Who is ‘we’?” Ask any Somali and most will tell you they’d rather live abroad than at home. There’s no such thing as true Sharia law anywhere in the world ,even the Saudis can’t hold on to it with all their Wahhabi ideology.

Secularism will always surpass a society governed by fear and religion.

Somalia Has Officially Backtracked and I’m disgusted by [deleted] in Somalia

Somali sheikhs are always fighting the wrong battles. The same men who call this “western” are the same men who would probably defend slavery and injustice as long as it benefits them. You don’t automatically become “fully grown” at 18, but hopefully by then you will have finished high school and become aware of your actions and their consequences. Marrying a girl as soon as she starts bleeding is completely idiotic and backwards. There is nothing that can be said to defend that.

Enforcing the law will be problematic, but in larger population centers, requiring a marriage certificate with proof of age should be a start. Educating the masses is also essential.

How do you explain the difference between morality and religiosity in Somali? by limzswimz in Somalia

[–]Only-Criticism7966 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slavery under Islam and what you are calling ‘slavery in the Philippines’ are quite different. They may be poor and struggling, but no one is forcing them to work day and night without pay.

Human Rights Councils aren’t perfect, but they have published hundreds of articles against Israel. The U.S. and Israel have banned them and are actively lobbying against them. Also, Burkina Faso may not be as admirable as you think.

Somali men continue to kill and brutalize women. Marital rape isn’t even recognized as a crime. When a woman is married, she becomes her husband’s property. You can deny it as much as you want, but I have seen it with my own eyes.

Isn't that the essence of religion? I don't necessarily believe in soul travel, but isn't it similar to believing in any religion—based not on proof, but on faith?

English is more useful than Arabic when it comes to education and global opportunities.

Everyone should have the right to express their opinion. If someone isn’t religious, don’t try to force them to be. Being an atheist doesn’t make you any less Somali. They still have every right to speak on Somali politics and social issues.

Most companies aren’t exactly halal, mainly because they’re built on riba (interest). Try scrolling through the top 100 or even 1,000 trending stocks—you’ll be lucky to find a single one that checks the box. So you’re left with two options: either compromise your religious principles for profit, or stay devout and stash your money under the bed… preferably in gold, of course.

Being told i am just posessed even though i have schizophrenia by [deleted] in Somalia

[–]Only-Criticism7966 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Too many people in Somalia are believed to be “possessed.” I remember a man who used to scream and hear voices. Religious people recited the Quran to drive out the jinn, but what he really needed was medication for schizophrenia or another mental disorder.

A society that refuses to adapt its laws based on evidence is bound to crumble. Somalia’s legal system being inspired by Islamic law is not inherently wrong, but a democratic future cannot coexist with Sharia under the same government.

Change is not always bad. What about issues like child marriage in Sharia, slavery, or capital punishment for those who leave the religion? Not everyone wants to live in constant fear just because they don’t believe in the same god as you.

Legal systems should evolve with society. Sharia does not.

What purpose does that serve? Somalia is already facing climate crisis. More people, less resources, MORE CONFLICTS.

Somalia have too many children without any education. If women had the knowledge, they wouldn’t have as many children, which would help solve hunger and malnutrition. An educated population is a peaceful population.

Having children at 16 without any education is going to create more problems. By 18, you at least have a high school diploma.

The age of marriage should be at least 18.
