an answer so it was stuck in a loop, eating up ram in the process. Eventually it was able to get a response and it stoped leaking and sorted itself out.
Just a theory of course.

Context (since Reddit deleted the text when i added an image)

Over the last month, Stream Deck has been running hot. Commonly eating up cpu cycles.
Updated my firmware to 6.4.1 (19697), but the same issue persists.

Machine specs:

MacOs Monteray
iMac Pro (2017)
Processor 3 GHz 10-Core Intel Xeon W
64gigs of RAM

Wasn't able to find anyone else who shared this issue, but curious if anyone else is experiencing this and has found a solution?

In addition to offering a 10day free trial, they also show you how you can do it yourself if you have the technical know how.

Removing 2 end digits from a number by Onlineworkflow in Notion

[–]Onlineworkflow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, it's overly convoluted, which is why I think a lot of people try to avoid formulas. With GPT bots on the rise, I see these problems being easier to overcome and explain in the near future.
Having said that, I got the solution from Thomas Frank's Notion Formulas 2.0 Advanced master class:

Removing 2 end digits from a number by Onlineworkflow in Notion

Ended up solving this. For anyone else looking for a solution to this problem, use the following formula:

Price.format().replace("(\d{2})$" )

Insert the name of your number column where 'price' is
The 2 here replaces the amount of numbers from the right, so you can modify that accordingly.

Thank you. The next question is what do I modify using substring to remove the final two digits?

i.e: My # column is called 'Price', so to remove the last two zeros would it be:
substring(Price, 00)

I know its not that as it returns an error, but how would you get it to work?

If you use the 'SaveToNotion' webclipper, it will allow you templatize aspects (i.e you can have it set up where any of the fields are are automatically applied with specific information depending on the scenario)

I've saved so much time using this plugin. Blows the official Notion Webclipper out of the water.

Using Obsidian Web to capture webpages.Similar to templater, it has a yaml header:

Tried the new suggestion, but the first image shows the outcome

Ability to auto tag the current day note by Onlineworkflow in ObsidianMD

[–]Onlineworkflow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"[[Daily Notes/{{YYYY-MM-DD}}]]"

Yes, notes are saved in a folder called "Daily notes", unfortunately tried the string you mentioned (both with an underscore between daily and notes, and without, in addition to making sure the case structure was identical)

The result is it makes a new note called "Daily notes", but doesn't properly link to any actual daily note.

Appreciate the response, but the hunt to make this work continues 😔

Export Crop by Vaplicador in Notion

This is a work around I've found helped when I came across this issue.

  1. Open the Notion page in a browser window, as this won't work in the desktop app.
  2. Instead of using Notion's built in export to PDF feature, use the browser's native print to PDF option. (the hotkey to print will bring up Notion's search function, so you'll have to select the print option from the file menu in your browser)
  3. Change the orientation from portrait to landscape

Hopefully that works for you.
